About this property

Waterfront, pet friendly, cottage with the best view ever!

You will love our charming, clean 2 bedroom lakeside cottage, on the shores of Winnipesaukee, located in West Alton, NH has the best view on the lake! And is available to rent from June to mid-October. Pet-friendly fenced property. Non-barking, well-behaved dogs welcome upon approval at no extra charge. Ask about the discount for 2 weeks or longer during the Fall Foliage season.

Perfect size for a family with 2-4 kids or 1 or 2 couples. Maximum number of people on the property is 6.

From seniors to little kids this a great spot for all ages. Being lakeside on Winnipesaukee you will love relaxing by the lake and looking out at the view. You will enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water with a beautiful sandy bottom.

We provide 3 kayaks and 2 paddle boards for your use and the dock is available if you have a boat. (We can suggest boat rentals)

Built by my grandfather in 1926 we’ve modernized it over the years to be very comfortable and have the amenities we all require. Everyone who has ever visited comments on how country cozy and beautiful the cottage is and how unbelievable the view is!

Both the outdoor fireplace and the fire pit at the waters edge are available for your use in the evenings. Often you can hear the the call of the loons on the lake. It is so peaceful.

There is a hammock for a nap by day and to gaze at the stars by night.

The are 2 rocking chairs and several adirondack chairs to relax in on the dock while looking out at the lake, islands and the Ossipee Mountain Range.

Winnipesaukee is the perfect lake for boating. You can go to Wolfeboro for the biggest best ice cream cone ever, Alton Bay for a yummy lunch at Pops Clam Shack, visit the Weirs for arcades and more, and our favorite restaurant in Meredith for lunch is Town Docks where you can eat outside on a glorious day! All of these places and more are available by car as well.

There are lots of great restaurants… it’s just a 10 minute car ride to one of our favorites, Ellacoya, where they have daily specials and the food is always delicious.

If you like to cook at home it’s less than 15 minutes to Beans and Greens for fresh veggies. They even have pick your own flowers and fresh baked pie. (Blueberry is our favorite) Shaw’s and Hannaford are the closest grocery stores just a few minutes from Beans and Greens.

A favorite of many is to swim from our cottage to the “Point” (Smith’s Point) along the shoreline in the morning. Or go out for an early morning kayak to catch the sunrise.

Great outlet shopping is about 30 minutes away in Tilton. Terrific shopping for souvenirs and boutique clothes are in Gilford, Meredith, Wolfeboro and Laconia. Funspot is not far for arcades and bowling and there are several mini golf locations close by. There is a 3-ring binder at the cottage with info on area attractions, restaurants and more.

If relaxing at the most beautiful spot on Winni seems good to you we hope you’ll inquire for more info.

Well behaved dogs welcome with approval.

A Week to Relax -aaah!
It was like coming home and going away at the same time. Since it was our third stay at ‘our cottage,’ we settled in quickly. In some ways, though, it was very different. We weren’t able to bring up our boat this time. My husband the boater was not to be denied. He found the kayaks and found quiet and peaceful places to explore along the lakeside. I was able to ‘attend’ an important Zoom meeting sitting in an Adirondack chair on the dock. Best meeting ever! Using my iPhone, I was able to show the meeting attendees the little bit of heaven we have found in Alton Bay. Kathleen, Tom and Fitz.

Amazing Cottage with the BEST views of the Lake!!
My husband and our two pups spent a week at this amazing cottage right on Lake Winnipesaukee October 7-14. We were a tad bit early for full fall foliage, but we did do some drives up north so see the beauty of New Hampshire during Fall. This cottage is SUPER CLEAN , comfy beds and everything you could needs. Many great restaurants in the area- We loved Shibley's at the Pier and John's Roast Beef and Deli. Janet was very responsive and the whole experience was wonderful. Very quite in October on the lake, which we enjoyed ! A very special place to stay and we will return. I would highly recommend!

Never disappoints
We love staying at Janet and Don’s house. The beautiful view and access to the lake can’t be beat. The front room provides the million dollar view at all times of day. If you visit, make sure to keep an eye out for the hummingbirds! The neighbors are friendly and thoughtful too, so it’s always peaceful. Janet is very responsive throughout the process. Excited to stay again next year. Thank you for sharing your family’s home with us!

A Little Slice of Heaven
The view of the lake from anywhere on the property is spectacular! I’m not a morning person, but day after day the coppery sky at sunrise stopped me in my tracks! It is a quiet neighborhood where neighbors respect each other’s privacy, but are friendly upon meeting one another during the day. When questions arose, our owners were more than gracious and helpful when we reached out to them.

Engstrom-Stuga has been in our family since 1926. My grandfather immigrated from Sweden to the Boston area and wanted a red cottage on a lake like his family had in Sweden. He found this property and began building it himself. The cottage has so much history and we are so grateful to my grandfather, Herman Engstrom, for finding this piece of heaven on earth. "Stuga" means cottage in Swedish... thus the name -- Engstrom Stuga!

Why they chose this property

When you sit outside the cottage and look out on Lake Winnipesaukee you can’t help but relax and let the pressures of everyday life leave you.
Breathe in the fresh air.
Swim.
Float.
Nap.
Eat.
Read.
Repeat!

What makes this property unique

Our breathtaking view of the “Broads” across Lake Winnipesaukee make Engstrom Stuga the perfect vacation spot!
