Note: We have a flat rate per night for up to 8 guests and a $150 cleaning fee to cover the cost of preparing the cabin for the next guests.
Come get away from it all at the little slice of heaven that we have affectionately named Minnow Heights. The cabin was built in 2003 and has 2 bedrooms plus an open loft. The loft is accessed by a permanent ladder-style stair, which may not be accessible for everybody. Each room has a queen bed and there are two queen beds in the loft. The main living area has a twin sleeper sofa. There is a bathroom with a shower on the main level and a bathroom with a tub in the loft. The laundry room is located off of the kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked with cookware, bakeware, small appliances, and dishes and is open to the dining and living area. There is a whole-house water filtration and softener system and high-speed WiFi.
Howard Lake is a beautiful, quiet lake in the Chippewa National Forest with 19 ft water clarity, a maximum depth of 60 feet, 398 surface acres, and just under 7 miles of forested shoreline. The lake is long and narrow, which we love for kayaking . There is a private boat launch on the property that guests may use along with 2 adult kayaks, 2 youth kayaks, and a paddle boat. If you plan to bring a boat, please let us know when you make the reservation. In an effort to be respectful of neighbors and wildlife, we do not allow wake boats or jet skis. In an effort to preserve the integrity of the lake and avoid the spread of invasive species, we expect guests to follow DNR guidance: boats must be clean and dry for at least 5 days before being launched on the property. There are free decontamination stations with high pressure hot water that can be used to ensure boats are clean. The property is level to the lake and has 100 feet of lakeshore and beautiful southwest-facing views of undeveloped shoreline. We love to end the day sitting out by a cozy fire, watching the sunset and listening to the loon calls.
The cabin is located 10 minutes from Walker and 30 minutes from Park Rapids. Both have shopping, dining, golfing, etc. There is close access to the Paul Bunyan and Heartland trails. Walker is a gentle 7 mile bike ride from the trailhead. We think there is no better way to start the day than a morning hike along the Paul Bunyan trail. There is a basement accessed from the outside that guests may use to store toys and/or gear.
For a better sense of the area around the cabin, please watch the drone video footage. The cabin is 35 feet off of a dead-end gravel road and has neighbors on either side. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! We want to make sure the property is the right fit for your vacation.
We love it here, and we think you will too.
