About this property

Ranch Style Cabin on 20 Acres in the Beautiful Tunk Valley

Spectacular all round views from this ranch style cabin in the beautiful Tunk Valley -- a little known piece of rustic countryside bordering the Okanogan National Forest, northeast of Omak and near the small town of Riverside.

Enjoy nature from this luxury cabin and wrap-around porch. A birdwatcher's paradise the Tunk Valley also offers breathtaking views, hiking local forest trails, mountain biking the quiet country roads, fishing at Crawfish Lake, and wildlife viewing from the cabin, in the valley, and at the Tunk Valley Wildlife Area. It also offers just living with a frontier feel.

In summer the land is a sea of color from the grasses and wild flowers, and with the backdrop of mountains and dramatic skyscapes the cabin is a nature artists dream. An easel is provided in the main bedroom, inspiration is provided all around.

In winter the surrounding area offers cross-country and backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. The cabin is five miles from Crawfish Lake, which usually freezes hard enough to snowmobile, ski or skate on. Local skiing areas include Loup Loup Pass and Havillah, both about one hours drive away.

For those not wishing to drive the cabin sits on 20 acres of private land, where guests are free to wander. A walk around the perimeter is three quarters of a mile.

The cabin itself is at an elevation of around 3,000 feet, and stays a bit cooler than down in the valley. The main floor has a gorgeous living room with a gas cast iron stove for those cozy evenings. There is a large fully equipped kitchen and dining area, and a private master bedroom with bathroom. Upstairs it has two large bedrooms, and a full bathroom. A huge detached double garage is also available.

The cabin is approximately 14 miles from the historic country town of Riverside and the Okanogan River, nearby towns include Omak, Okanogan and Tonasket. The Many Lakes Recreational Area offers many summer activities for boaters and fishermen. Local events include the Omak Stampede and other county fairs. Easy day trips include the Tunk Valley Wildlife Area, the Stonerose Fossil beds, the state park and historical sites at Conconully, the sparkling and unspoilt Omak Lake, the ghost town of Molson, the Loomis National Forest, the Methow Valley, and the North Cascades National Park.

Beautiful and Quiet
Great property with 360-degree views. Very secluded - you can see one house on an adjoining property, but it's pretty far away. Nice wrap-around porch. Great place to unwind and get away from it all.

Serene isolated get away
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. Well maintained home with lots of collectibles, books, etc to discovery. Interesting location in an nice valley with cattle farming bordering the national forest (Yellowstone on a smaller scale comes to mind). Did a drive up to old fire lookout on top of Tunk mountain which was great as well!

About the host

Host profile image
I live and work in Seattle as a writer. My wife is a graphic designer, our three kids go to local elementary, middle and high schools. We have been customers of VRBO cabin owners across the West for many years, and decided this was a good way to occassionally rent out our own cabin. We use our cabin regularly as an escape from the big city. We love the space, the peace, and the great outdoors that the Okanogan has to offer.

Why they chose this property

Peace and tranquility. Wilderness views in all directions, and great access to the wild outdoors.

What makes this property unique

Great air quality. Early morning sunshine. Forests, rivers and lakes in several directions. Wildlife is around.
