About this property

Historic charm in St. Elmo at base of Lookout Mountain situated on over an acre

Step back in time into the historical Sissons House at the base of Lookout Mountain. This unique home built in 1884 sits in the most desirable location in St. Elmo surrounded by an acre of gorgeous landscaped grounds. Savor the fresh air off Lookout Mountain from the serene perch of the home's covered, wrap-around wooden front porch or sip your morning coffee in the more private garden patio. Recently updated with new decor and furnishings. Experience a true Chattanooga charmer.

Sissons House, conveniently located in the historic district of St. Elmo, is within walking distance of numerous restaurants and cafes, as well as the many activities on Lookout Mountain, including historical Point Park, Civil War battle sites, and scenic hiking trails. Downtown Chattanooga, with the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Bluff View Art District, Warehouse Row, Chattanooga Riverwalk, and more, is an easy, 10-minute drive away. It doesn't take long for visitors to discover why Chattanooga is affectionately called the "Scenic City."

Adventure enthusiasts and thrill seekers alike will find options aplenty in the Chattanooga area, whether rock climbing Cumberland Plateau and its Tennessee Wall, bouldering at Stone Fort, hang gliding with the Lookout Mountain Flight Park, or white water rafting on the nearby Ocoee River.

Within walking distance of Sissons House, downtown St. Elmo offers a number of eateries and bars, including The Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe, St. Elmo Deli & Grill, Sawasdee Thai Restaurant, Mojo Burrito, Clumpies Ice Cream Company, Plus Coffee, Mr. T's Pizza & Ice Cream, The Tap House and 1885 Grill.

Friends Vacay
This house is so beautiful. The owners have updated it yet kept the historical character. We met friends there for a few days in Chattanooga. We are from Indy and our friends from Atlanta. The house is so convenient located near Incline Railway, Rock City and Ruby Falls. St Elmo is a great location to stay. Not far at all from downtown. Great host who communicated throughout check in. Also met the cleaners who were so nicw

Tired Mamas Get Away
We absolutely LOVED this place. The house, the location, EVERYTHING. We spent our mornings in the kitchen nook chatting and sipping coffee. Our late afternoon gathering spot was outside by the fire. Late night chats were had in the parlor. We called for a ride into town and walked and ate until we could stand no more. We also enjoyed the short walk into town for a cup of coffee and a stretch of the legs. A definite re-do for us will be in the books.

Yet another perfect stay!
This was our second time in this lovely home, and there is no doubt that it will become a mainstay in our vacations. The house is exactly as pictured - meticulously clean with obvious loving attention to detail everywhere you look. We had the added bonus of enjoying the picturesque holiday decorations that made it so warm and cozy that we didn’t even want to leave the house most of the time! We went to a park and playground during our visit, but my toddler had more fun running around the expansive property and climbing up the tree deck. Just as the first time we stayed there, the owner was extremely communicative and went above and beyond. She offered us an early check-in, especially knowing I’m traveling with a little one, so that was much appreciated. We ended up having a car emergency towards the end of our stay, and so we extended a night and she made it an effortless process. I have stayed at a few other VRBOs during our various trips in different cities, but this is the only home where I have total peace of mind that I’m getting exactly what I booked - in aesthetics, cleanliness and hospitality. We’ll be back soon and as often as possible!

Delightful historic home
We had a wonderful 5 day getaway in Chattanooga with our three children, staying at the St. Elmo farmhouse. The property exceeded expectations--it matches the pictures and was comfortable and more convenient than we imagined for our planned adventures. We ate s'mores around the fire in the firepit and hiked Lookout Mountain to Ruby Falls.

I have a passion for travel, home renovation and decor. I love old historic homes and bringing them back to life with modern amenities while preserving their architectural heritage and charm. I have been married to my college sweetheart for 24 years. He shares my adoration of old homes. Together we have three children, our oldest graduating from high school this year, 2020. Hopefully, college will start in the Fall so he can pursue his dreams.

Why they chose this property

It was love at first sight with this home. It's a very special property with so much history. The previous owner lived there for over 35 years. The original owners from the late 1800's resided in the home for 55 years and were prominent members of the Chattanooga community.

What makes this property unique

Historic charm, vaulted ceilings, tastefully updated with modern amenities. The grounds are stunning in the Springtime. You are surrounded by over an acre of privacy and mature trees. You will be woken up in the morning by the birds singing.
