About this property

Alpenglow Cabin @ Keystone Retreat

Summary:
Alpenglow Cabin @ Keystone Retreat is an adorable nicely appointed tiny house located on the world famous Kenai River. This cabin is a part of our family legacy home site and has been professionally designed and built to exclusively enjoy the amazing beauty year round along with world-renowned fishing. For larger groups, we have 4 units available on property and an additional 2 units across the street.

The Kenai River is the most popular sport fishing destination in Alaska. Each year there are two runs each of king salmon, coho salmon, sockeye salmon, plus a run of pink salmon every other year. The world record king salmon, which weighed about 44 kg (97 lb), was caught in the Kenai River in 1985. The Kenai is also the home of trophy size rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Occasionally there will be reports of catching of "Steelhead"(Sea-run Trout). In recent years, the king salmon fishery has been closed or heavily restricted due to low returns of fish. The Coho salmon runs occur in early August and early October. The September run is favored by local anglers due to the larger size of the silver salmon. The sockeye salmon runs are in late-June and mid-July-August. Sockeyes are considered the premier salmon for eating, canning, and smoking.

Property amenities include:
Boat launch nearby
Access to private dock for relaxing and fishing.
Commercial fish packer
Freezers
Ice
Card operated laundry facility

The Space:
The Alpenglow is a beautifully organized tiny home that comes complete with heated floors in a european-style shower and toilet area. The on demand hot water heater means you never run out of water, and kitchenette has a gas stove, microwave and cooking utensils for your use. The loft sleeping area has a full size premium mattress and downstairs has a built-in Queen size "murphy" bed that closes up during the day to provide lots of space for activity on the main floor. A Smart Tv is available with access to free movies and news as well you can login using your Netflix or other On-demand services for viewing your favorite programs.

Guest Access:
There is free parking onsite as well as additional parking area across the street for guests or boat trailers. You will receive a unique code for logging into the keypad on your unit when you register. This code gives you access to the laundry, ice and fish packaging equipment located in separate building on the property.

The Neighborhood:
This cabin is a part of our larger family owned legacy property, we have personally owned and developed this property over the past 20 years. There is a newly upgraded boat landing up river approximately 100 yards along with two public river accesses on Keystone Drive that are within walking distance and complete with walk ways and fish cleaning tables.

The city of Soldotna is just 5 miles up the road which includes a Fred Meyer store along with many other services both for the sportsman and general shopping supplies.

Getting Around:
While we presume you'll be driving to our destination there are all means of commercial transportation including a commercial airport in Kenai 25 miles away. The best part is there are several airplane operators that can bring you to more remote settings for bear watching, fishing, and site seeing.

Wonderful Modern Contemporary Housing
Not many places I've visted in Alaska have a modern contemporary look and feel. This place does. It feels like the lower 48. That may or may not be your style, but if you enjoy those familiar comforts and experience. its a great place to stay. riverfront access, ice, cleaning station. friendly and welcoming hosts. modern conveniences such as digital/phone keys and communication, booking, etc. i hope to stay with them again.

Great Place
Very clean and beautiful. Location is great. Sandi and Mark are really great hosts. Great place for fishing or just hanging out at the fire pit. Would do it again for sure.

Perfect Alaskan Getaway
Traveling with our family of 4 (2 parents, 1 young adult and 1 teenager) we loved this place. It is beautifully located at the end of a quiet road on the Kenai River, 5 minutes from Soldotna and the nearest grocery store. If you like good design and clean facilities this is the place. We stayed in the Alpenglow Cabin with 2 very comfortable queen size beds. It was a little tight for 4 if you spend all your time inside. But we never did, there is too much to do in the area and the property is setup for outdoor enjoyment. On the property is a private dock on the Kenai, a fire pit, area for outdoor seating, a pavilion and an ice house for prepping your catch and cleaning laundry. Adjacent to the property is a public boat ramp and a little down the road is the public dock for fishing and bird/moose/bear watching. Soldotna is convenient to so many activities. We hiked and fished and hiked and fished with day trips to Homer, Kenai, Whittier and Seward and more hiking and fishing and a little shopping. Sandi and her husband Mark were so friendly and helpful with great recommendations and knowledge about the area. We could not have asked for a better host or a better experience. Our stay was more than we had hoped for and Sandi, Mark and Keystone Retreat made all the difference. We can't wait to come back.
