Minus 1 star - The property manager contacted us about 24 hours before checking in to let us know that the wi-fi extender just broke and the internet wasn't working properly. A back and forth ensued as to why we needed the internet, wouldn't our phones work instead, we could sit on the porch of the giant cabin next door to get the internet, or we could go across the lake to use the wifi at the resort across the street. Unacceptable. Eventually, an inconsequential refund was offered. A review posted in August (past my cancellation window) shows that they have been having internet trouble for a few months. If you need reliable internet and don't want to walk around in the rain to get it, look elsewhere.
Minus 1 star - The living room was clean. The bedroom was clean. The bathroom was clean. The kitchen seemed clean.....until I started to cook. A film of dust and a few dead gnats covered the exhaust hood. Human hair and crumbs were evident in the silverware drawer. The paper towel holder hasn't been cleaned in months. A few onion skins had dried and stuck fast to the base cabinet doors. The cleaning crew needs to deep clean anything under the countertop and out of sight. Also, I had to clean the windows at the front of the hideaway. I only cleaned 3 of the 5. Hopefully, the next guest doesn't need to clean the two I skipped.
Other things of note:
The Hideaway has the potential to be a retreat for relaxation and seclusion. But you should know that the owners of the property have a gargantuan cabin (not present in photos unless you know where to look) about an underhand toss away. Thankfully, they were not present during our stay. Also, there is a tiny shed, (not present in the photos) between the hideaway and the owner's cabin, that is under renovations at the moment. Both Saturday and Sunday someone (perhaps the property manager) was present on the property doing some type of work. Definitely ruins the feeling of privacy.
The massive lodge and boat rental across the lake is surprisingly well-lit at nighttime. The lights ruin any type of stargazing from the dock.
A few positive things: The bed was very comfortable. Most vacation rentals have beds that sag. This bed was pleasantly firm.
The sunset from the dock is beautiful. The best photo I took from our two-week trip was taken from the dock.
We had a canoe provided for us for a daily fee.
