About this property

Lawton Chiles Vintage Historic Cabin

My wife, Kitty and I inherited this wonderful land and have developed a very popular Organic Blueberry Orchard here. And we have lovingly renovated and restored the two cabins so that, like my Dad, you can enjoy the restorative features of this natural paradise. Natural wonders are present from beautiful lakes and creeks to groves of Live Oak and Long Leaf Pine uplands. Hiking and biking trails weave through the hundreds of acres here. Gopher tortoises, Fox Squirrels, Bobcats, Wild Turkey and Deer share the property along with a myriad of winged wonders like Hawks, Owls, Kites, and Great Blue Heron.
Even the drive in is tranquil through canopy roads and cathedral oaks, weaving through Red Hills Plantations. On site, you can fish and paddleboard the lake, ride bikes through miles of woods trails, hike, picnic by one of the lakes, and go organic blueberry or pear picking in season. We can arrange horses if you would enjoy riding while on the property.
Bradley Country Store is just a few miles away. A country store in business for over 100 years, it’s on the National Historic Register and a great place to get one of their famous Sausage Dogs.
The Senator is one story with fireplace and 2 BR, one custom bath. We have two cabins available now. Both are 2BR, 1 bath. They are juxtaposed and both view the lake with shared fire pit between. Both are one of a kind vintage with AC, Wi-Fi, smart TV, etc.

A diamond in the rough
It’s hard to put into words what we experienced in the 1827 cabins. Bud and Kitty were spectacular hosts and I can’t say enough for the cabins and all the love that they have poured into renovating them while not removing their ample charm and history. From the logs and chinking, beams and creaky flooring, the scenic setting, the cabins and surrounding property could not help but to speak directly to your heart! It was hot but we still were drawn to sit outside in the weathered rockers, under the tin roofs and ceiling fans while sipping our beverages. We spent lots of time with the lizards, squirrels, gopher tortoises, blue herons and of course listening to the cicadas. The claw foot tub was perfect for a temped bath at the end of the hottest day. The simple kitchen setup was just enough for us to make some yummy meals and then sit at the weathered table that was stained with cup rings and wear and the old chairs , including one with Gov. Lawton Chiles seal on it. I wish this space could have spoke. I loved the minimalism of this adventure. It made you realize just how much we take for granted and do not really need. It takes you right back to when things were not so fast paced. We would love to take a trip back in the spring as the property boasts a large organic blueberry and pear orchard. We highly recommend taking a trip to and staying at this gem! Not one single regret on our part!

Amazing!
This place was a great find! We came up to Tallahassee for the FSU graduation and needed a hotel that didn’t cost a small fortune and cannot believe we found this place. It’s so lovely. We hiked, peddle boat, caught fireflies and enjoyed every minute. Wi-Fi was a little spotty but apparently we needed to reset the modem. I hope we can go back for a longer stay next time. Love the history and property! Thank you!

Peace, tranquility, nature, history and all its beauty that Governor Chiles fell in love with.
Historic cabins rustic but with just enough modern convenience a great location too. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to spend quality time with friends are family to a stay at this beautiful one of a kind property. Fire pit with roasted marshmallows to the nature trails thru out the property its what makes the Tallahassee Red Hills area famous. Thank you Bud and Kitty for the privilege to enjoy your fathers special place.

Jubilee Orchards and Plantation- Who we are

The Chiles are a well -known and respected Florida Family- Representing Six Generations of Florida leadership in government and community service, food excellence, and environmental stewardship.

Jubilee Orchards, a Red Hills pristine plantation, has a storied legacy deeply rooted in the State of Florida. Our farm was founded by former US Senator and Florida Governor ‘Walking Lawton’ Chiles.
Continuing his love of the land and environmental passion, our blueberry orchards are recognized by statewide farm organizations for outstanding environmental stewardship. It's so encouraging to us to hear so many fond reminiscences of his leadership made by the people who visit our orchards. My Brother Ed Chiles has created a premier group of restaurants all along the West Coast of Florida. He runs two farms featuring organic and sustainable agricultural practices. And he is a regional leader in eco-agricultural programs that impact the entire state.
From the outset, we desired to share Jubilee with the community. This conviction led us to develop orchards. And thoughtful research directed us to grow blueberries. We also strongly considered olive orchards and some other fruits. The amazing health, nutrition, taste and marketability of blueberries won us over.

The Jubilee Experience has become a tradition in North Florida. Thousands of people of all ages flock to our orchards each spring to enjoy picking our fruit and experiencing our natural wonders- vintage cabins to rent, lakes and creeks, serene hikes through pristine long leaf pine and live oak forests.

Why they chose this property

Jubilee is an escape from the stress and worries of everyday life into a tranquil natural wonder teeming with beautiful vistas, organic berry orchards, diverse bird and wildlife. Relax in our vintage cabins, explore miles of hiking and biking trails, enjoy cocktails on the dock of the lake, picnic by the woods pond. Drink in the relaxing qualities of this wonderfiul Red Hills Plantation.

What makes this property unique

Deeply rooted in Florida's political and Red Hills history, Jubilee is a marque example of biodiversity, sustainability in organic agricultural practices, and careful stewardship of the land and the environment. You will experience this as you hike through Special Growth Long Leaf Pine Forests, Live Oak Groves, and meadows. And as you experince our pristine lakes, creeks and wetlands. And as you locate the varied bird and wildlife including abundant gopher tortoises, Fox Squirrels, Foxes, and Turkey and Deer. As well as Great Blue Herons, Kites, Red Headed woodpeckers, Owls and an amazing array of. birdlife.
