Description of the house itself was pretty accurate. Big, beautiful home and shaded, protected location. Lots of cabinets and closets inside.
Communication before Check In didn’t happen, but we were able to reach the owner about 30 minutes after 4 and get in the home. House needs minor attention- freezer and water line on the refrigerator was broken (owner provided a bag of ice, which was nice) and mildew has formed under caulk in the showers (which is fairly common in vacation rentals.) House was veery clean otherwise. Outside needs some minor repairs/ touch ups, but in good shape.
We’re a pretty chill group and family, so we don’t get bothered by much. The following would really irk more picky renters:
The home is in the direct flight path of the HH commercial airport. Planes come and go all day and sometime low enough to rattle the home- which can be nerve wracking at first, but after a while you don’t notice as much.
There is no easy access (walking or otherwise) to the beach and the only option is to drive and park. Fish Haul Beach was the closest option and parking was free with nice facilities, but the sand beach itself is very narrow and at low tide becomes a 100 yard mud flat. It’s a beautiful example of the low country ecosystem, however, not great for swimming. Not a lot of people there, which is great.
We opted to go to Driessen Beach, which was fantastic; $1 an hour shaded parking and a perfect beach. Loads of food/shopping nearby afforded a very nice vacation.
