About this property

Kathleen's Cottage: Mountaintop home w/ 2 Fireplaces, Rec Room, & Views!

Enjoy views of the Blue Ridge Parkway from Kathleen's Cottage in the mountains. Newly renovated and lovingly restored, this 4-bedroom, 2-bath home near Boone feels fresh and warm at the same time. Just steps to the Grandview Overlook (elevation 3,240 feet), the home offers so many amenities (like 2 wood-burning fireplaces!), you may not be able to draw yourself away to the enjoy all the area has to offer.

Kathleen's Cottage sits atop a hill overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway, just above the Grandview Overlook at 3,240 feet elevation. A wrap-around deck maximizes the view, as well as the placement of the outdoor firepit for cool evening enjoyment.

Inside is a cozy living room with a huge tv over the white brick, wood-burning fireplace. Large swivel recliners maximize enjoyment, with full Wi-Fi throughout the house, and high-speed internet access for all your devices.

The expandable dining table and huge kitchen with farmhouse sink, Kuerig coffee maker, and all-new fixins accommodate the singular traveler as well as the multi-family gathering. Double doors open to a large brick balcony/patio to a wooded back view.

The master bedroom overlooks the deck with BR Parkway views. The room's painted brick walls and plush comforters hearken back in time and invite relaxation. A barn door opens to the completely new and beautiful bathroom.

A full recreational room is downstairs. The room offers another big, white-brick wood-burning fireplace and over-size television. You can watch from the leather sectional, or while playing a bit of pool, or from the game table, which doubles as an office/desk when the family allows! A real farm trailer serves as a teen lounger. Adirondack chairs are a great way to enjoy the outdoor firepit. The home stocks cornhole, cards, board games...whatever is your pleasure.

Whether you are a winter skiier/boarder, ATV rider, or spring hiker/biker, there is a drop zone immediately inside the large garage door and across from the washer and dryer for your convenience.

Kathleen's Cottage offers a second King-size bedroom of times-gone-by with smoky authentic lamps, a third Queen bedroom in vintage greens, and a cowboy/girl's Bunk Room for the kids with three single bunks and a trundle that sleeps up to four little wranglers.

The Cottage is a few minutes to the nearest grocery (Food Lion) and about 10 minutes to the adorable downtown of Boone. Its restaurants and shops always feel alive with folks from App State to the old-timers. A bit further brings you to all the areas features including ATV tracks, mountain skiing and boarding, miles and miles of hiking and biking trails, and so much more.

We had an excellent overall experience!
The house and grounds met our needs (6 adults) ideally. The surrounding property is beautiful in a natural setting. In spite of a couple of issues caused by recent heavy rains, our hostess, Tracy, was very responsive and took steps immediately to correct any problems. She was very pleasant and communicative. The residence had been recently remodeled and had a lot of extra niceties - like dual sinks in every bathroom. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all on the main floor making it a plus for the mobility impaired.

First family vacation in 5 years
My family of 11 stayed for a week in this beautiful home! This property entertained people from age 4 to age 67!!! Having walking access to the overlook was wonderful! And gave the kids(with adult supervision, since you have to cross 2 roads) something fun to do if we didn’t have anything specific planned! And the wagon lounger was a hit with the teens! The kitchen was very well stocked with supplies, and nicely organized! This property is in a perfect location to access towns like Boone, Blowing Rock, and West Jefferson! We would also highly recommend the High Mountain Expeditions River tubing! It was probably my favorite thing we did all week! Tracy was absolutely wonderful to work with, and made planning our vacation super easy! I would highly recommend this property to anyone! Hopefully it won’t be another 5 years before our next vacation!

It was a great place to stay!!
The property was located in a great area for just hanging out in Boone and the NC mountains. Each morning we went across the HWY to view the early morning sunrise over the mountains. There is plenty of space for a large gathering and its location is easy to get to. I would definitely stay there again.
