About this property

Applecross Chalet at Tonto Creek~ Hike & Fish, then Hot Tub!

NEWLY REMODELED/REDECORATED!

Our cabin is reminiscent of a Swedish chalet, decorated with Scandinavian cabin style. Perfect for a romantic getaway or an adventure with the kids or furkids (20 lbs or smaller- INQUIRE FIRST regarding larger dogs:)! Tonto Creek is right across the lane. WiFi by Starlink; works GREAT!

Applecross is located in the charming little hamlet of Kohl's Ranch, about 13 miles east of downtown Payson. Surrounded by one of the worlds largest ponderosa forests with Tonto Creek a few steps away, our cottage is a romantic adventure hideaway waiting to share it's magic with you! Managed by New Millennium AZ Realty, we strive to bring you a top notch vacation experience!

Recently renovated, the cottage offers...

💮 Access to Tonto Creek; the path is across the lane

💮 A master bedroom with a sumptuous, comfortable Queen bed and evap cooler, should it ever get hot enough to need it. Ensuite right off the master complete with large tiled shower.

💮 Other bedrooms are downstairs via a spiral staircase. Private bath that features an antique clawfoot tub, pulled from an old house in Tombstone. Queen bed, and small sitting area with queen futon, TV.
Great set up for 2 separate couples, offering max privacy. Or stow the older kids downstairs!

💮 Back up in the main house~ the sunroom dining area has amazing views.

💮 Living room with flat screen TV & Soundbar, free WiFi, DVD player, and a Swedish Fire Stove operated via a wall mounted thermostat (has real flames). Skylights flood the whole room with light or watch the stars from the reclining sofas!

💮 Fully stocked kitchen with full sized stove, fridge, microwave, RO water and a small dishwasher.

💮 Pets OK! 2 small (20lbs or less) dogs are allowed; $50 fee for EACH pet. MAY allow larger breed with increased fee; PLEASE inquire BEFORE booking.

💮 Large deck with dining set for 6. Relax and enjoy the expansive views of the surrounding forest. Perfect for a 3AM milky way viewing! Or cuddle up around the firepit!

💮Hot Tub in the forest! Follow the path to a hot soak with an amazing view! Path/terrain is uneven and loose footing to the far end of the property- bring flip flops. Feels very private and enchanting!

💮 Entire house keeps VERY cool with an evap cooler.
And very warm with a propane, full flame Jotul fireplace in the winter, as well as extra heaters here and there.🔥

💮 Yard is fenced, but please keep your eye on the kids and furkids.

PLEASE NOTE: For bookings over 60 days, I require a deposit in the amount of 1 month's rent, to be paid offline. Due 14 days prior to check in. ➡️ALSO, due to the increase in SPAM requests, please tell me a bit about yourself, your travel plans, etc. Because no, I can't take a check from your boss who is the maharajah of Franistahn. ;)

🎣 Across the lane is the access to Tonto Creek, which is stocked with Apache, rainbow, brook, cutthroat, tiger, and brown trout! Hike along the creek down to the waterfall or lay amongst the wildflowers! If you don't like to fish, bring a "små godisar" or a small treat for the fish! They adore cheese! 🐟

🍖Hungry? Walk down to the Kohl's Ranch Lodge and have the best wood fired pizza and BBQ at Zane Grey (Closed Mondays and Tuesdays during off Season)! Or hand crafted cocktails at the saloon! 🍹
Tour the charming grounds or go for a horseback ride while there! Having your wedding at the Lodge? Mention your Kohl's Ranch wedding and you can receive a discount when renting this property for wedding guests! 👰

A few miles up highway 260 is the Mogollon Rim Visitor Center with breathtaking views! This is your jumping off point for Willow Springs Lake and Wood Canyon Lake where you can rent a kayak or fishing boat for a day of lake fun.🛶

If you decide to stay home, there is still plenty of adventure to be found right in your yard. 🦌Look for the elk that like to rest amongst the rose brambles on the south side of the yard! Or explore the romantic old double swing or various little sitting areas around the property. Or just sit on the deck and keep an eye out for passing raccoons, javelina, deer, elk, fox, turkey, weasels, all kinds of birds...and even an occasional visit from a mountain lion or bear! 🦝🦊🧸

🌠The master features the most romantic skylight for all-night star gazing! An antique window set high in the wall casts a warm glow when the living room fire is going! Skylights offer plenty of light and a glimpse of the ponderosa pines right outside.🌲 You can even watch out the kitchen window while prepping dinner for the resident raccoon or elk wandering through the back yard!

In the sunroom: Kick back and read one of the many antique books that describe the local flora and fauna!📚 This room is all double paned windows and insulted; the evap cooler reaches into there and there is an AC in there that you can utilize should you desire. ♟️New and vintage/antique games in the cabinet!🎲 Horseshoes and Corn Hole set on Shed Patio.

The town of Payson, located about 15 miles to the west, offers loads of wonderful restaurants, antique shops and grocery stores. Be sure to grab your groceries on the way up!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to our unique, rural area, we are on SEPTIC. We must insist a limit of 6 adults book for this property! Inquire BEFORE booking about your particular situation to be sure this will be a good fit for your family. Owner reserves the right to deny bookings where the capacity exceeds the service's capabilities. Be aware that this is in the FOREST; you will see critters, insects and experience possible power/internet outages. If this isn't something you are OK with, please book a hotel in Payson.

Wonderful property
Home was amazing! Host was beyond friendly and accommodating. We loved all the extra touches. Kids enjoyed the fishing poles and the s’mores ingredients. Beds were comfy and the neighborhood was lovely. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay or experience. Thank you for a great stay!

Weekend Getaway
Fantastic home in the woods with everything you need to relax and decompress. Home is well equipped with everything you need. Neighborhood is quiet and makes sitting on the balcony, or in the yard, and great escape.

Amazing rental
This was the perfect getaway from the valley for the weekend. Home was stocked with everything you may need, a jacuzzi to warm up in, the owner was very quick to respond and the area was beautiful. This is the perfect getaway for couples as there are separate spaces, but if you all want to be together there’s plenty of space to play games, enjoy a meal or watching the stars. The creek is adjacent to the houses on the other side of the road but not accessible unless you go to the main road by the lodge. We will definitely be booking this beautiful space again soon!

Cozy cottage
The cottage was clean, cozy and cool. Loved the front deck for the cool breeze, reading, relaxing, and eating. Only complaint would be too many trinkets on counters and cabinets taking up usable guest space.

Forest Getaway
My dog was in paradise during this entire stay. The whole family enjoyed it thoroughly. Only con was the outside furniture was covered in dust/pollen but they provided blankets to cover. It was lovely.
