About this property

Charming Woodland Cabin in a Coastal Forest Above the Fog

A unique and charming woodland cabin nestled in a coastal forest above the fog, just two miles from spectacular ocean views and beaches.
Sugar Mountain was designed and built by artist & architect Douglas Purdy, and features handmade doors & latches, a cozy wood stove, clawfoot bathtub, exposed beam high ceilings, unique sleeping loft, a fully equipped kitchen, and back porch with forest views all around.

A cozy double-bed bedroom on the main floor sleeps two, and you will find a king size bed made up in the loft.

☆ Please note-- access to the loft requires the use of a pull-down staircase OR climbing up the built in ladder, which may not be ideal for those with mobility issues ☆

We offer fast reliable cable Internet and WiFi, with a Smart TV.

Located in the Cape Ferrelo neighborhood, six miles north of Brookings, Oregon, across from House Rock, Indian Sands, and Whales Head beaches. The cabin is surrounded by a serene forest with wrap around back porch, for taking in the forest and coastal fog.

The cabin has super fast wifi and good phone reception, a bluetooth stereo system, smart tv and the cabin stays cozy with both a wood stove and electric heat.
There is a 'smart tv' availble for you to sign into your own Netflix account (remember to sign out or others may use it!) or select 'Watch Free' from the main menu to choose from the many movies, tv, and music options
There is also a variety of puzzles in the kitchen cabinet for guests to enjoy!

This cabin was hand-built by artist Douglas Purdy, who was a bronze artist and local architect. You can see his handmade, one of a kind door latches, unique placement of doorknobs, and enjoy the exposed high beam ceilings, loft, low cabinets and toasty wood stove as he imagined!

Please be respectful of this cabin and the neighborhood. We have a lot of deer and wildlife, please drive slow on all gravel roads.

*Seasonal* The Woodstove is available for use in colder months. Firewood is located in the built-in bench in the entranceway. Take note of the fire extinguisher and don’t leave fires unattended.

There is also electric baseboard heating if needed.

Return the key to the lockbox on the garage upon departure. Code will be sent after booking.

Please note- Being a somewhat 'rustic' setting, the cabin had attracted an occasional bat visitor (twice in two years). This is easily remedied by turning on the outside porch light, turning off all other lights, and leaving the front door open. The harmless bat friend will happily fly outside!

We are always available if you have any questions, or concerns that may arise during your stay.

Costal Cabin
This is a great spot if you are looking for a quiet charming place to enjoy some down time. It’s best probably for a couple, but will sleep more. The cabin itself is marvelous. It’s small and very efficiently laid out. The builder handmade much of it and everything is wonderfully crafted. You can feel the quality of the hand construction. The location is a bit tricky to find on arrival especially at night, but follow the directions and it’s not a problem. It becomes easy once you’ve been there. It’s surrounded by neighbors but you don’t see or hear anything, it has a secluded feel and you can enjoy the coastal woods surrounding you. Close to Brookings and Gold Beach is 20 minutes drive. Hosts are great.

Relaxed location
The cottage is set in a very nice wooded location, it has everything you need, and is just right for two. As has been mentioned before, you do need to have some remaining athletic ability to access the king sized bed “upstairs” either via the “ladder” on the wall, or via the more traditional drop down “attic” stairs. If you use the latter, anyone who has a large frame, will struggle to access the only bathroom should you need too while the attic stair is lowered,. The living area is both artistically rustic and well equipped. The WI-FI worked well enough for me to stream live TV without hesitation. Brookings is a short drive away with a well stocked grocery store, so while this location feels a little off the grid, the truth is you are close to all you need. Overall it’s a lovely location, peacefully nestled amongst the tree’s.

Pros and Cons
Pros: Quiet, nice tub, nice deck, in the woods, everything worked. Cons: Place was dark-needs more lighting, the ground floor bed is a double-my partner and I squeezed into it. If you want a queen bed, it's up one either a ladder or an attic stairway-I wouldn't want to have to come down either in the middle of the night to use the toilet. Also the queen bed was way too soft for us. We sank into the couch and it was too small for two adults. Would be better to get rid of the small table next to the couch and get a longer couch. Place is maybe better suited to one person than two. Also, it's not so easy to find, especially at night.

Wonderful!
This was the perfect getaway for the two of us. Close to both town and the beautiful Oregon coast, but still feels like you have the world to yourself. The cabin is cozy and charming and has everything you need. It was great!

Jochen and Liza are artists, foodies, world travelers and Geodesic Dome builders living on the Oregon Coast. Originally from Germany, Johan is passionate for organic gardening and cooking, while Liza is a full-time sculpture artist who goes by 'Wooliza'.

Why they chose this property

Sugar Mountain is truly a one of a kind cabin built by an amazing artist and architect Douglas Purdy. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is exceptional throughout the cabin, and we love the child-like fun of climbing the ladder to the comfortable loft bedroom, cozying up in front of the woodstove or soaking in the glorious claw-foot bathtub.

What makes this property unique

Situated just above the Samuel Bordman Scenic Corridor, there are spectacular beaches, viewpoints, hikes and more all within two miles of the cabin. While not an ocean-view home, you can hear the ocean and enjoy the coastal fog that makes the Oregon Coast unqiue.
