About this property

Mississippi River House with unobstructed views!

Welcome to The River House!
This quaint home with stunning views will be the perfect place to unwind and make memories! Bellevue is a beautiful, quiet river town and the people are "Iowa Nice". ♥
** The River House is Pending sale. However, the new owners will be keeping it as a rental. Please message me with interested dates, and I will let you know if it is available and when their listing is live so that you can book with them. (Probably around June 10th. Rates will remain the same.)
** Please note that my home is NOT 2 miles from Galena like VRBO says! (Unless you plan to swim or drive across the Missisippi!) I am located in Bellevue, IOWA and it is a 45-50 minute drive to Main Street, and an hour to Chestnut Ski Resort.

* This 1111 sf home was built in 1971 by a carpenter, and it has some unique and adorable quirks! Please do not expect "perfect" and modern, as the house has more of a rustic character to it!

* The deck provides a glorious unobstructed view of the river. As you can see from the photos, the sunrises are amazing and you have a front row seat! The birds are singing and it is so relaxing.
* The sun room has windows all around and they provide terrific river views. It has a gas fireplace which will be perfect for chilly nights!
* There is an office area, complete with a 23" monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse! Perfect for working remotely!
* There is a patio set on the deck with 6 chairs. There is also a patio table/8 patio chairs available to move to the riverbank.
(Since the land after my sidewalk is Corp of Engineer (USA) property, I am not able to have a permanent patio set or fire pit. There is a portable fire pit available. You will need to buy the wood and clean it after use.) (This is also why the front of house facing the river may be a little “wild”! I am not allowed to trim anything past my sidewalk.)

* The River House is dog friendly! (3 dogs Max. Sorry, no cats or other pets!)
There is a a $75 dog fee per reservation. Please send me a message to let me know that you have a dog and I will send you the "Dog Rules" to make sure that my home will be a good fit for you before booking. (Undisclosed dogs observed after check-in will result in cancelation with no refund.)

* Roku Smart TV's in every room. NO CABLE! (Roku, Netflix, Amazon TV, YouTube etc. Guest Mode allows you to log into your own accounts, and will log you out on check out day.)
* Tons of DVD's and 2 DVD players that you can hook up as needed. There are games and some puzzles in the loft closet!
>>>>Please read photo captions for more information on the home.
* MAX OF 8 total guests. (Infants do not count in this total.)
* There are security cameras outside of both exterior doors. (They only see the area in front of the door. )

** If you will be needing bedding for the pull out sofa or futon, I will need to know prior to checkin so my cleaner can leave it out.

*** As you can see in pictures, there is a small decline/incline to get to/leave the house. If it snows, my neighbor plows the drive. It can get a little slick. Drive slow and be careful. :) There is kitty litter and salt in the utility room.

While I only have a few VRBO reviews, I do have over 100 "5 star reviews" on "the other site". You will love your relaxing time at The River Retreat!

* My home is located right on the edge of town. The bike/walking path is located across the road! Bring your bikes! There is also a bike rental program! I have more info about that in the Manual I will send you.

* The train tracks are across the highway, about 150-200 yards from the house. It is a "no-horn" zone, so it is just background noise. (There are some ear plugs in the cabinet under bathroom vanity should you happen to need them.)
* Barges! There is something relaxing about watching them float by! They are pretty quiet. Every so often, if there is another barge in the Dam, one will tie up to the circle thing in front of the property, and it's pretty interesting to watch the workers!
*Offshore Resort is 1.5 miles down the road. There is a pond with an inflatable aqua park system and a beach! There is also a swimming pool, playground, and other amenities! (offshoreresort.net)

* There are multiple boat docks in the area for boaters/fishermen! (There is no dock at the house just yet. Hopefully in the future!)

* This is not a party pad! It is for a little R & R along the river. Please keep outside noise level to a minimum out of respect to the neighbors. They are quiet people, and deserve the same respect. (The houses are close to each other.)

* No smoking or vaping in the home. Please have windows closed if you are doing so outside, and clean up your butts!

* No glitter or confetti... you know why not. Haha

* I have pest control service, but please realize that you are on the river and some unwelcome "guests" may come visit. I obviously have no control over the outdoor insects. Keeping outside lights off and doors closed will help. I have vanilla extract, "Bug Soother", "Buggins" etc. There may be some "fish flies" too. Keep outside lights off when they are around. (You may notice that the street lights are off at times. That is because of fish flies.)

Perfect place to stay
Quick response to our question when we got there. Quiet and peaceful, I never heard the barges go by. Easy to find. Short drive to town for groceries and to Maquoketa Cave State Park. Daughters thought their beds upstairs were a little hard (personal preference), but the one downstairs was very comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. Best set of skillets I have seen in a rental.

Absolutely beautiful sunrise.
This house is sitting on top of the River Bank overlooking the mississippi. There's absolutely nothing blocking your view. The sunrise we experience was absolutely gorgeous. The small home has lots of amenities and is worth the trip.

Just What the Doctor Ordered
The property was everything we expected. Location was amazing with the Mississippi river view. The house was very well appointed, comfortable and clean. The home lacked for nothing. The fireplace kept us toasty warm on the cool days and nights, the bed was comfy, as well as the sofas. All the instructions and local town amenities were very comprehensive. My husband and I could not have asked for a more relaxing, tasteful home to put our feet up and chill out in.
