About this property

Firefly Suite | 2 Bed, 0.5 Bath

Firefly Suite is an upscale OFF THE GRID getaway with conveniences for those simply looking to enjoy nature’s beauty.  The cabin features a beautifully designed interior with oak hardwood floors, naturally lit space, a sleeping loft, porch that overlooks the valley and Peregrine Rock and a stone fire ring.  Our Firefly Suite offers the best combination of modern amenities without forgetting the classic experience of a mountainside cabin tucked away on the hillside.

Please note that this cabin is at the end of a 3/4 mile, bumpy, sometimes muddy, gravel road.  Small two-wheeled vehicles can make it to the cabin, but four wheel drives have an easier time.  There is also a lovely 1/2 mile walking trail that connects from our main office parking lot to the cabin.  Many guests enjoy leaving their car, and the modern world, behind them and choose to fully hike to the cabin.

Great for some, but not for everyone. And spider alert!
I wasn't exactly sure what we were getting when I booked. I was impressed with the pictures, but I didn't think much about what "off the grid" really means. That was my fault. So think about that before you book. Not all of my family was as pleased with no plumbing as I thought they might be. The cabin was quaint, comfortable, and clean, as pictured. There were small piles of a sawdust-type material in the loft when we arrived, and one appeared on the main floor during the first night. We didn't know what it was and didn't really worry about it. The firepit area was nice. There was a propane heater and an ample supply of water. Comfy beds. The drive up the one-lane road was a bit scary. It is a steep climb; we were glad for 4WD. We weren't sure what we would do if we met another car, but that never happened. We left at 11 PM the second night when our girls discovered an emormous spider in the outhouse. My husband first went out to kill it, but he came back and said he wasn't going to try to bring that monster down (in the dark). We think it as a Carolina Wolf Spider (maybe?), but it would cover a man's palm. Hubby was the one who didn't think "off the grid" was an ideal vacation, so this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We packed up quickly and drove to a nice hotel an hour down the road. Hosts were responsive before our stay and also during, but you can't reach them from the cabin without cell service, so there's that. Great for some, probably not for all!

Loved the cabin!
We loved the cabin, it’s beautiful and comfortable, has a lovely view and is far enough away from neighbors. The pulley system for the loft entertained my kids for hours. The only thing I didn’t love was the guest bathroom at the HQ, it’s not pretty like the cabin is, but I did appreciate the hot shower.

Photos featured here are not justifying for how beautiful this place is. Most likely one of the best places we have stayed, enjoyed very much!

Nice! REMOTE
Enjoyed our stay at Firefly. The only suggestion would be to have some type of battery operated fan on the ceiling to regulate the heat at night for those sleeping in the loft.

Leaf peeping in RRG
The hosts were remarkable. Checking in on us each day and provided ample tips for preparing to visit as well as things to do as we were there. Don’t be scared of the outhouse….it was cleaner than my bathroom at home. Be prepared for a single lane drive up to the cabin with some steeps inclines at points. I highly recommend the host and Firefly cabin. Looking forward to renting again in the future.
