About this property

Historic Farm Property, 40 min. from Penn State, Private Pickleball Court

Our cottage provides accommodations for up to 5 adults and not more regardless of bringing your own air mattress, etc. Children with portacrib(s) may be approved by contacting us in advance. We are not the right choice for large Penn State groups beyond 5 adults. Thank you for your understanding.

This quaint, renovated cottage offers the best of two worlds! Located just 40 minutes from Penn State's Beaver Stadium, this respite provides comfortable accommodations for anyone attending a Penn State football game, graduation, or parent’s weekend.
As a destination all its own, the Cottage at Plum Bottom Farm offers picturesque landscapes in all seasons. Rural, rolling hills with farms dotting the horizon and horse and buggies sharing the road will remind you that things are simpler here. The area is perfect for scenic country drives and offers many opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. NEW in 2022, a private Pickleball Court and fire pit.
This property does not host hunters.
Sleeping accommodations include three bedrooms. Two bedrooms have a queen size bed. The third has a single bed. All rooms have a closet and windows offering natural light and scenic views of this 100+-acre farm.
The fully equipped kitchen has a stove and refrigerator, as well as toaster, coffee maker, microwave, cookware, dishware, flatware, and cooking utensils. There is access to washer and dryer.
There is a full bath with tub-shower unit, sink and toilet.
A private deck offers outside seating overlooking the pastures and the peaceful beauty of neighboring farms that must be witnessed in person to be fully appreciated.
There is wifi on premise and a smart tv is available for use with the guest's own streaming service.
Pennsylvania Route 655 is known as Main Street within the village, with residences and a few businesses spread out within about two blocks of Main Street. Locally owned and revered Shy Bear Brewing is just 13 miles away in Lewistown. They offer thirst-quenching libations and a full schedule of live entertainment and events throughout the year.
Weekday visitors will enjoy the flea market and auction in Belleville every Wednesday. Locally grown produce and homemade baked goods are available and make for a delicious treat back at the cottage.

Peaceful & relaxing ☺️
We were in town for a concert at Penn State, only about 40 minutes from the stadium. The cottage was a perfect place to relax & unwind. The beds were so comfortable! It was very quiet, surrounded by farmland. Our family of 4 - my husband, myself & our 2 kiddos - 13 & 8, look forward to visiting again! Thank you to Joy & Keith for being wonderful hosts!

About the host

Hosted by Joy Rodgers-Mernin

Host profile image
Joy Rodgers-Mernin and her husband Keith Mernin own the Cottage at Plum Bottom Farm. Together, they raised their two children on the property and currently live in the private primary residence. The property has been in Joy's family since 1755. Joy and Keith are also the owners of The Nittany Quill, the only stationery shop in downtown State College, steps from Penn State University's main campus. The shop has been in business more than 35 years and they are a Penn State licensee.

Why they chose this property

The property was "warranted in 1755 to James Alexander. There has been a descendent
of James Alexander living on the property ever since. The current owner's father began started farming the land in the mid-fifties.

What makes this property unique

The surrounding Amish farms and untouched, pristine Pennsylvania landscape makes this a true escape from the ordinary. The distance to Penn State makes our farm cottage attractive to those who want to enjoy visiting the university but take in the countryside, as well. The professionally developed Pickleball offers a great space to learn the game or polish existing skills without the pressure of other players wanting to get on the court.
