About this property

Wooded + Rustic Hideaway Minutes From River, Natl/State Parks, Hiking & Wineries

At the Shenandoah South Fork Hideaway, the choice is yours: Do you want to drive 5 minutes to hike the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests? Fifteen minutes to canoe down the Shenandoah River, or to Front Royal and Skyline Drive? Twenty minutes to the local wineries and meaderies, or to the Shenandoah State Park?

Or — maybe — would you rather just enjoy your own private hideaway, tucked at the bottom of the mountains and nestled within the untamed forest?

Built on an old wagon trail, this rustic 3-bedroom, 2-bath cabin will greet you with stunning views of the mountains (and river, once the leaves fall) that you can enjoy from your 3rd-floor loft bedroom with giant picture windows, or your expansive 2nd-floor deck made for entertaining. Spot the deer that live nearby as they stroll through the meadow on your property, or turn your eyes skyward toward hawks during the day and the most incredible views of the stars at night.

Just south of Front Royal and 90 minutes from Washington DC, it's the ultimate accessible spot that feels like you're a million miles away. The hideaway sits on nearly 3 wooded acres off a gravel road, and visitors have said it feels like you've traveled back in time once you get there.

This property does NOT have river access, but there are two public river landings within a 10 minute drive.

Being so close to the river and mountains, it can get buggy when the temps are above freezing, so do bring bug spray. We also have a professional pest control company that routinely does prevention on our house.

It's also likely you'll see other wildlife like deer, birds — and maybe even the occasional bear! Please leave them be and enjoy from a distance.

Bird doggin' weekend
The house and property were excellent. Very clean and plenty of space for 5 adults (one couple, 3 singles). Only one TV in the 4th bedroom which was surprising for a house that size. No washer and dryer which would have been very convienent for the proximity it was to town. If your looking to get away in a wooded quiet location this property is for you. Internet was great, Verizon cell service not so much (none). The decks were very nice for checking out the scenery.

Nice, spacious place
We enjoyed ourselves at this VRBO. Very pretty area, and despite the wildfires we could still do everything we wanted to. Four bedrooms and two full baths made it easy for the three of us to stay there. Our only issue was with the TV, directions at the house of how to access the TV were old and we didn't have access to local channels, or channels we could watch the March Madness games on. Didn't bother me, but did bother my husband. We did have to reach out to the owners a couple times and they were pretty quick to respond through VRBO. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us!

A wonderful retreat tucked in the mountains The three story home was perfect for our family of five. Well stocked with amenities and comfortable Beds. Deck overlooking countryside with a smaller Perch on the thrid floor. Communication with the host was perfect. When we come to Virginia we would pick this cottage again. Highly recommended The white family

Bugs everywhere
The couch smelled awful, we had to buy febreeze just to be able to sit on it. The place was not cleaned enough to meet the expensive cleaning fee with cigarettes littering the outside and dumped into the firepit which i had to clean out myself to be able to use it. The third floor balcony has no handle on the third floor which they said we were not allowed to use (which was not something we knew prior to arriving). There was feces on the porch of the second floor balcony, most likely from someones pet. They also neglected to disclose that they have a stink bug problem. We had to read it in their welcome book that we would be infested with stink bugs the entire trip. I would regularly find at least 20 stink bugs in the top floor bedroom and on two occasions on our 4 day trip had found stink bugs crawling in my bed sheets and on my person. For the space you get, it would have been fine if not for these dealbreaking issues.
