About this property

Historic Home With Carriage House Oldtown Alexandria

This is a registered Historic property. It is one big house with a possible split apartments all interconnected. Carriage house with 2 king beds, a kitchenette and a full bathroom on the property.

To better explain, the original main building has a greeting room, a family room and a formal dining room, a half bath on the first floor.

The second floor has a kitchen, full bath and a formal ballroom which is now the Grand master suite.

The 3rd floor has 2 more bedrooms with Jack and Jill doors connecting them.
So there are 3 bedrooms in the main house.

There was an addition to the house years later. Completely connected to the main house, this addition has a welcoming room and a full kitchen on the 1st floor.

2nd floor has a room with its own bathroom above the kitchen and another room above the welcoming room with a Jack and Jill door connecting a 2nd bathroom with the main house. The 2 bedrooms in this addition are separated by a staircase that leads down to a separate private entrance and an outdoor area.

The is dishwasher in the main house and one in the 2nd kitchen of the addition, non in the carriage house.

There is heat and addition space heaters if required.

There's off street parking, metered parking in front of the home is free after 9pm. There's a parking lot across the street on S St Asaph for paid overnight parking.

There is a carriage house behind this main house which is detached and can be accessed from within the courtyard or Ross Alley.

The outdoor area has seating and fire pits.

Due to the Historic nature of this home, it cannot be renovated and somethings that we absolutely need now where non existent during those days. For example, the bedrooms have no ceiling lights, but floor lamps and table lamps are available. Alternative lighting is available for convenience.

The flooring are original and have experienced some wear and tear but cannot be sanded nor replaced as this will disturb the Historic aspect of the home. Throw rugs help protect them.

In all, there is so much to discuss, discover and derive from booking this unique elegant structure.

While here, ask to be shown the path to the underground railroad.

Thank you for reading this and for booking with me.

Christmas in Alexandria
Below is a message sent to the host on December 28 highlighting some issues and asking for a modest partial refund. As of January 9, no response has been made. I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share some feedback about our recent stay at your property. While the issues we encountered were minor individually, their combined impact made me reconsider our overall experience. Firstly, I understand that mistakes happen, and we appreciate your quick correction of the access code mix-up. However, I messaged you on the Vrbo app and didn't receive a prompt response until after I called. Vrbo suggests using the app for communication during check-in, so I expected a quicker reply. After getting the correct code, we didn't receive any other information about the house. Most rentals in this price range have a guestbook or similar, and the lack of basic details, including wifi and heating instructions, caused some discomfort. This resulted in the upstairs being too warm initially and then too cold. Once we received the instructions, we were able to manage the heating and cooling. We also noticed multiple light bulbs were out. Fortunately, we found some replacements at the house, but we didn't anticipate having to change them ourselves to improve visibility. Lastly, there was a steady stream of ants in the middle bathroom on the second floor. I can provide a video if needed, but this was unfortunate, especially since some family members are uncomfortable dealing with

Great Home!
This was the perfect place for a girls weekend. There was plenty of space for all of us to spread out. Everything was easily walkable to get to.

Perfect Old Town vacation rental
One of our favorite vacation rentals. Incredibly spacious historic home that feels perfect for Old Town. Unbeatable location a block off King Street in the heart of Old Town with easy access to GW Parkway for excursions into the district. The house has high ceilings throughout and endless room. Lovely walled patio was ideal for the arrival of spring weather during our visit. Host was kind and gracious, though in truth we didn’t need to call on her after arrival because the house was well stocked and everything worked with no problem. Will visit again for sure.

Enjoyed it
Very nice. You might warn guests about trip hazards and uneven floors and steps. One oven was very dirty with spilled food.

Great stay
The house is great. The location is excellent; it was exactly the elegant, historic home I was hoping for when we planned our family gathering. The host is very responsive and answers messages quickly. The pictures don't actually do it justice; it's more spacious than the pictures are able to show. We would book it again.
