About this property

Romantic Cabin with Incredible Views, 5 miles to Durango on Lightner Creek

Updated cute and spacious bunkhouse-like cabin for a romantic retreat in a small old west-like town. Incredible views of Lightener Creek and trout ponds. Feed the rainbow trout and domestic ducks, hike, ride mountain bikes, and enjoy a campfire. At 6900 feet, it's cooler than Durango so bring a jacket for the evenings. Rustic on the outside, but completely modern inside. Quick access to the Colorado Wildlife area, hiking of Twin Buttes, and only 10 minutes to downtown Durango. Close to skiing, fishing, hunting, and all the recreation the Durango area offers.

You can cross-country ski or ride mountain bikes out the front door!

Pets are welcome but please keep them off the beds and couch as the hair is challenging to remove. We will watch them for you if you're taking the train or going somewhere you can't take them.

Weddings and other special events are possible. Please call if interested.

Thanks for checking out our cabin!

Great out door space
We had a lot of fun with the kids and the property owners, feeding the fish, ducks, geese, etc. We also brought up motorcycles and rode around the property so beautiful and loved our stay.

Amazing property
we loved the open spaces, the ponds and river. The cabin was clean, comfy and cheerful with the owners art work. Everything we needed for our three days there. We would definitely return. PS our dog had a great time playing with Mocha, the owners dog. they ran and ran.

About the host

Host profile image
The cabin you are staying in was one of the original buildings back in 1958. The fellow planned to have an RV campground and this was to be the office. The section with the full restroom was once a KOA cabin.
As you wander the barn area, you’ll see an Art Studio where the wife enjoys painting – pop in and say hi. A little further is the RV shed, then a small log shed with a Laundry sign from the place at the end of the road where the movie, City Dudes was filmed. Drive up and see the movie prop barn and massive gates of barbed wire. Fourteen movies were filmed in around Durango, including How The West Was Won.
The next cabin was a historic building given to the former owner. The Durango Livery’s barn rafters are curved, notched, and heavily oiled as they are from the old Animas Flume south of the Purgatory Ski Area. What we call the Library is made of logs from an old cabin. The music studio and shop were built in the early 1970s.
On the hill by the road, the original brown house was built in 1958 along with the A-Frame cabin, then the north cabin was constructed. Sometime in the 1970’s the Lone Pine Cabin just south of the brown house was built from the historic Animas City Elementary School logs.
The fish hatchery (now our duck shed) was built sometime in the 1960s. The water comes from a pure Rocky Mountain spring to the north.
Pets are allowed, but not on the couch or beds since their hair is difficult to remove. Bring your own covers and please do not leave them alone in the cabin.

Why they chose this property

The area looks like an old west town. People often photograph the buildings and some have painted them. You can feed rainbow trout, ducks, and wild turkeys. The host is an expert on edible wild plants and flowers. Hike, bike, or ski the trails, also the Colorado Wildlife area is just north of the property, or hike the Twin Buttes. Bring your mountain bikes.

What makes this property unique

Only thirty miles to Mesa Verde, and 20 miles to Purgatory Ski Area. It is an hour to Silverton or Pagosa Hot Springs. and 20 minutes to Durango Hot Springs. 2 hours to Telluride. Lots of history in this area.
