About this property

Space and elegance near Capitol Reef

Rarely available, this is the home of two people who seek beauty in art and nature. Magnificently sited, wrap-around views. On 53 acres, with horse barn, corral, pasture, alfalfa fields. Fully equipped kitchen, gracious living room, extraordinary library, game room. Eclectic and personal art collection. Excellent management by April Morrison. 2 BRs, each with private bath. Bedroom 1, very large, with king-sized bed, desk, bench, and Capitol Reef sunrise view from bed. Connecting bath has double sinks and a walk-in shower, also with views! Beyond, a walk-in closet with washer and dryer (the 2nd set in house). Bedroom 2, equally large, set up for two adults or children, with two twin beds and its own bathroom. Another child could be accommodated on a cot. Fully equipped kitchen and comfortable dining area, living room with conversation area, CD collection and Bose Wave system, a library well-stocked with novels and art books, and a game room with mini-billiards table. Art collection includes Chinese scholars' rocks and photographs, but views are the most staggering works of art and the windows have been designed to frame them. BBQ available. We use it in the garage because of wind. Great base for exploring one of the most beautiful, least spoiled areas of America.

Beautiful seclusion
Beautiful property off the beaten path. Wonderfully appointed, comfortable, clean, easy to get to. Perfect property to connect with loved ones, visit Capitol Reef NP nearby, or just relax and enjoy the night sky.

Almost as good as could be
Great location, some miscommunication about the listing that were happily and quickly cleared up once we arrived and asked. Unique place, that could use a few touches, fixes and upgrades to deserve a 5 all across the board. A shower that barely works, a motley collection of kitchen accessories that lacks functionality in some ways, but beautiful, quiet and in many ways unique

Hidden Gem
This property is truly a hidden gem. The open concept, beautifully furnished home is cozy, clean, and well stocked. With so many acres of open space, remote location, and the occasional deer, nature truly comes alive untouched. With minimal light pollution, the property is an astrophotographer's dream. The location was perfect for us to visit all Mighty 5 Utah' National Parks in one week, and its proximity to Capitol Reef NP is a bonus. We had no rain, so there was no need for AWD, but can imagine one might be needed if the soil is wet. April was a wonderful host and very responsive. We did have a couple of minor maintenance issues that were promptly addressed. Will definitely come back.

Truly Exceptional Get-Away
My wife and I stayed here for a week in August 2022. This was truly one of the most exceptional vacations that we have had. The house itself was stunning. It was clean, well-kept, offered every amenity that we could need, and offered a very aesthetically relaxing home-base for our vacation. It is filled with a fascinating art collection and is surrounded by a landscape that is just as beautiful. It is a very short drive to Capitol Reef National Park, and even the drive itself takes you past stunning views. From a logistical perspective, things could not have been easier. April is an excellent property manager, and communicated with us throughout our stay to ensure that everything was working well. Couldn't recommend this house highly enough!

I live in Florida caring for my husband, but I dream of being in Utah. I bought the Steel House and the Adobe House as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity although I can't use them much right now. I want to be in Teasdale when I can, leave the property to my grandchildren, and, in the meantime, make it available to others so they can enjoy what I consider the most beautiful unspoiled country in America. April Morrison, my partner in running the Steel House and the Adobe House, lives locally and will take care of you well. We are united in wanting to make each house a place of refuge and a base for adventure. I am a retired college professor. In our younger days, my husband and I loved hiking, which is how we found Teasdale in 1995. We returned as often as we could until my husband (now 97) got less mobile. Some of my best memories are of hiking and 4-wheel driving in Capitol Reef and around Torrey and Teasdale. In those days too I wrote travel pieces for the New York Times, including reports about hiking in Yosemite and to Macchu Picchu, shopping for rugs in Istanbul, and living in a houseboat on the Seine. I never wrote about Teasdale because I wanted to keep it to myself.

Why they chose this property

A refuge in the high-desert West, spacious, beautiful, elegant, well-equipped, the ranch is located in the beautiful Teasdale valley, with spectacular views, including the bright green agricultural fields, with their dancing irrigation water, and the majestic landmarks of Capitol Reef, changing with every minute's light. With the amazing rock formations all around, even the 8-minute trip to the general store in Torrey is a treat. This is the real west: in fall the cattle are herded down Teasdale Road back from their summer pastures in the mountains. Our fields grow alfafa to feed them. The landscape is the landscape of John Ford movies. This is a rare part of America -- authentic, beautiful, unspoiled.

What makes this property unique

Clear air, astonishing night skies, everchanging light. Great hiking and adventure driving. You could spend years exploring Capitol Reef, the least crowded of the five great Utah national parks. One hour's drive up Boulder Mt to Hell's Backbone Bar and Grill, the famous restaurant. View ranching life up close all around you. Remarkable chance to pick fruit from pioneer Mormon orchards at Capitol Reef in the fall.
