Relaxation at it’s best
Close to plaza’s history & fabulous shops. We have been visitors before but each time has been awesome. The amenities in your home were homey and Every detail was provided for us. One glitch we wanted to mention was the connection to the TV. Needs to be more uncomplicated for us non techies. Overall, we had a wonderful time & would definitely visit again.

Lovely property a short drive away from Sante Fe
This place had everything we were looking for: a comfortable, clean, dog-friendly house with a yard, proximity to a couple of good restaurants, proximity to Sante Fe, and cool weather. The hosts did a great job on the first three, and we lucked out with the weather. My only complaint was that I wish we would have had more time so that we could have stayed longer.

About the host

Hosted by John & Denise

Host profile image
John and Denise are two born-and-raised New Yorkers now living in Austin, Texas and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

John is a full-time software product manager and part-time nerd while Denise is a full-time legal manager and part-time artist.

Joining us are our son and adopted daughter, now 19 and 21, respectively, who both attend college in New Mexico.

We fell in love with Santa Fe and decided to spend more time there before we figure out where we want to retire. Retirement is still a long time away, but Santa Fe is at the top of our list!

Why they chose this property

Rancho Puerta Roja is a former horse ranch with two unique dwellings - The Loft and The Cabin - on 2.5 acres surrounded by mountain views. It's a perfect, pet-friendly, quiet retreat but still only 15 minutes to The Plaza, museums, hiking, Meow Wolf, and historical sites such as Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu.

The Cabin is a perfect place for our kids to live while going to school, with just enough room for us to visit and work whenever our schedules allow.

The Loft is a newly renovated Quonset hut with a full kitchen, all-new stainless steel appliances, washer and dryer, modern decor, and convenient smart home features and automations. (For example, "Alexa, set the house to bedtime mode," will lock the doors, dim the interior lights, turn off the patio lights, and (optionally) arm the security system.)

If The Loft doesn't have guests when we're in town, it's our preferred place to stay with our two senior Cocker Spaniels. It's a perfect space for two adults and our fur babies.

What makes this property unique

Sunrise from the paddock and Sunset from the patio are equally awe inspiring. If you're an early riser, like John, you'll be lucky enough to experience them both each day.

In the Summer, the temperature can sometimes reach the 90's but almost every night it drops to the high 50's or lows 60's. We love to turn off the air conditioning and sleep with all the windows open and listen to the sounds of the former ranch.

BUT, when we don't feel like cooking or want to get some exercise, it's only a few minutes to get some great takeout, eat at a downtown restaurant, or hike a nearby trail.

We enjoy downtown but we love being able to retreat to our quiet, private property just a few minutes away.
