Peaceful, beautiful setting
We very much enjoyed our stay at Poggio Capponi. The estate produces wine and olive oil and owns several apartments in a tiny hamlet nearby. The views from the hilltop hamlet are sooo peaceful, though we couldn't see them from our apartment. The hamlet itself is very quaint and very old, (dating back to the 1500s, according to our host), and has 2 restaurants. A private wine-and-olive-oil tasting and tour of the winery was included in our stay and was fun and educational. Overall we were very pleased with our stay.
Oddly, the apartment we were given was not the same one that we booked, according to the photos and description. This might be due to the fact that the owner was away on holiday, and someone else was overseeing the property. The change had no effect on us - we liked the apartment. After check-in, we noticed a lot of sand in places. There was so much sand on the master bed cover that we took it outside to shake it off. We did the same with a chair.
A car is a necessity when staying here. We never saw public transportation, and even the drive to Florence was 30 minutes. We would choose to stay at Poggio Capponi again, if ever in the area. It was charming, and we liked the location.
