Great Cats World Park across the road! Oregon caves nearby. This was far more convenient than staying in Grants Pass which made the trip convenient and stress free. The home was older but comfortable. I am gluten free and need to cook for myself when traveling. Although there is not a traditional kitchen, we did well with the microwave, toaster oven with baking capability, a refrigerator and portable double burner. Patty, the hostess, was communicative, helpful, and kind.

Lovely, Quiet, Private, Pleasant
Great place, a cosy beautifully decorated old house with (unheated) enclosed porches where there is an added bedroom, half bath, service porch with washer & dryer, laundry sink where dishes are washed and the refrigerator.

It's an old home in a rural area, be prepared for bugs and cobwebs. We got lost on our way because we were not given the full address or directions beforehand. INSIDE: The amount of space inside was great, lots of space for people to have privacy. The living room was cozy and great for family activities. Arrive early to start the AC, it was HOT when we first arrived. The back room was like a sauna. We all chose to sleep in the living room where the ac unit was. OUTSIDE: We saw a few wild animals and found bear prints on our car in the morning. That was exciting. The yard was not in any condition to play or enjoy. The grass was dry and the yard overall was bumpy and uneven. For me, I'm ok with the stay. Other more city types may find this place to be well out of their comfort zone.

Nature center, no smoking, no pets. Easy walk to the river. Locally trails available, giant redwoods or river rafting, 30 minutes away. Full year family membership for the Butterfly Pavilion is included! Instant booking is available but no same day bookings after 4pm. The Rusk Ranch Nature Center features a Butterfly Pavilion, Hummingbird Garden, Nature Discovery Play, Volunteer Days, Workshops, Youth Programs, Internships. Area attractions include the Oregon Caves National Monument, Siskiyou National Forest, Jet Boats in nearby Grants Pass and several lovely wineries offering tasting. Cottage overlooks the wildlife preserve. No smoking inside or out. Guests must agree to wildlife preserve guidelines.

Why they chose this property

The Nature Emersion program helps the center to support services for families and kids in our valley. The glamp tents and cottage are situated within the wildlife preserve area with a lovely view out over the meadow for wildlife watching. The atmosphere is serene and soothing. Guests can walk on the trail to the river and take a dip in the cool water. Swallows zip and dive in the morning sky over the meadow; deer graze with their fawns and Jackrabbits scamper about. Cottage is furnished with multiple beds and comfy furniture. Guests report much delight in being up close and personal with wildlife. Guests are asked to maintain a short list of guidelines before confirmation of booking to protect the wildlife preserve.

What makes this property unique

At the Rusk Ranch Nature Center, guests can have an up close and personal visit with nature and wildlife. We share our space with a WILDLIFE PRESERVE and have made some guidelines for guests to try and make that work:
Guidelines:
---PLEASE DRIVE 5 MPH everywhere on the property - PLEASE
---NO Smoking Vaping of ANY kind anywhere on the property, indoors or out. (you may smoke inside your vehicle with windows up). ($250 extra cleaning fee for smoking in cottage.)
---River access not available in winter. Please do not explore beyond your cottage area - Wildlife areas are off limits. In summer walk down the road and follow the arrows to the river. There is a map in the cottage.
---Pack it in, pack it out - please do not leave trash anywhere other than waste containers. All garbage in the INDOOR waste baskets.
---Please maintain a quiet respect both for our wildlife as well as our neighbors. No loud music. All quiet after 11pm.
---NO DOGS or pets. ($250 fee for bringing a dog onto the wildlife preserve.)
---After using the kitchen, please tidy up. When you check out, please remove sheets and pillowcases only from beds used and place in laundry room.
---NO FOOD LEFT OUTDOORS - Unless you want hungry forest creatures to visit! (Bears do roam around our neighborhood : )
---We are a nonprofit Nature Center and you are now a member and part of the Nature Service & Immersion Program at the center! The Butterfly Pavilion is available and free to guests 10-4 Tuesday through Sunday during the summer Memorial Day to Labor Day.
