About this property

Mid-Century Modern! Close to ski area, festival grounds & Blue Ridge Parkway!

Newly remodeled (Aug 2023) cottage in a central location between Maggie Valley and Waynesville, providing year-round easy access without needing a 4x4. Less than half a mile from the fairgrounds, 6 minutes from Tube World, and a short drive to Cataloochee Ski Area, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Cherokee. Across from a popular BBQ restaurant and pizza/Italian place, with numerous dining and shopping options within a 1-15 minute drive.

This cottage features Mid-Century Modern styled decor. Situated on a quiet street off the main road, in a well-maintained subdivision. Originally built in 1956 and renovated for modern comfort, the front offers mountain views and wildlife sightings, including elk, bears, bobcats, turkeys, deer, and more.

THE BEDROOM - Brand-new comfortable Serta queen sized bed, reading nook with two velvet chairs and table, personal fan, ceiling fan, portable ceramic heater, and Roku 4k TV. The blackout curtains and thick concrete walls ensure a restful stay. Two nightstands are each equipped with USB charging stations and lights.

THE LIVING ROOM - Velvet couch, midcentury coffee table, Roku 4k TV, art deco armoire filled with games, puzzles, local guides, and books, and a dining room table with seating for two.

THE KITCHEN - Thoughtfully re-designed with brand new appliances and all new cabinets/countertops. Beautiful chevron acacia butcher block counters really make it stand out! The cabinets, drawers, and shelves have been filled to the brim with every cooking essential you could need!

THE BATHROOM - Remodeled en suite bathroom with a new sink/vanity and toilet, and original 1956 tiled shower stall. The shower measures approx 2.5x2.5 ft. (29.5"x29.5") and has an entrance opening of 23.5". Please note the shower size for mobility considerations. (There is no tub available.)

Embrace the enchantment of the mountains throughout the year! Winter graces us with crisp days, abundant sunshine, and bluebird skies, occasionally blanketed by gentle snowfall. No dreary, gray winters here! As spring unfolds, the landscape comes alive with the blossoming trees, including dogwoods and redbuds, alongside the exquisite rhododendrons and mountain laurels. Summer invites you to bask in the beauty of the lovingly tended gardens surrounding the cottage, teeming with an array of colorful flowers, fragrant herbs, graceful ferns, and thriving vegetables. And when autumn arrives, the valley is ablaze with the renowned, vivid hues for which this region is celebrated. Be sure to embark on a scenic journey along the Blue Ridge Parkway to truly immerse yourself in the breathtaking spectacle.

Red Fern Cottage
We so enoyed our stay at The Red Fern Cottage. The place looked just like the pictures and was very clean and just the right size for the two of us. We even enjoyed the extra added treat and sweet note that was waiting on our arrival. We will definitely be coming back and staying again and will tell all our friends about the cottage.

Hello! Our names are Margeaux and Elijah, from Key Largo, Florida and Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. We have lived in Maggie Valley (just a few minutes from the cottage) for around 5 years now and absolutely love it! The Red Fern Cottage is our first home purchase and we are so excited to share it with you! Margeaux is a wedding and portrait photographer and Elijah manages a local spa and wellness center. We both enjoy the outdoors, hiking, camping, swimming, stargazing, foraging, etc. and we think Maggie Valley is the perfect place for all of that! Though Margeaux has been a business owner for 17 years with photography, this is our first time being vacation rental hosts and we strive to provide an excellent experience.

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We often have turkeys, rabbits, elk, bears, bobcats, and the usual squirrels and birds wandering through that you can watch right from the front porch. Our favorite spot is sitting in the rocking chairs just enjoying the view and the beautiful weather! Located right off the main road in Maggie Valley, it's a great location just minutes from everything you could want to do in the area! The main road is always plowed in the winter when there's snow/ice allowing for easy year round access, no 4x4 needed (unlike some of these mountain cabins). The neighbors are always happy to help if you need anything and couldn't be nicer!

What makes this property unique

The Red Fern Cottage was built in 1956 and is one of the original Leatherwood Cottages. It was used as part of the motel until around 2010 when they were split up and sold as individual units. We purchased it in Feb 2023 and have lovingly renovated it to bring it to modern times by putting in a new kitchen, appliances, LVP flooring in the bedroom, new tile in the bathroom, new toilet and sink, etc. It has been thoughtfully designed it for optimal comfort and efficiency, giving you everything you need in a small package! Our hearts were put into making the cottage be what we envisioned our little dream vacation home to be, adding tons of personal touches. Featuring unique decor and amenities, we strive to be more than just another generic vacation rental, the goal is to be your home away from home! Many of the neighbors who own the other cottages remember coming here with their parents as children and spending many wonderful summers at the cottages. We hope to continue that tradition with a new generation of guests making memories in Maggie Valley and we want The Red Fern Cottage to be a part of that! We are so proud of all our hard work and we hope you enjoy it as well!
