About this property

The Old Salt Cottage · Cozy Gateway Near Beach

Grab your flip-flops and bathing suit and let your beach vacation begin!

Located within walking distance to the private beach of the Old Salt Works Road Beach, the Old Salt Cottage has 3 beds, and 2 full baths, which will be the ideal landing pad for your friends and family. Bonus playroom with sleeper sofa and lots of games!
The Cottage accommodates up to 8 guests, with an open-floor concept, fully-equipped kitchen, and a sunroom. The outdoor space has a grill, shower, and a fire pit.

Start your vacation with an easy check-in process with an access code that will open the door to the Old Salt Cottage. On the first floor, you'll find a large living room, a galley kitchen, the sunroom, 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The basement holds the second living room/ playroom. The second floor holds the master suite, which is composed of a workspace and library off the staircase, the master bathroom and master bedroom.

FIRST FLOOR

The living room has a 50" flat screen Roku TV, which allows you to connect to all your streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc.)
A bar area makes the transition between the kitchen and the living room seamless. The kitchen space is fully-equipped with stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher, induction stove/ oven range, microwave, large fridge/ freezer. Most of the cookware needed for any home-cooked meals is available, including plenty of pots and pans and some baking goods. We even have a lobster pot and crackers set for the ones looking to take their New England vacation to the next level. A large oak table, able to hold 8 people, is located in the back of the galley kitchen.
On the other side of the living room , you'll find one of our favorite space in the house: the Sunroom. This multipurpose room can act as a dining room, an office space, a board game room or simply a space to enjoy a good book after a day at the beach. The sunroom has access to the exterior space which holds the BBQ deck and the backyard.

There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor, found on each sides of the Bar area. Both have walk-in closets with hangers and a luggage rack. There are some built-in shelves to store your folded belongings. Both have Queen Size green tea memory foam mattresses. We provide you with linens for the beds and a large towel/ washcloth per guest, per stay (if you need more, pack it up!).
The full bathroom is located adjacent to one of the bedroom. It has a tub/ shower combination, a toilet, a sink/ vanity and has plenty of storage for your health and beauty goods. We provide you with shampoo, conditioner and body wash in case you forget to pack yours.

SECOND FLOOR

As you walk up the steps, you'll find yourself in our library/ office space area. We make working from home as easy as pie, with high-speed internet and a comfortable desk and chair. The library carries a variety of books, which you are more than welcome to read or skim through during your stay.

The master suite is closed off from the office space. The master bathroom has a standing shower with glass doors, a toilet and a sink/ vanity with plenty of storage for your health and beauty goods. We provide you with shampoo, conditioner and body wash in case you forget to pack yours. The master suite has a large walk-in closet, with hangers and a luggage rack There are some built-in shelves to store your folded belongings.
The master Suite has a King Size green tea memory foam mattress. We provide you with linens for the bed and a large towel/ washcloth per guest, per stay (if you need more, pack it up!). A 50" Roku TV is located facing the King size bed, which will give you access to all your streaming services (Netflix, Hulu etc.)

BASEMENT

The secondary living room is accessible through the galley kitchen. Down the staircase, you'll find a large couch that doubles as a Queen sleeper sofa and 2 bean bag chairs, as well as a 43" Flat screen Roku TV and a PS4 set-up with 4 remote controls. We also have a wide variety of PS4 games for all ages. You'll also find some toys for kids, and plenty of board games.

EXTERIOR SPACE

The front yard is a large open lawn, perfect to toss a ball around, or catch a couple fireflies. There is a large and long paved driveway, that can comfortably holds 6-8 cars.

The backyard holds the firepit area, with 8 adirondack chairs and a couple cocktail tables... Just ideal for a smore's night! Please note we don't provide firewood for it. There are nearby gas stations that sell bundles of wood.
Our private outdoor shower can also be found in the backyard, which is perfect to get all the sand off after a fun day at the beach!

If you have any specific questions about the home prior to booking, feel free to contact us via the Airbnb platform, we'd be more than happy to answer them

Guests will have access to the entire indoor space, including the front yard, and the backyard. There are a couple of closets and the utility room that we use for storage. The doors to access those are locked. We ask that guests refrain from attempting to enter those spaces.

Ashley and François are one message away, if you need anything before, during and after your stay

As we are part of the Old Salt Works Road Association, you'll have access to our community beach. There is no parking at the beach, therefore walking down to it is the only way to access it. It is a 5 mins walk on mostly flat land, with steps leading down to it.
- Do NOT throw away in the toilet other than toilet paper and bodily fluids. We have beyond sensitive septic tank that doesn't tolerate anything other than that. Every time the septic gets back-up, we have a $650 bill from the plumber, which will be more than happy to redirect to you if this rule is broken. This information must be relayed with all guests staying at the Old Salt Cottage prior to the agreement and completion of the booking, and reminded throughout the stay by the lead guest.

LIST OF ITEMS THAT SHOULD BE DISPOSED IN A REGULAR TRASH CAN:
- Tampons, wipes, cups, pads or anything related to feminine hygiene
- Cotton pads, cotton balls, Q-Tips, floss, face wipes, make-up removing wipes or anything similar.
- Paper towels, flushable wipes (yes, even if it's says flushable on the box), dirty diapers, condoms, condom wrappers or anything similar.

If you have any doubts if an item other than bodily fluids and toilet paper go into the toilet, it probably doesn't.

The house looks so cute and cozy, but when you walked in and around, the house was up to date and spacious. All amenities and necessaries were provided for a wonderful stay, albeit way too short for such a lovely place.

Wonderful Property
We rented this with 7 of us - from a great grandparent down to a 4 month old baby. We were in town for a wedding and it made the perfect homebase for everyone. The house had everything we needed, it slept everyone very well (we even used the basement pull out couch which was fine for the 20 yr olds in the group) and the location was awesome. While we didn't really need a kitchen, it was very well equipped and seemed to have everything you would need. Everything in the house was super clean and new and nice. :) Highly recommend.

Great place to stay!
I can't say enough about how awesome the home was. The property was close to everything, very very clean and had large bedrooms and tons of areas to hang out. The basement was a plus. I highly recommend this property. We would stay here again.

College Friends
Had lovely gathering! Friends for 50 years…8 of us. The home was perfect and had all the amenities we needed! Bright, comfortable, accessible for us all…(one friend walks with a cane) Ashley, the host, was so helpful and easy to reach. The area is full of restaurants and a great museum in old Lyme! Beautiful area for long walks! Lots of room to spread out. Thank you, Ashley for sharing your home! Mary and friends
