About this property

A charming turn of the century farmhouse in the heart of Lake Country.

This modernized "Gathering Place" with a sprawling yard and plenty of sunlight will warm your heart and calm your soul. Built more than 200 years ago, this family homeplace still holds all of its comforts~ some parts quirky and some more predictable.

Nestled in what Southside Virginians call "lake country," it is the perfect spot to stay for your fishing tourney or boating weekend. It also makes for the perfect quiet country getaway. May even be a well suited longer stay option for traveling medical professionals or Microsoft contractors.

Situated at the Highway 58 by-pass (less than 3 miles from I-85), just outside the community of South Hill and near Clarksville, you'll have just a short drive to Lake Gaston, Kerr Lake (or Buggs Island), many local restaurants, fun shops and Occoneechee State Park. You are ~ give or take ~ 70 miles from Richmond to the North and Raleigh/Durham to the South. Clarksville is a quick 20 minutes west and South Boston and Danville are just a bit further down 58 from there.

This home features plenty of parking for your car and boat, plenty of play space in the yard, a lovely front porch, living room, sitting room, kitchen, master bedroom, office space and full bath downstairs with two more bedrooms and full bath just up the grand staircase. Fully appointed kitchen with microwave, Keurig coffee maker, KitchenAid mixer, electric stove, refrigerator w/ ice maker, Dyson vacuum, washer and dryer. Internet and TVs up and down with Roku. We have furnished the home with antiques, rescued pieces from family collections and some things new and modern. Eclectic and earthy, you cannot help but feel the easy spirit of this old home when you walk through the door.

We can't wait for you to get here!

About the host

One of us is a military brat, having lived in many different places. Those houses were made "home" ~ no matter the style ~ by a creative and patient mother who had much pluck when it came to packing up our earthlies and moving them o f t e n. The other of us was born and raised in Southside Virginia and, shy of the college years, has rarely ventured far from home. With a mutual appreciation for the goodness of HOME, it just seems natural to offer this special place as a soft place to land.

Why they chose this property

The Gathering Place is an extension of the rural "neighborhood" that has become our home. Sometimes you pick the place and sometimes it picks you! We feel strongly that when blessed with acquiring something unique, it is critical to steward that gift and pass it on ~ somehow. We hope that you will feel the good bones of this home as you settle in, just as we have a bit further down the road.
