Location
This house is located in Powder Horn Mountain in Deep Gap, NC. (845 Trout Lake Rd) We are about 20-25 mins to Appalachian State and main street in Boone but only about 13 miles. We are about 18 -25 miles to all the ski resorts or about 35 mins. Blowing Rock and Banner Elk are each about 35-40 mins from our front gate. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 7 miles away with an access point at the top of Elk Creek Rd on old 421. The closest grocery store is Food Lion located at the intersection of 421 and Old 421 across from Tractor Supply. There is RV camping and horseback riding near by at Leatherwood Mountain Resort. Elk Creek is just outside the front gate of Powder Horn and is a state stocked trout stream this is an anglers paradise make sure you get your fishing license but you will find it is some of the best fishing around! Local wineries and breweries abound including Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Booneshine Brewing, Grandfather Vineyards, Banner Elk Winery and so many others. So much to do!!!! Make sure to also check out the Lil' Hidden Creek Gem mine located about 1 miles past the back gate of Powder Horn. Call ahead and they will get mining buckets ready for the little ones!

Community
Powder Horn Mountain is a private gated community. (gate code provided on pdf in email after you book) All guests have free access to the community pool seasonally open May to September. Fitness center at the clubhouse, playground, fishing in three community ponds,(please bring your fishing poles!) No permit is necessary in the community but if you want to fish the state stocked Elk Creek you will need one. Miles of community hiking trails with well marked signage and a map in your binder. Make sure you check out the campground that sits on laurel creek and is the perfect spot for a night time fire pit and s'mores or a game of horseshoes. Maybe an afternoon picnic! There is a tennis court and half basketball court and new in 2022 a small 6 station frisbee golf course that you can access at the post office (bring your frisbees!) There are community paddle boats available for free on the lake by the clubhouse during the warmer months and they are first come first serve! You are welcome to bring your own kayak or canoe and set in at Penny Lake as well!

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very unhappy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house was not well built. The main floor was not level and we kept feeling off balance, as there were dips in the floor. The shower on the main floor was extremely slick and there was no safety grab bar or non-slip shower mat. There was only one restaurant in the area, "seafood" in the mountains and country cooking. We were not left a key for the fitness room, so that was unfortunate. We had 3 teenage grandsons with us and had to go into Boone for entertainment and a meal. This location was too remote for us.

Comfortable getaway in beautiful location
We really enjoyed our stay here. Unfortunately it rained the entire week we were there so we were not able to enjoy the pool and lake with complimentary boats (which were very nice!). We still really enjoyed being in the middle of such a beautiful forest, and going on nice day trips to Boone, Blowing Rocks and some of the farms in the area. Communication with the owner was great. Highly recommend!

A great stay
I stayed with family for a week at this lovely cabin. It was well stocked with kitchen utensils/items (like an instant pot). The game items (pool & air hockey) were enjoyed by my teens. The outdoor propane grill and propane fire pit were great to have as well.

Great place to stay
My family and I stayed for a weekend at this cabin. It fit our family perfectly. It was very clean and just like the pictures. The three floors provided us our own spaces. We love the game room and used it each night. Easy drive to Boone and Blowing Rock. We will definitely stay again!

Great stay!
Clean, beautiful home. Sue was a pleasure to deal with when we had some very minor “issues”. Well stocked and welcoming. Was a great space for our trip, and the beds were super comfy. Google maps did take us to the wrong place first so be sure to try and look at the map to find the intersection and go like that. Also when they say to go to the grocery first, do that, as the mountains are not well lit and wind a bunch so it’s a bit scary for inexperienced drivers like us at night. Definitely worth staying here and will be back, I’m sure. Ample space, amazing ambiance and couldn’t have asked for a better first mountain experience
