The space
This incredibly romantic rock, straw bale, and adobe carriage house is truly a unique space located on our historic property. This Carriage House is the original carriage to our 1884 historic adobe manor, with stunning views of the Ortiz and Cerrillos Mtns and the Village of Cerrillos. Hand-troweled Venetian plaster compliments locally quarried handsome stonework and eclectic up-cycled furniture with incredible art. Queen bed with high thread count cotton sheets and bedding, and low voltage top-of-the-line, heated mattress pad makes for a luxurious stay. Chandelier opulence, velvet couch, and antique wood stove are perfect for relaxing or working. There is a hot tub on the property open all year. We are not responsible for the hot tub not working due to cleaning or appliance issues during your stay, no discounts will be given. This unit has a Private patio, large, walk-in rock shower, a charming well stocked eat-in kitchenette/ work space and has a lovely view of the gardens. The kitchen includes pots, pans, dishes, mini fridge, two burner stove top, convection/toaster oven large enough for a chicken, kitchen utensils, olive oil, salt, pepper, hot sauce, and your choice of multiple coffee pots. We supply our own farm fresh eggs, Organic: milk, butter or olive oil, coffee, tea, hot cereal, fruit, onions, shallots, garlic when available and spices for you to enjoy breakfast your way. We offer a Host Bar w/ local chocolate, jerky, snacks, and our own Mad Hatter CBD beverages for you to purchase. A private shaded patio ( is under construction in between guests as we flagstone) the property also has an additional day bed, and many private gardens with tables & chairs that look onto our sweet orchard and views of the Cerrillos Hills State Park that adjoins the property. Our hot tub has perfect views of the Milkyway. There is a fire ring ( under host supervision, and only in the winter), plenty of outdoor lighting at night to coax you outside to the multiple patios to listen to the coyotes and owls and enjoy a serene getaway from city life, that is walkable to restaurants, horseback riding, hiking, biking, and shopping and only 4 miles from Madrid. Enjoy Free WiFi, you won't have cell service here, but you can make calls and receive texts with wifi calling and stream once you're logged in. 1 Hour to ABQ airport. 15 minutes to Santa Fe Airport. 1 hour to Ski Santa Fe lift. 35 minutes to Santa Fe Plaza. Ideal for hiking or biking the Cerrillos Hills State Park with over 3000 acres of trails or walking the Galisteo River. As artists our home reflects the love, and respect we share for this historic and magical place we use only sustainable and biodegradable cleaners and shampoo as our gray lines feed the birds and gardens, we use recycled paper products, avoid one-time use plastic and paper products, we compost all food waste to our chickens that you leave behind in the compost bin, and then fertilize our gardens and subscribe to wind energy. We do not implement ANY pesticides, so if you are intimidated by a cricket this may not be right for you.. This adobe, rock building does not have AC, stay cool by opening the windows at 9 pm and closing them at 9 am, it will maintain a lovely temp on its own. We thank you for choosing a sustainable lodging and appreciate your thoughtfulness for our planet and ask that ALL Toilet Paper Products be deposited in the lidded trash can and NOT the toilet. Also, please we do not charge a cleaning fee, to avoid a cleaning fee we ask all guests to wash their dishes and leave the space tidy. Pets are not allowed in this unit but we can accommodate pets in our other listing, The Romanti Casita.
Guest access
Free parking at our house, use the middle space for Guest 2 there is a sign that says Guest 2. Our property is open to guests to enjoy all of the patios and gardens. There is a BBQ.
Other things to note
Our historic adobe manor is located on a large property. The carriage house has 2 units, both are rock, adobe and strawbale with hospitality walls on top of the original rock and adobe walls to prevent any noise or vibration and to ensure privacy and peacefulness. Sustainability is important to us, we subscribe to wind generated power, use environmentally safe cleaners, purchase 100 % recycled paper goods and compost food scraps to our chickens. We ask that no paper, including toilet paper is placed in the 1/2 gallon flush toilet to avoid issues. All guests are required to wash their dishes and tidy up before check out, we do not charge a cleaning fee to keep our space affordable, so, to avoid an additional cleaning fee please leave the space in the condition you found it. We strive to create a restful retreat for our guests full of love and creativity, enjoy!

A piece of paradise in Los Cerillos
We spent one night in the carriage house, but could have stayed a week! Jill and Thomas were exceptional hosts. It is truly special to spend a night somewhere that has been someone's passion project for years. From the handmade structures, to the gardens and art throughout the property, you can feel the intentionality with which Jill and Thomas' live their lives. Can't wait to stay for longer!

So cute and quaint
Needed to get away. Tucked into a cute property. Owners were super nice. Would definitely stay again. I understood the no flushing paper products. I couldn’t help but think how a cheap bidet might make the place even more eco friendly.

Country stay
Enjoyed the nighttime sky and country feel of this rustic stay. Check out the mine shaft restaurant down the street if you get hungry! Make sure your car is ready for little dirt roading!

My husband and I have lived here for almost 30 years. My husband is a fine artist and I am a writer of murder mysteries. We love to travel and lived in Costa Rica while raising our daughter who is also a writer. We enjoy bocce in the orchard and great meal with friends and a sunset. We love living in a small town, our guests add to the community.

Why they chose this property

My husband and I moved to New Mexico to make art and live peacefully. The sounds of coyotes, and the bright Milky Way above make this beautiful old house and property a special and unique residence.

What makes this property unique

Our Historic property is unique, built in 1884 the main house is adobe/ Victorian and our Guest Carriage House is Adobe and Rock, nestled against The Cerrillos Hills State Park. My husband and I have created sustainable pollinating gardens and private patios that are an oasis and respite from the high desert chaparral. We look onto the Historic Territorial Village of Cerrillos and have amazing views of the surrounding Galisteo River Basin. Walking distance to shopping and food, you can enjoy live music and wonderful food or walk to Broken Saddle Outfitter for a sunset horseback ride through the Cerrillos Hills State Park, located adjacent to our fenceline. The Cerrillos Hills State Park offers hiking and mountain biking through out its 3000 acres of trails. Our home is a life project, please enjoy!
