Private but not isolated, Second Wind Cottage is located on Mahone Bay just off the Lighthouse Route on Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore. This idyllic spot is not only a perfect place for relaxing, taking walks, or gazing at the ocean, but also an ideal home base for exploring some of the best that Nova Scotia has to offer.
Cappuccino and fresh baked scones await you at the cafes in the picturesque town of Mahone Bay just 8 minutes away. There, and in the nearby towns of Chester and Lunenburg you can enjoy the delightful shops, markets, restaurants, museums, galleries, concerts, summer festivals and maritime adventures that make the South Shore a favourite destination for visitors year after year.
Head to one of the glorious nearby beaches or explore the biking and hiking trails. (Access to the Trans Canada Trail is just a mile away.) The ocean kayaking is unbeatable among Mahone Bay's many islands and up Martins River. (Bike and kayak rentals are available in the area.)
The full-service town of Bridgewater is only 20 minutes away.
An hour's drive in any direction has new vistas and entertainments. Head north to the Bay of Fundy for the highest tides in the world and explore the country towns and villages of the beautiful Annapolis Valley or go east to visit the lively, historic port city of Halifax with its many attractions. Stop off at Peggy's Cove along the way. Or set your sights South West along the Lighthouse Route for a shore drive, a ferry ride, some spectacular beaches and perhaps go a bit further to visit the historic towns of Liverpool and Shelburne.
The cottage has lots of information and maps to help you plan your visit and we are always available to share our favourite places!
It is all here waiting for you at Second Wind!

Ask a questionAbout Sally
In 2006 we were finally able to move permanently to Nova Scotia after years of visiting. We love it here and love to share the beauty of our province with visitors. We take great pleasure in maintaining a clean, comfy, convenient cottage - the kind of place we ourselves would be delighted to find on our travels. A retired Museum Educator, I am also an artist. This place and its people are a tremendous source of comfort and inspiration for me.
Sally purchased this cottage in 2010
Why Sally chose Mahone Bay
Second Wind is on the ocean, with beautiful views. It is quiet and private with a pleasant outdoor area that borders on a little brook that feeds into the ocean. The neighbourhood is mainly full- time residents and they welcome our visitors warmly. Just 500 meters along the road there is a community boules court (there is a boules set at the cottage). You can easily launch a kayak and paddle along the coast and up Martin's River. There are countless nearby attractions, towns, beaches, hiking/biking trails and coastal drives - it is a wonderful spot to stay awhile!
What makes this cottage unique
a wonderful spot to relax and a great location from which to make day trips along the South Shore, up to The Bay of Fundy or in to Halifax.
