About this property

Two Private Islands, Super Quiet Part Of Lake, Yet Close To Action

Please take note that our cottage is on 2 private islands. There is one 3 bedroom main cottage and 2 smaller sleeping cabins. The main building is open 3 seasons, however the 2 sleeping out buildings are only in use July and August. As such in spring (May-June) and fall (Sept-Oct) our maximum occupancy is 8 people.

Also in order to rent our cottage at least one person in your group must have a valid boating license (PCOC.) This person must be capable of driving a small outboard boat. A copy of this PCOC must be provided before confirming the rental. There is no taxi service to deliver you to our islands.

The main cottage was built in 2010, open, airy, close to water on all sides. You feel like you are on a boat from all rooms. Many large mature trees and wildlife. Cottage beautifully appointed with: antiques, pine interior, art, stained glass, open cottagey-kitchen, large open living/dining, awesome for entertaining.

Bedrooms are large, beds are good quality, linens and towels provided, kitchen is fully stocked, spices provided. Outdoor seating for sun-downers, charcoal and propane BBQs. Large outdoor picnic table where most dinners are eaten. A swing and a hammock.

Privacy galore. Your pets are welcome. Breezy in evenings but out of the wind and out of the boat traffic, few bugs in summer.

Lots of boat docking. Comes with one canoe. Motor boats can be rented from Kawartha Park Marina or Peel Marine. Islands are fairly level and low to the water, thus easy for older guests or any challenged at walking, yet I would not say wheel chair accessible.

A wood stove has been installed in the living room and the cottage is fully insulated, so it is suitable for shoulder season rental. Fishermen, writers, readers, poet and those wishing the quieter side of cottage country are all welcome!

Swimming is good and deep off the north island dock.

Bunkie on north island is 100 yrs old and very original, duck when you enter the door! King bed there. There is no bathroom on this island.

Bunkie on main island has queen bed, close to main cottage.

Main building is 1800 sq ft, with 3 huge bedrooms. The master BR has king bed and 2 piece ensuite, bedroom #2 has a queen and 2 twins. bedroom #3 has kid quality bunk beds plus a twin. Building is insulated, all bedrooms have ceiling fans, it remains cool on hot days.

Bathroom down has claw foot tub and hand held shower (not a stand up shower) and decorated with Turkish tiles. There is an outside shower.

Very close to heritage sites and buildings of Association of Stony Lake Cottagers. During July and August only, this includes: Juniper Island Store (quick meals, penny candy, ice creams, drinks etc,) Stony Lake Yacht Club (junior sailing program, tennis courts, racing on weekends,) a pavillion (for movies and square dancing weekly,) swimming lessons, canoeing lessons, masquerade and historic recently rebuilt government dock with a pagoda that goes back to steam boats and long dresses. It just goes on and on. Really must be seen to be believed.

Boat access only. Parking for one car is provided with the rental at Dunford's Landing.
Additional cars are charged $10/day and payable in cash to landing owners. There is also a boat launch for a small cash fee. Access point is best from Dunford's Landing. There is a washing machine. There is no dishwasher. There is wifi, at no added cost. Cell phones work here. there is no landline anymore.

Lovely experience for friends get-together
The place is dreamy! The main cottage is beautifully decorated and had nice furniture. The master bedroom is really nice! The kitchen is well equipped. The dishwashing was a bit stressful because we wanted to ensure we don't clog the drain and keep the sink very clean. Overall, it was a lovely stay and I would like to go back when the weather is nice.

About the host

We are a family of 5, we live in BC. Cottaging at Stoney Lake goes back to Pam's grand parents, in the 1940's. Our children have spent all their summers at the lake. They are now at an age where they are moving on with their own lives and we feel that we have time at our fabulous place to share.

Why they chose this property

The property is special because of its on Stoney Lake first of all. Then its privacy, views in all directions, wonderful buildings, its location in a very quiet part of the lake and proximity to all the action on Juniper Island.

What makes this property unique

Stoney Lake, simply is unique. It's community is special, many generations old, heritage and conservation minded. The islands are tranquil and lovely, whether you want to join in the action at Juniper Island or not!
