About this property

Ocean views, walk to beach from Pairc An Dreolin on The Ring of Kerry.

Pairc An Dreolin (Field of the Wren) is the perfect "home base" to explore Caherdaniel and the surrounding area. From here you can easily visit Cahersiveen, Port Magee, Valentia Island, Skellig Islands, Ballinskelligs, Waterville, Sneem, Kenmare, and Killarney. From our home you can walk down to Rath Beach and spend the day in our kayaks or take a 10 minute drive to Derrynane Beach where you can rent boats or surf! If you are a hiker there are miles of trails to follow on the Kerry Way which you can pick up right in town. Golfers can test their skills at the Waterville Links Course, Parknasilla Golf Club, Ring of Kerry Golf Club, or Kenmare Golf Club. For history enthusiasts visit Staigue Fort, a medieval fortress or go to the Daniel O'Connell House and Gardens in the Derrynane National Park to learn more about "The Liberator." You will also find shops with items made from local artists, restaurants and of course pubs! After a long day of beaches and sightseeing stop at our local pub, The Blind Piper for a pint or come back home and have a cup of tea or a cocktail on the patio and take in the stunning views from our 75 acres overlooking Kenmare Bay.

Jerry's family has owned our farm for over 100 years and we built Pairc An Dreolin in 2001. There are 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths, 4 rooms are ensuite. The master has a king, 3 bedrooms have queens, and one has two single beds. The two rooms upstairs share a very large Jack and Jill bathroom and the room with 2 singles also has toys, books, and movies for children. There is a reading nook on the landing with a sleeper sofa. Downstairs there is an open plan living room with fireplace, kitchen, and dining area, as well as a mudroom with washer/dryer. The kitchen does have a dishwasher and a full sized fridge! The main attraction however are the stunning views and peaceful atmosphere and is why people come to this part of Ireland.

Amenities include: Wifi, satellite television, DVD collection, board games, hair dryers, washer and 2 dryers, travel cot, high chair, kayaks, outdoor shower, gas BBQ, peat for fireplace, outdoor seating, all linens including beach towels, and onsite parking.

Rates include all utilities, deposits, and cleaning fee. Renters insurance to be purchased through Homeaway in case of damages.
Minimum $260/night, 3 night minimum or $1275/week off peak season
$1475/week, Saturday to Saturday, peak season June 8, 2019 - August 31st 2019

Fun Fact! Caherdaniel is in the International Dark Sky of the low levels of light pollution, people come from all over to stargaze! Now you can follow The Walk of the Planets right in Caherdaniel!
Did you know? "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was filmed on the Skellig Islands? You can take a boat tour out to the islands and see where it all happened or you can hike up our mountain and see it from there!

We have hosted for 7 years and have many families returning again and again because our house was designed to accommodate 10 people comfortably. There is plenty of space to get away and read a book and plenty of entertaining space for everyone to gather together for a meal, movies, or games. Please feel free to roam our acres and acres of land from which you can see across Kenmare Bay to Cork on one side and Derrynane Beach and Skellig Islands on the other. We have 2 kayaks, one single, one double which are available to you so you can paddle out and explore the shoreline. On a nice day you can paddle around the point and pull up to Carroll's Cove Beach Bar and grab some lunch!

We look forward to helping you make your Kerry holidays unforgettable,
Heidi and Jerry O'Grady

Well equipped property in great location
Very convenient to quiet beach so we didn’t need to venture far. Brilliant to have use of the kayaks, body boards and life jackets. Handy shop nearby. Lovely location. Very near beautiful Derrynane beach which was great for a walk in the rain! Definitely recommended.

Fantastic house and location!
Our party of 4 adults and 4 kids stayed for 7 nights during July 2021 - we had a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back! We all loved the house, the outside space, the kayaks and the nearby Rath Beach. It's a wonderful house - spacious, clean and very well appointed throughout and the view from the front of the house is absolutely breath-taking. The house is situated on the side of a hill on a quiet road - so is very private and tranquil. Communication with the owners was swift and easy - we had an all round excellent experience.

Jerry was born and raised on this farm in the house next door. That house had no plumbing so in the early 70s his parents sold that piece of property and built a modern home just down the hill which is also in the family. I (Heidi) am originally from Arizona but was living in Dallas when I met Jerry who had immigrated to the States in 1985. We got married in 1994 and moved to London for Jerry's job and were able to go to Caherdaniel and visit his mom quite frequently. His dad had passed and left the farm to Jerry and we decided to build our own house so that we could come and go with plenty of room as our family grew and for other family friends to come and stay with us. We have been taking our kids ever since and are hoping to spend more and more time there as we get closer to retiring. We are now living back in Arizona and look forward to going over every summer to get out of the heat!

Why they chose this property

Inherited

What makes this property unique

We have 75 acres of rugged mountains and beautiful views that we never get tired of. We built the house knowing that when people came to visit they would be coming from long distances so we knew they wouldn't be staying for just a couple of days. We had nothing but space and decided to build it so that people could stay for a week or more at a time and have their private rooms to retreat to, but also have the openness in the living area for everyone to gather for dinner, movies, games, or just to chat. Over the years we have added amenities for our convenience and comfort, including a shed, BBQ, kayaks, outdoor shower, outdoor furniture, and a second American sized dryer. This is still a semi-working farm so we do have some cattle roaming and they do tend to come down to the gate to see who is around.
We never intended to rent the house out for vacations, but it seemed a shame for it to sit empty for so many months in the year so we decided why not let other people enjoy it?
We have been renting it for 7 years now and have been very lucky to have guests who respect that this is our family home and take great care of it so it has been a wonderful experience. We have many groups who keep coming back again and again!
