About this property

Rural Villa - Fantastic Views - Large, Private Pool - Rustic and Modern

Cortijo Alba Rosa is a warm and inviting traditional-style farmhouse with a spectacular vantage over the Lecrín Valley and unforgettable mountain and valley views. Set in four acres of private land, but close to village’s amenities, the farmhouse has four bedrooms (sleeping 8) and 3 bathrooms, a family-sized pool, and several outdoor areas for dining and lounging. Thanks to the valley’s unique microclimate and the farmhouse’s full central heating, this hilltop retreat is an ideal spot for summer vacations, while equally suited to winter breaks and springtime walking holidays. And, as the name suggests, exquisite sunrises and sunsets are as good as guaranteed.

A region to explore … or stay closer to home

From its vantage point a couple of kilometres above the three rural villages that form El Valle below, Cortijo Alba Rosa provides the perfect base from which to explore. The sandy beaches of the pre-Roman fortress towns of Almuñécar and Salobreña on the Costa Tropical, and the World Heritage Site of the Alhambra in Granada are reached in under 30 minutes. The magnificent countryside, spas and mountain treks of Las Alpujarras are on your doorstep, and the acclaimed coves of Nerja and ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada are easily reached within an hour. However, if this all sounds too taxing, you can always enjoy a long lunch under the farmhouse’s wisteria-covered pergola, lounge by the 10m x 5m pool, or explore the extensive grounds, where you can pick seasonal fruit from the farm’s olive, lemon, orange, fig and pomegranate trees. With an award-winning vineyard and restaurant at the top of your street, sometimes staying nearby is the better option!

Cortijo Alba Rosa – a magical paradise

As you walk to the front of the property, you’ll spot the summer house set among the farmhouse’s tranquil arid and tropical gardens. With its own kitchenette and incredible views of the valley, it’s perfect for a special dinner, or just to unwind with a book or cheeky sundowner. Continue on to enter the house through its impressive north-facing Moorish door, set in its own courtyard, into the living room. Set all on one level, the farmhouse is ideal for families with young children and people with restricted mobility. However, you’ll still get all the privacy and peace you’ll need for a good night’s sleep, as the bedrooms are separated from the living and dining areas.

The farmhouse’s east wing houses a well-equipped kitchen with marble worktops, a dining room with family-sized table and fireplace. The utility room is tucked behind the kitchen and offers side access to the property, where you can find fresh herbs alongside a wood store.

Upon entering the living room, your eyes will immediately be drawn to the 4m tall full-length windows for year-round enjoyment of the views across the surrounding countryside from two facing sofas. The vaulted, double height ceiling is traditionally made with local wooden beams. This old Andalusian trick helps keep the farmhouse cool in the summer, while the full central heating ensures it doesn’t get cold in winter.

The west wing is where you’ll find the north and south-facing double bedrooms and their respective ensuite bathrooms. Two further bedrooms (one double, one twin) are accessed through double doors into a cleverly hidden connecting corridor, and they share the third bathroom. These rooms offer a more private space, making them ideal for people with young children or those who desire greater privacy or peace.

The farmhouse is secluded and private in a privileged position on the hillside. After turning from the road you travel under couple of kilometres (a mile) down what was once the road between Granada and the Costa Tropical. Today it is a well maintained lane used by the local olive farmers. This is authentic, unspoiled Andalusian living at its best.

The farmhouse’s water supply comes from its own natural spring, and with a powerful solar energy system, you can experience true off-grid living.

Great vacations that were enabled by a great accommodation
The place is marvelous, sometimes pictures published are taken in a certain angle to flatter the place, with this villa, the photos that you see merely depict the place. The house was great and a marvelous view! It has all the commodities required. Yes the place is warm, that is what you expect to Andalusia but given the location, the wind made it pleasant. Location is great in between Granada and the sea side, it allows to visit very conveniently both, not to mention the proximity of Sierra Nevada escape road starting just 20 minutes away from the house. Great communication was in place from the booking up to departure with Matthew the host and Jen who is doing the local coordination. Definitely a place to go back!

Stunning location
Superb villa in a stunning location, beautifully appointed with everything you could want. Owner was extremely friendly and helpful, giving us lots of info regarding walks and cycle hire, and the property manager was also very friendly and full of useful info on local shops and ameneties etc. Am planning to return already!

Amazing place, definetly recommend!
Besides the amazing location, close to granada city and the beach, the home was perfect. There are so many facilities that it feels like a family home instead of a rental. Also, the communication is super clear and kind. These are good peope and would definetly book again!

Heaven on Earth!
My husband and I just returned from spending the month of May in Cortijo Alba Rosa and loved every minute. This is a magnificent property! The view, gardens and surroundings are spectacular and the house is lovely, comfortable and well equipped. It is also very dog friendly. The pictures and video are quite accurate but the feeling once you are there is even better! The owner was very helpful before and during our stay and the house manager couldn't have been more caring while we were there. The location is secluded but within a half hour or so to Granada, the mountains and the sea. You do have to be comfortable driving on steep, narrow roads but assuming you are a confident driver (kudos to my husband), this is the perfect retreat in Southern Spain. We miss it already.

Pleasant countryhouse in beautiful scenery
Cortijo Alba Rosa met all our expectations. The instructions for accessing the property and living and maintaining the house were thorough. The house was well suited for a stay of three generations (eight people). All the functions of the house worked well and met the requirements of normal home life. We really enjoyed our two weeks holiday at Cortijo Alba Rosa.

About the host

Hosted by Matthew Lindley

Host profile image
I bought this very special farmhouse to share with my family. We're four siblings, parents, partners, and children. We've found ourselves living all over the world, but we love spending time together and now we have the space to do it.

We love being here, it's always good to be together! There is always something to do, even if that's only lazing in the sun (which we've done at Christmas and New Year!).

Why they chose this property

As soon as we saw it we fell in love. My dad and I looked for over 4 years to find our perfect slice of heaven. Success! The Lecrin Valley means happiness, and the views from the farmhouse confirm this. I love a great view and from the Cortijo Alba Rosa you have them in every direction! I find myself getting up early just to see the dawn and while I hate seeing a day end here, a sundowner with a glass of wine from the local bodega is pure heaven. If you fancy a good book before you arrive or while you are here read 'driving over lemons' by Chris Stewart, its all about his experiences in the Valley .

What makes this property unique

Peace and tranquility not far from the highway
Views that take your breath away
Space for all the family to enjoy multiple activities
Enormous Moroccan table under a canopy of wisteria. Great for summer and winter dining
Close to Alhambra (book ahead), skiing, beach, and all country pursuits
Large pool, with great views
Amazing night sky (who knew there were so many stars?), sunsets and sunrises (there's a reason why its called the Alba Rosa)
