About this property

la maison Junas: handsome village house with garden

A handsome house in the heart of the small and active village of Junas, near Sommieres. 230m2 in total, 5 double bedrooms (one with en suite bathroom), with high ceilings and stone floors, two with balconies looking over the village; 1 twin bedded and 1 room with bunk-beds. There are 3 floor matresses for 2 more people if you need them. Modern kitchen, huge 36m2 living room with 12-seater dining table, breakfast room. Large courtyard garden for meals outdoors or sunbathing, surrounded by stone farm buildings; table tennis table in garage. Wooded walks, cycle tracks nearby.

This beautiful and spacious old stone house is ideal for two or three families or a group of friends to enjoy a quiet holiday. Sleeps up to 17 people: 5 double and 2 twin bedrooms and 3 mattresses on the floor if you need them. We can often be flexible about minimum stays and check-in / check-out times - just send us a message to ask.

Please be aware that the Junas village festival takes place for three days in early July - lots of fun but VERY noisy. Check with us before booking around these dates.

The house has high ceilings throughout, downstairs there is a newly fitted modern kitchen equipped with fridge-freezer, oven, induction hob, dishwasher and microwave. The huge 36m2 living-room has a massive fireplace, sofas and chairs, a big extending dining table which seats 12-14 people.

Sliding doors open onto the terrace and large courtyard garden.

On the ground floor, there is a separate dining room, and a large formal double bedroom with large ensuite bathroom (with washing machine and tumble dryer). There is an additional shower room downstairs.

An grand stone staircase leads upstairs to four further stone-floored double bedrooms, all with views over the red-tiled rooftops of Junas. Two have their own balconies. There is one twin-bedded room and one further room (off one of the double rooms) with two bunk-beds - ideal for children. The main bathroom with walk-in shower is accessible by all rooms. Cots and child beds are available - just let us know.

There is a table-tennis table in one of the outbuildings (please don't go into the others).

The house was built in 1850 and belonged to one of Junas' oldest families and has been extensively restored and renovated in the recent years. Built in stone, the stone house stays cool in the hot summer months; if you visit during colder weather there is central heating throughout and you can have a fire in the huge fireplace in the main sitting room.

This house is really a hidden gem!
Our stay has been idyllic in any possible way! The property is amazing: cleanliness, location and disposition of rooms and bathrooms are absolutely perfect, and everything corresponded to our expectation and to the advertisement on the website. We were 10 in total (6 adults and 4 kids). The house has all the charm of a typical historic maison provencale, both in the structure of the building and in the furniture chosen with a great taste and attention to details (old framed pictures, fireplaces, pottery, decorated ceilings..): the inner courtyard is lovely for kids to play safely and for adults to chill and relax after a day out exploring the area; each night we enjoyed dinner under a blanket of stars and soft candlelight with music in the background thanks to the Bluetooth amplifier in the house. All bathrooms are recently renewed, and so is the modern kitchen – not to mention that it is with no doubt the best equipped kitchen ever seen so far in a rented property! Check-in and check-out went smooth thanks to all the attention of Justin and Patricia who helped us with the keys and the handover of the property. The location also comes with a boulangerie (bakery) 1 min walk from the house - for amazing pastries and warm, fragrant bread in the morning! - plenty of parking spaces around, small farmers market in the village square every Tuesday morning and a lovely village itself, plus all others in the area (Sommieres above all is a fairytale village!). We would have stayed there forever!

Merci.

We are an English-French couple; we live in London where our English family are; we spend time in our house in Junas to be near our French family and to enjoy the south of France.

Why they chose this property

This is a wonderful house in which to spend time with friends and family. Our best times here are large family meals outside in summer and in the salon in winter.

My favourite day in Junas is Saturday: you can walk through the countryside in 45 minutes to Sommieres to have oysters, delicious food and rosé at the market.

What makes this property unique

We are so happy to have been able to play a part in restoring this beautiful house to its original splendour. It's rare to find a large house which can accommodate a large group of family and friends together, and we have spent some very happy times here, including our own wedding last year.
In the hot summer, the house stays cool and is close to a number of beautiful walks through the garrigue. In winter, the huge fireplace in the living room makes for cosy evenings.
