Our historic Manor House (circa 1856) was completely renovated and refurnished in 2004. From its hilltop location, you enjoy commanding views of the Southwest Mountain range and of our vast pastures. Children and adults alike are transported far from the world of the city to life on an old Virginia estate, immaculately restored, situated on land once owned by President James Madison, whose Montpelier home is just on the other side of the mountain.
This is a wonderful place to gather several generations of family in a locale where all ages will be contented. Adults savor the peace and quiet, the views, the local historic sites, museums, fine restaurants, wineries, antique shops and art galleries, scenic drives and quaint villages. Children are endlessly fascinated by having 600 acres on which to run wild, explore nature, skim rocks and fish in ponds, play in our swimming hole, watch horses and cows and wildlife, peer down old wells, smell manure, chase lightening bugs and frogs, and have rural adventures of all sorts. If you can get them off the farm, they can trail ride on a neighboring farm, go rafting, see UVA, visit three former Presidents' homes within a 30 mile radius, or go to a bull-riding event, horse show, or other local summer event.
It is no exaggeration to describe Wolf Trap and its environs as idyllic. Spend some time on a Virginia estate, and see why so many celebrities and jet-setters who could choose to live anywhere have chosen this part of rural Virginia for their country retreats.
We have 6 additional vacation rental homes on the farm. The Servants' Cottage is 30 yards behind the Manor House and sleeps up to four (see vrbo #442721). The Pond House is 150 yards away and sleeps up to 7 (see vrbo #90883). There is also a Barn Apartment, the Milker's Cottage, Baldy's Retreat and the Cox Mill House, plus three glamping tents.
