About this property

MADSEN RETREAT B&B Penguin - a boutique 4 star experience- Whole First Floor

Madsen Retreat is a large Mediterranean style home located in the beautiful seaside town of Penguin in NW Tasmania - population about 5000. It is elevated with vista views of the Bass Strait and just a quick 4 minute walk to the shops, post office, cafes and beach. Madsen Retreat is situated on 1000 sq. m of elevated landscaped grounds and every room has a garden view as well as a sea view. It has bbq facilities, and rear sun deck and is pet friendly for dogs with its own outside kennel that can accomodate two small dogs or one large one. Our first floor suite of rooms are all 4 star quality and comfort with fine linens, stylish bedding, interior decor, plenty of storage and shelf space, ipod docks, mini bar, soft bathrobes in each room, iron and ironing board, dining room, sunroom and laundry facilities. We offer secure on site parking. We offer a continental breakfast for $15 pp and full cooked breakfast is offered for an additional $20 per person. Free WiFi throughout the house and smart tvs to allow you to stream online movies. Penguin sits between Ulverstone and Burnie (about 15 minute drive either way) and is just a half hour drive on Bass Highway from Devonport where the Spirit of Tasmania ferry comes in twice a day. We are located in NW Tasmania that has some of the most fertile and beautiful countryside in the world. NW Tasmania has some of the best roads and driving conditions you will ever have the joy of driving on and it offers superb views of country and sea all the way down the coastal route to Burnie and then to Stanley and Port Arthur and Edge of the World where you can look out at the Southern Ocean. The Tarkine Drive is a must if you are staying for more than a day. Our little town has two IGA stores, about 5 cafes and bakeries, a bank, a gallery (just opened), a Pharmacy, two Vets, a Newsagent, a Barber shop, a Service Station and a number of curiosity shops. If you want more choice, the drive up the coast to Ulverstone is one of the most beautiful coastal drives you will find anywhere.

About the host

Host profile image
Madsen Retreat is owned by Chris and Ting. We moved here from Sydney in December 2016. We operate a number of businesses. We wanted a change in lifestyle from the busy noisy Sydney to the tranquil and spectacularly beautiful NW of Tas. We purchased two blocks of land for this Retreat totalling 1100 sq meters and are developing it in 3 stages. The first stage is now completed being two King bed rooms with en-suite and sofa bed and the family suite that includes a queen bed room, a bunkbed room, common room space with ocean views, spa bath and separate toilet and shower.

Why they chose this property

The guesthouse is officially accredited as 4 star quality. It is spacious and as it is elevated it gives incredible vista views of the Bass Strait. It has beautifully kept lawns, has big back yard with courtyard where you can bbq and entertain, we are pet friendly with a small kennel out back, huge fully equipped mod kitchen, 4 spacious rooms , laundry and drying facilities, secure online parking and just 3 minutes walk from Penguin beach and esplanade. In cold weather you can light our fireplace and enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese/fruit platter. We also have a large sunroom big enough for a whole family to sit together and watch a movie on the big TV screen. Please note that a booking of the whole first floor suite DOES NOT give you automatic access to the downstairs kitchen and kitchen facilities. Access to and use of the kitchen and kitchen white goods and facilities is by direct negotiation with the owners and a daily use fee may be chargeable.

What makes this property unique

Close to beach, shops and bushwalks and just 20 minute drives to Burnie and Ulverstone and 30 minutes to Devonport. Perfect spot to stay as your base and plan day trips to destinations in the NW. Just 30 minutes from the Spirt of Tasmania ferry. If you ask us we can help you plan your day trips and even get you booked in with day tour companies and help you plan your itinerary. We also provide 3 bicycles for getting around Penguin. We are dog friendly as well.
