About this property

Fork Inn's Parrot House

Summary:
Forest perch deep in the forest. Nature lovers paradise with many walking trails, lake for fishing and boating.

9 beds (1 king, 2 queens and 6 singles) 4 bedrooms and a loft. Capacity is 12 . Pvt outside Hot tub & firepit. 2 offices. Amazing porches.

BASE PRICE IS FOR FOUR (4) PERSONS. There is a $40/person/night additional charge for more. The house is at the end of a long dirt road and sits atop a small hill. Surrounded by nature

The Space:
This historic property is the former home of Willie York of Big East Fork as well as the original and present keyboardist of the Jimmy Buffet Band.

The house is at the end of a long dirt gravel highway and sits atop a small hill. It’s surrounded by nature, so be sure you want to want to interact with real nature (insects, spiders, shy country mice etc) before you come.

Guest Access:
The house is at the top of a fairly steep hill at the end of a long dirt driveway. Four wheel drive recommended but not necessary. Only fours cars may park at the house. There is room for more at the bottom of the hill. Turn your car around before the evening so you can use your headlight to see the way out.

The Neighborhood:
Big East Fork Valley is a unique pristine watershed with miles of hiking trails, two lakes, and several ponds. The Center for Sustainable Stewardship and Big East Fork Farms are located on the 5-mile long country road with little traffic. Great for bike rides and leisurely walks. The dark sky allows for the best stargazing in the area. 6 miles from Leipers Fork and downtown Franklin.

Getting Around:
It's best to have a personal car but Uber and Lyft serve us. Bicycles are great to have and walking is superb.

Other Things to Note:
Please read the House Rules and note the required Trash Deposit Community Fee and how get the full fee returned by removing your own trash.

Interaction with Guests:
We live a couple of miles down the valley. Our concierge is also on-site to help you with everything you need. The lodging is VERY private and you need not see anyone else if you wish. A pair of stock tanks just across the road serve as refreshing pools in the warmer months. These are shared with other Fork Inn guests as we rent twelve other houses in Big East Fork Valley.

Beautiful house in the woods
This house is unique and gorgeous. The photos do not do it justice. There was plenty of room for our family of four plus a couple of overnight guests during our extended stay. The layout with the separate primary bedroom is great. The beds were very comfortable and we really enjoyed our visit. Wade was very friendly during check in and helpful throughout our month-long stay. Though the check in process/visit was a little lengthy after a long, tiring drive, it was also helpful to learn about the house and the area and I appreciate the effort that went into helping us get our bearings. There were a couple of maintenance issues during our stay but they were attended to promptly. There are definitely mice and a lot of bugs (to be expected based on the location) so if that's an issue for you, this house may not be the best fit. The driveway to the front door is very steep and requires 4-wheel drive. You can park under the house which is easier to access but you will have to carry your suitcases up a flight of stairs which may be an issue for some. There is no cell coverage at the house and we found the internet service to be very slow. (Definitely not enough speed for streaming video.) We did not use the satellite television. I did hear from the owner after our visit to say that he found the satellite wasn't working properly and was replacing the modem so hopefully that helps with the internet speed as well. There are a few small things that could be done to make the house even better. A towel hook and shelf for soap and shampoo for the outdoor shower would make this great feature even better. A comfy chair in the main bedroom would make this getaway spot even more of a sanctuary. The refrigerator door is extremely hard to open and should be repaired. Finally, making sure that the kitchen has all of the items needed for cooking a basic meal would be helpful. We purchased inexpensive measuring cups and spoons and left them for the next guests as we found these items missing. If you are planning to use the CSS amenities, be sure you understand exactly how this works and what is available beforehand. Some of the advertised activities were not available during our stay--which we learned after our arrival and making a donation to the CSS, which was a bit of a disappointment. The CSS website may not be accurate and up-to-date, so be sure to talk to someone first.

The Parrot House, Big Fort Resort.
Very nice house, the writing of how the property costs are… is vague. Mice droppings in the house and draws. We saw no mice though. Get ready to pay for this property. But very nice house near downtown Franklin, Tenn.

Our Nashville weekend
We really enjoyed the house, hot tub, privacy. The house was very beautiful, way off the road, and very roomy. No cell service but that was one of the best things about it. The care taker was very rude and in my opinion didn’t even try to make sure the house was up to par. He did everything but cus my guest’s out. Other than that our trip was exactly how we had planned.

Nature lover and Steward of Big East Fork Valley, I love taking early morning walks with my wife Lee Anne. I practiced medicine for twenty years as a surgical pathologist specializing in prostate cancer. Lee Anne still practices as a pediatrician. She is well qualified to take care of me!

Why they chose this property

This property appeals to nature lovers and those that appreciate quiet and natural open spaces. Walk along the long driveway and cross the street for the Center for Sustainable Stewardship and see the farm animals.

Horseback riding, personal chef, refrigerator stocking, yoga, and massage available by appointment. Watercraft and bicycles on loan from adjacent non-profit.

The best creek walk starts across from The Fork Inn (5528 Big East Fork Rd) at BEF mile marker 2.4 (McPherson Beach). Bring creek shoes.
