About this property

5-Bedroom Mountaintop Villa with Pool

Summary:
Wow! If you can find a finer mountaintop villa anywhere, book it. Casa Isla en el Cielo with Apartment in Potrero is a huge, gorgeous property, rightly named “Island in the Sky,” with a 3-bedroom main home, a 2-bedroom apartment, a beautiful pool and expansive views of the Pacific coastline below.

The Space:
The main home has 3 bedrooms, all with king or queen beds, each with its own big closet and bathroom. And there’s a fourth bathroom off the hall. The apartment, just downstairs from the main home and with its own ocean view, has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It just underwent a remodel from top to bottom, so everything there is brand-new. Even the bathrooms are elegant – some with double sinks, separate shower and tub, and fine stone work. The living room contains all-new furniture, including a blue-gray modular sofa, wooden tables and a giant TV. The dining area features a long wooden table, and beyond that is a quartz kitchen island. The immaculate kitchen has quartz counters, white cabinets, stainless-steel refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher. The home is air-conditioned but is also swept by mountain breezes that keep it cool, with lots of natural light and open space. Outside, the rear patio has new dining and lounging furniture, plus a barbecue. Past a landscaped area and down a stairwell is a large, newly renovated swimming pool with a coralline deck.

This property has three gated entrances, a 3-car parking garage and an on-site caretaker.

**The property generally does not allow animals or pets, this includes service and emotional support animals. For detailed information, please refer to the booking policy and/or house rules.**

Casa Isla en el Cielo with Apartment, Potrero, neighborhood

This estate is near the end of a 2-mile mountain road, mostly gravel but paved on steeper inclines. This mountainside is home to deer, monkeys, coatis and foxes. The road is accessible from downtown Potrero, where there’s a beach, grocery stores, restaurants and shops. And speaking of beaches, there are a dozen really nice ones within a short drive.

Adventure awaits

Your rental will be stocked with a welcome basket of coffee, coffee filters, salt, pepper, soap, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, paper towels, cooking oil and Costa Rica’s famous Salsa Lizano. Day trips to Rincón de la Vieja National Park, whitewater rafting or local cultural tours – we’re here to offer you unbeatable service! Click for more info about tours and activities.

We’ll be happy to provide free, competitive quotes for private rental cars, transport to/from the Liberia or San Jose airports, tours and activities. We are locals and can answer any questions you may have regarding this property and the surrounding area. We are here to make your next Costa Rican getaway unforgettable.

The Neighborhood:
Pacific Heights is a mountainside community in the hills above Playa Potrero with stunning ocean views. Look out on palm trees, lush gardens and the beautiful seascape, surrounded almost completely by frog-green hillsides. Mountain breezes make this hillside perch much cooler than the beach, and wild animals are frequently spotted here.

Drive down the road and you’re in Potrero, with easy access to three beaches (Potrero, Penca and Prieta), and many other beaches to the north and south. The Mediterranean-style village of Las Catalinas is nearby, as is the brand-new Marina Flamingo.

Offering easy access to three beaches (Potrero, Penca and Prieta), this town combines upscale lodging options with the charm of a traditional Costa Rican town (think central plaza with church, school and soccer field).
There are plenty of restaurants, shops and other conveniences, and the downtown area has two mini supers (convenience stores), as well as a commercial plaza with a coffee shop, a hairdresser and other businesses.
Some of the liveliest nightlife in the region can be found at Las Brisas Bar, right on the beach, though it’s normally hopping only on Wednesdays (Ladies’ Night).
Potrero has several nice housing developments with “Villagio” in the name, popular among Italians and other expats. You can find Italian gelato shops, Costa Rican sodas (small, affordable restaurants) and hotels in a range of prices (Pitaya Lodge, Bahía La Esmeralda, Hotel Isolina, Bahía del Sol).
Just to the south of Potrero lie all the attractions of Surfside, and to the north is a beautiful, hilly drive along the ocean, ending at the Mediterranean-style village of Las Catalinas. Potrero is within easy striking distance of several beaches, and it’s a great base to explore the entire region — for a sampler of both the high-end and the humble.

Getting Around:
Our agents will be happy to assist you with renting a car, giving you the freedom to explore the area where you want, when you want. For short drives to nearby towns or beaches, golf carts are another popular mode of transportation. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around in town or beyond.

We can arrange transfers to and from the airport. Rental cars can also be delivered to your property at no additional cost, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenery as our private van drives you here from the airport.

Taxis are available but can be a bit hard to find. Many locals use buses to get around, though there are a limited number of routes and times of day when you can catch them. Private shuttles can be a great option for traveling to nearby destinations, and many tour companies offer transportation to and from the tour. Our information brochure will provide you with useful information on local transportation options and points of interest, as well as contact information for taxis and shuttles.

Other Things to Note:
Special Places of Costa Rica is committed to protecting our properties and keeping up-to-date with short-term rental regulations, which is why you will be asked to complete our independent verification. Before your stay begins, you will need to verify your details with us to complete your booking. You will be contacted via email and/or text to complete the verification. You will also be given the choice between paying a refundable deposit or buying a non-refundable damage waiver. We suggest you buy the damage waiver as this protects you in case you cause accidental damage during a booking.

Fantastic Trip
The property was everything as advertised and more. The onsite host/caretaker Maikol was very helpful and really made everything easy. A couple tips for first timers to this area. Make sure you do your grocery shopping in Liberia before heading west to the house, groceries are a little scarce and alot pricier than in the city. Also, for some reason, Waze routing from the airport in Liberia will put you on a crazy two hour route. Use google maps instead for a 1 hour and 10 minute trip which is pretty good.

Amazing
This property was so beautiful that we said multiple times that we could have done none of the excursions and just stayed at the house and still have a wonderful time! The pictures do not do it justice - they are accurate, just not as wonderful as the real thing. There was patio furniture which I think I may not have seen in pictures and was pleasantly surprised. We left our floats behind, hoping at least a few families can get some use out of them. This was our first experience with an infinity edge, I felt that this one was safe for the humans, not so much pool toys (but I wasn't worried about the toys)! The house is about a 10 minute drive up/down a steep, curvy, and occasionally muddy "road" and we had one person with motion sickness, but after the first day he knew to take benadry before every outing. 4x4 needed, but I think that was a given, not just for the house. And the road was part of the fun of the experience! I think the ONLY thing that was not as expected was that the tub in the house master has extremely low water pressure so our 6/9 year olds were disappointed that they could not bath as expected. The water in the house (but not a problem for the apartment) never got past a little warm, there was always still a chill. Again, the 4 teens staying in the apartment said they had hot water. We had 8 people, 4 in each house and had plenty of space. I might recommend more towels for larger groups. Loved it!

Sunsets are the most beautiful I have ever seen
So much room in the property to spread out and everyone find their own space. Pool was warm all day. Sunsets were amazing. Property is conveniently located to many beaches, restaurants, and attractions. On site grounds keeper was very helpful and property management company was very attentive.

Vacation
Pictures are on point! You get what you see. Beautiful home both main and guest house. It was very clean. Communicate was great and amazing view!! The pool was relaxing and warm from the sun! Perfect for swimming all day! It is way up in the hills so transportation should surly be scheduled ahead of time. I recommend setting all transport up ahead of time and grocery shopping for snacks and drinks to keep in the home!
