About this property

Romantic and historic little hideaway in the French Pyrenees!

This magnificent former Shepherd's Lodge, with origins dating back to 1891, dominates its hillside with views of the mountain peaks and its lush valley with meandering river below.

It sits within 2,560 m² of well cared for grounds with beautiful flower beds and is ideally located just 5 minutes from its village, at the foot of the Pyrenean passes and ski resorts.

The lodge was completely rehabilitated, in 2018, from the ground to the roof, by local craftsmen with high quality fixtures and fittings. Renovations include full rewiring, installation of double glazed windows, low consommation radiators, new bathroom and a newly fitted kitchen with a Lacanche range and granite worktops.

The accommodation is spread over three levels. On the lower level, there is a laundry room, a shower, a toilet and a storage space, with a separate side entrance. On the main floor, the entrance opens onto a large open plan kitchen / living area with a wood-burning stove incorporated into a period fireplace. The living room opens onto an adjoining covered terrace with simply stunning views of the mountains!

The top floor offers a large bedroom with a bathroom ... the bath has been stategically placed to optimise the views of the valley and mountains.

Located less than 30 mintues from the town of Nay where everything is available and an hour from the cities of Pau, Lourdes and Tarbes and at the foot of the Pyrenees ski resorts with all the activities they offer, biking, hiking, climbing, canyoning, horse riding to name a few.

About the host

Host profile image
Kent and I are Canadian and have been together for 25 years. Kent's background is in hospitality management where he has spent over 35 years managing/owned hotels, golf courses, restaurants and island resorts. Our experience has also taken us into hospitality education in Switzerland where we were lecturers for 7 years in one of the leading hospitality universities in the world.

Why they chose this property

We started looking into finding a home in an ideal location in Europe for travel but isolated from the hustle and bustle of larger towns as being surrounded by nature appeals greatly to us. When we started looking online, we found the perfect little home in the perfect location and climate. The major pull for us was the fact that it was impecably renovated less than 5 years ago and they respected the character and charm of its history. A rare combination we discovered when we explored other French properties.

What makes this property unique

For bikers and hikers, you are in the perfect location - its right outside your door. If you are interested in the Tour de France, their path goes right through the village below us. The soaker tub in the bedroom is also a great plus at the end of a long day.

It's a remote location and ideal for a couple (and pets!) wanting to get away from it all. Since it is remote, some planning is needed in terms of groceries but we will support you in making sure you don't need to make any unecessary trips.
