About this property

Private and Quiet home on the East side Big Island

Welcome to Hale Ohi'a Lehua! This new, beautifully designed and decorated 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is the perfect location for sightseeing the east side of The Big Island. Near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Centrally located in the Mauna Loa Estates subdivision, and only about 30 minutes to Hilo, you are convenient to all of the sights and sounds that the east side of the Big Island has to offer. From here, swimming and snorkeling in Punalu’u Black Sands Beach or in Hilo is a 30-minute drive in either direction. And you're minutes from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which has a whole new look after the great eruption of 2018 that closed the Park for several months!

Hale Ohi'a Lehua sits perfectly on its private, quiet landscaped 1/2 acre with citrus and other fruit trees in the backyard, and the native Hapu’u ferns surround the edge of the property. Enjoy the crisp mountain air at 3500’ elevation. The large lanai is the perfect place to relax with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning, or a great book in the afternoon. Hale ‘Ohi’a Lehua sleeps 6-7 comfortably with a regular king bed in the master, a queen in the 2nd bedroom, and a twin & double bunk-bed in the 3rd bedroom. The master bedroom has its own large private bathroom with a huge walk-in shower.

WHAT TO PACK: The Island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, boasts over 4,000 square miles and 10 different climate zones, within which are many micro climate zones! You may think that packing your favorite swimsuit and slippers (flip flops) is enough, but not true if you plan on doing any hiking or sightseeing around the island. The Volcano-town area can get quite chilly with temperatures dropping down to the low 40's at night, sometimes lower, so do bring your favorite warm pajamas and at least a light jacket. It actually snows often on Mauna Kea, but they close those roads whenever there are blizzard conditions present.

We will be back!
We LOVED our time in this beautiful home (and that is exactly what it felt like - a home!). The house was beautiful and we enjoyed being there. The area was spectacular!! If you love crowds, then this is not for you, but if you enjoy the quiet to listen to the millions of birds, and a quaint town nearby, then this is exactly where you should stay. We cannot wait to come back!

Wish we could have stayed longer
Beautiful spacious home. Great kitchen. Perfect location for exploring the National Park. Only downside was the expensive cleaning fee.

Great place to stay
Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Right next to the national park. It was wonderful. Like most houses in Hawaii, there was no heat. Space heaters were provided, they worked great. There was a fireplace, but very limited hours of use. We stayed in Dec and it got chilly. I knew to warn everybody to bring some warm clothes, but being able to use the fireplace a bit more would of been nice,

Lovely Home Just Outside Volcano National Park
Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This home is just like the pictures--very clean, spacious, and in a quiet area. This was a "girls trip" for a grandmother and two young adult granddaughters, and we each had our own bedroom. Volcano Village does have a small store and a few places to eat, but we grocery shopped ahead of time. Kitchen has plenty of dishes and flatware, but the oven wasn't working when we were there. The large microwave is also broken but there is a small apartment size micro that you can use for popcorn and reheating beverages. There is a washer and dryer in the carport, but the dryer wasn't working when we were there either. The manager was quite helpful, even leaving all the lights on for us since we arrived after dark.
