The owners hang out all day talking together which makes you feel unwelcome. The girl that checked us in said there was a welcome drink at 7 every day but they offered us a 2-1 deal instead . When I saw the girl that checked us in she said it was a mistake and then 2 glasses with brown stuff suddenly appeared which was unacceptable in looks and taste, the place could be so nice but it is not. It’s close to the beach but really expensive in the area. Which is why a communal kitchen was nice but they closed that down on our last day so they can sell you a 35$ meal multiple times a day. No thanks greedy little man.

My home away from home! A comfortable and exciting place to be. The staff is fantastic, a great energy to be surrounded in and it’s so close to the beach. I highly recommend you stay here when you visit Tamarindo. PURA VIDA!!!

While the staff was very friendly, the location convenient, the private suite was beautiful and I enjoyed the night market activity and welcome drinks, there were several issues during my stay. In five days, my room was only cleaned once and they left a dirty rag on my nightstand. There was no gas in the ovens to cook, the TV didn't work, there was a mini bar menu but no mini bar, there was a coffee machine in my room but no coffee, I asked twice to have the light and tap fixed in my bathroom and nothing happened. The kitchen was missing several things like sharp knives, cutting boards, pens and stickers to label food, no "free" food section which is very common in hostels, basics like oil and pepper. Also, I asked for information on an activity and never heard back. At checkout, they said I hadn't paid when I already had. This is a party hostel and pretty loud so great if you're a social butterfly, otherwise not so much. It was a shame so many things went wrong! Not sure I would recommend.

Decent for location

Pros: - Great vibe (especially for hostel style, solo travellers) - Great amenities, pool, pool table etc... - Great location - Food/restaurant/bar is good Cons: - rooms need updating, very dirty and dated. - Shower didn’t work well (always cold) - Bed was mediocre, not that comfy. - Bathroom light rarely worked - wifi was OK, kept cutting out

Bugs all over the room. Floors, walls, shower and crawling on the sheets and pillows. Toilet didn't work, front desk lied and said someone was coming in 20 mins to fix it. No one ever came. We checked out after one night because the infestation was too much for us to tolerate. Slept in the hammocks outside because there were literally fewer bugs outside. Wouldn't even recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Dirty and disgusting. Front desk lady was rude and unhelpful. Said they are very aware of the bug problem (yet still charge top dollar for their bug infested rooms).

Fun Hostel!

This is a great hostel to stay if you want to meet people and be close to everything! They also offer surf lessons, have a great kitchen, and the friendliest staff ever. Another great thing about Selina is that they have multiple chains around Costa Rica, so if you plan to visit another part of the country, you can mention you've stayed at Selina at your previous destination to get a special rate. In terms of cleanliness, don't expect a 5-star hotel, but it's not bad to get the job done for a safe place to crash. Lots of ants/bugs in rooms too, but again, the hostel is basically set up like cabins in a camping ground. Music in the common area does start as early as 7-8 am, so sleeping in might be hard for any light sleepers. However, if you are looking to meet people, you'll be sure to keep yourself company at this hostel!

Worst stay in my life

Horrible experience. Poorly kept and managed. Dirty bathrooms, kitchen, rooms. Staff were unfriendly. Took our food from communal kitchen. Turned off water, electricity for hours with no notice. Left communal bathrooms full of dirt for hours and refused to give me toilet paper after a bathroom sat for over 24 hours without being re-stocked as "they didn't have access to that only the cleaning staff did". Staff would come into your room without knocking. During 9 nights we asked to have our room cleaned once and they still hadn't done it by 4:30. We then had a staff member come in our room, spray it, remove a dirty towel and not clean it. Toilets were often full of people's waste as there was no water to flush them. The communal kitchen had very limited supplies and the stove often wouldn't work. When we got there we put our stuff in the fridge, came back an hour later it was gone. We hadn't labeled it but after asking the staff about it since it was all fresh food and other food in the fridge that was rotting was not thrown out we found out a staff member had taken our full bag of groceries to the "staff fridge". They had construction at 7 am every day for a week. It welcoming vibe despite the good reviews we heard about Selina. Mosley pillows. I would never stay at a Selina's again. The owner is just cashing in without caring about Basic needs that your paying for. A waste of $. We only booked for 9 nights because it was Christmas and our only option.

Private room not worth even the sale price

We had a private room with shared bathroom. We got the sale price too of $55 Canadian a night. Not worth it. Room was super small, we can barely fit two backpacks, the shared bathroom smelt awful. Room was next to the pool and bar which we enjoyed ! Stayed at other Selina hostels, which were much better.

My private room was not clean, and there were stains all over my sheets. I requested new sheets, and the new sheets had stains on them as well. A friend I met there was staying in the shared dorm and got bed bugs from staying here. My AC was not working for the first two days of my stay. I requested for my AC to get fixed, and the maintenance man came and left me with no remote and the temperature on 17 degree C(62 degree F). It was a nice location, and things to do but definitely not worth the price for a private room that was dirty on the walls, power in and out, stains (looks like bed bug stains), and other stains on the sheets when I requested new ones.

No geral minha estadia foi boa. A localização é perfeita e é possível fazer tudo a pé no centro de tamarindo. Tem um supermercado em frente ao hostel tambem o que foi ótimo. Minha unica observaçao é que falta um pouco de manutençao nos quartos. Tive um problema com o box do banheiro que enchia toda vez que tomava banho. Reclamei 3x até que me trocaram de quarto.
