The Old Rectory - and hosts Julie and Chris - exceeded all our expectations. We are retired and so enjoyed the peace of the location in Lanreath - and although there are several other apartments within the building, use of the generously heated pool was normally "private". We ate out in Looe,Fowey, Polruan and Lerryn, and visited friends in Mevagissey, and the Old Rectory was perfectly positioned for those journeys, and a wonderful base to which to return each night.
The classroom flat is spacious, well equipped and wonderfully situated, being minutes walk from the harbour and shops and not a long drive from other attractions. As mentioned in the listing, it is part of the main house, there doesn't seem to be any soundproofing between them. Getting a good night's sleep is at the mercy of your neighbours keeping to the guidelines, sadly ours did not. There was a problem with the heating, however, communication with the hosts was good and they arranged a gas engineer very promptly.
This is a really spacious 2-bed apartment, impeccably presented in a great area which serves as a great hub to drive to pretty much anywhere in Cornwall in under an hour.
The hosts sent me good directions and lots of useful information before I arrived. On arrival, I was pleased to find a large, dedicated parking space and a garage where I could keep my bicycle during my stay. I immediately noticed how peaceful the location was.
On entering the apartment, I was struck by the size of the rooms and the great view from the windows and two balconies. There is even a pair of binoculars, enabling you to spot the Eddystone Lighthouse, 24 miles out to sea! Essentials are supplied to get you started (toilet rolls, milk, tea, coffee) but there are several supermarkets (including Tesco, Asda and Lidl) within a 5 minute drive.
Only half a mile away is Charlestown, a picturesque historic harbour which has pubs, restaurants, cafes (one which is open until 6pm) and craft shops. It is down a steep hill, so I was grateful for my e-bike on the way back!
There is also a private beach, again down a steep path, which I had completely to myself on a Friday evening in late September! Check the tide times though - if you're unfortunate enough to arrive at the beach during the highest tide of the year (like I did at one point!), you'll find there is no beach at all! Low tide reveals a lot of rocks along the low-water mark, so take care if you're swimming.
Thoroughly recommended!
We stayed as a multi generation family group with my parents, husband and our son. The apartment is lovely, perfect for a family with everything you could need. The view is absolutely spectacular, I could have easily sat and watched the boats for hours. All rooms are a nice size and the kitchen is well stocked with equipment. There are games and information about local attractions provided which is great- I found out about the ferry to mevagissey through these which I highly recommend, we even saw dolphins!
Access is not for the faint hearted as you have to park at the top of the hill and walk down steep paths to the apartment, fine on the way down but a bit of a workout on the way back up, especially with luggage so bare that in mind when you pack!
Access to the local amenities are much easier as they are closed by which was perfect for us. The ferry over to Fowey is lovely and Fowey has more to explore.
The host's communication is great, he is very attentive and checked everything was sok on our arrival and throughout our stay.
I would happily return and stay for longer as I don't think we made the most of our stay due to it being so short!
We had a wonderful stay (despite the weather) at No.4 Pian View, it was even nicer than the photos with absolutely everything you could need during your stay. With Padstow on your doorstep and all the lovely local beaches you can’t ask for any more, will definitely be back!
