About this property
Fox Run: Waterfront Lakehouse with Impressive Views and Luxury Details
Welcome! Whalley Lake is a perfect choice for your vacation. This is a small'ish lake with great fishing, great swimming and impressive views.
Due to local changes in licensing, we will be offering only 7-day rentals to 3 lucky cottage groups for summer 2024.
The lake house has 3 full bathrooms and 4 furnished bedrooms that sleep 8 happy cottagers.
Check out the kitchen! It's chef's dream kitchen: stainless steel appliances include an ice dispenser, full gas range, dishwasher and microwave as well as an Instant Pot, slower cooker and a coffee maker to start your day right (will accommodate individual single service coffee/tea pods).
Two kayaks, one kid's kayak and one canoe are included in cottage rental (please bring your own life jackets for children; we have a few PFDs - women's medium and men's XL)
Here are some details about the sleeping arrangements:
- all bedding is provided
- Master Bedroom/Ensuite: 1 king size bed
- Room 2: 1 queen size bed + 1 crib
- Room 3: 1 queen size bed
- Lower level Room 4: 1 double bed, 1 single bed + 1 set of bunk beds
We are equipped with internet, smart TV (to stream your favourite services), DVD player and a bookcase full of games, puzzles, movies and books. A playpen (good for sleepy infants or small toddlers) is available as well as an Ikea high chair.
The front porch offers shade all day and the back upper deck is large and a great place to hang out or to enjoy meals together. It has a clear view to the dock and great views of the lake. There's a fire pit for great evenings around a fire (please check the fire restriction signs before starting a fire). Bring your own wood - available at the first house on the left on our road as well as the Magnetawan Bait and Tackle.
At the waterfront, you can spend the day in the sunshine or shade. The waterfront area has been landscaped and there is a huge lower deck to enjoy the lake view and supervise young swimmers. The gazebos offers shade or provides shelter from the rain ... without having to hurry inside when it starts to pour. The hammocks are a perfect place to catch a nap or catch up on some reading.
The property is fairly level (making it mobility friendly - those with some mobility issues can avoid the deck stairs by walking around the side of the house and enjoy lake views from the lawn area) with stairs down to the dock area.
The charming town of Magnetawan is a quick 5-minute drive away, featuring a small grocery store, a tiny bakery, hardware store, LCBO and golf course. If you're here on a Saturday morning, the farmer's market is worth a visit. It features local businesses from woodworkers to farmers to live music. There's also a Bait and Tackle store even closer to home .... just across from Whalley Lake. For the adventurous (kid friendly): consider taking the kayak under the Hwy 124 bridge and pulling up the kayaks behind the Bait & Tackle. They sell more than just bait and gas ... yummy Kawartha ice cream and other treats.
We are located 2 1/2 hours from Toronto, 40 minutes from Parry Sound and 20 minutes from Sundridge. Well worth the trip to a week of relaxation and fun.
Some tips for a great vacation:
1. We are on well water here - no need to bring bottled water unless it is your preference.
2. We are on a septic system, please don't flush ANYTHING more than toilet paper. *DO NOT flush any feminine hygiene products or wipes down the toilet.
3. Whalley Lake is usually calm and quiet - perfect for exploring by canoe or kayak. If you are bringing a small fishing boat with you, there is a public launch available. Don't forget to bring your personal flotation devices - 1 life jacket for each person in the boat, an emergency kit and your Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
4. Remember to bring a fishing license if you are between 18 and 64 if you intend to try fishing from the dock or boat.
5. If you are planning to spend some time with at the lake house in the winter, lucky you! Over 150 km of excellent groomed OFSC trails fan out from Magnetawan in all directions joining with the main OFSC trail network. The Magnetawan Ridge Runners have built, maintained, groomed and continue to improve over 153 km of snowmobile trails.
6. Fall is our favourite time to visit the lake: warm sunny days and cool nights - perfect for an evening of sitting around the fire. For our spring or fall guests, check out the Magnetawan town website for details on hiking or biking trails.
Our cleaning staff is making extra efforts to clean/sanitize the cottage for your safety. Please note that check out is 11 am and check in is at 4 pm. To give our cleaners more time to sanitize, we are asking our guests to pitch in with some minor 'chores' that will allow us to keep the 4 pm check-in (stripping beds, removing garbage and recycling - details are on the bulletin board).
We want you to enjoy your time at Fox Run but even more important, we want you (and our cleaners) to be safe and healthy.
* Please note: We market our cottage on VRBO ONLY (and occasionally on Marketplace) If you see an ad on kijiji, it is not a legitimate listing. There has been an increase of cottage scams. Please report your concerns to the police if you see our photos anywhere except VRBO or Marketplace.
* Note: Occupancy is verified by security camera footage of the driveway/parking area.

About the host
Hosted by Doris

Our extended family has made amazing memories renting cottages for 50++ years on the same lake in the Kawarthas. We still share stories about catching frogs in the swamp; the year the power failed and we BBQd all week and played games by lantern; the fish that got away; teaching the water-shy dogs how to swim; the hikes to the waterfall.
Now that we three sisters have grown up, married and have children and grandchildren of our own, those cottage memories continue to connect us. Precious memories. Dad's gone now and many of our most precious memories are of him with his 11 grandchildren at the lake.
It was always a dream to have a cottage of our own. A place where we could hang out for more than just two weeks each year and enjoy ALL of the seasons: swimming and fishing in the summer, hiking and ATVing in the fall, snowmobiling in the winter and running from bugs in the spring.
... and here we are! Finally! After years of dreaming. We are now making new memories with our family and friends. We're pleased to share it with you: Fox Run on Whalley Lake.

Why they chose this property
We were attracted to the level property, a small lake that warms up quickly for amazing swimming, good fishing, great neighbours and solitude. We built the house with friends who owned the land for many years and built the cottage next door where they made memories with their own children. Together, we poured love into every wall and every design feature.
