About this property

Orchard View; Spacious 4 bed cottage in rural country location. Single storey

Enjoying a rural location close to Kinross, to the north east of Loch Leven, our holiday accommodation at Pittendreich provides an ideal location for a restful holiday and a wonderful base from which to explore this area of central Scotland.
We have three adjacent cottages situated on a working arable farm; Orchard View has 4 bedrooms and sleeps up to 8. These single level farm cottages provide spacious fully fitted accommodation. There is a sheltered patio area enjoying views over our established orchard, shared with neighbouring cottage, The Croft. There is a two acre field within a minute walk of the cottage for guests to use and enjoy.

The cottages enjoy wood-burners, wireless internet, televisions and a selection of DVDs, board games and books. There is ample parking on site.

You can walk and cycle from the front door; the National Cycle Network and the Loch Leven Heritage Trail can both be accessed from the end of the drive, with the Trail providing safe off-road walking and cycling around the Loch, passing Kinross and RSPB, Vane Farm. There are walking trails from the nearby villages of Wester Balgedie, Scotlandwell and Falkland giving access onto Bishop Hill and the adjacent Lomond Hills.

Our local pub, The Balgedie Toll, is a 5 minute walk away, offering a full lunch and evening menu, whilst the award winning Loch Leven Larder farm shop is a 3 minute walk, at the end of the farm track. This offers a wide range of shopping, with luxury goods and gifts, foodstuffs including a deli counter and locally sourced produce. There is also a popular cafe which serves food and drink during the day.

Kinross is less than 10 minutes drive by car, with several shops and various supermarkets, as well as a post office, bank, chemists, sports facilities and health services. Kinross also has good motorway and A road access, being situated on junction 6 of the M90 and there are park & ride links to major towns/cities. We are fortunately located in terms of outdoor pursuits as well; golf, shooting, gliding, fishing and curling are all within a 10 minute drive, Knockhill is 15 miles and hill walking is plentiful in all directions.

Gleneagles and St.Andrews are both within 35 minutes by car, Edinburgh 40 minutes, whilst Perth is only 25 minutes. The pretty and varied region of the East Neuk of Fife, with its plentiful beaches, coastal walks and craft and art shops is great to explore and is reached within 30 minutes drive.

Exceeded expectations
The property had the feel of a good hotel when we walked in. Smelt lovely and fresh. Bedrooms were spacious and modern. Julie was happy to help whenever we called. She was pleasant and kind. Just what you want when you are on a family holiday. The cottage is surrounded by farms growing carrots, parsnips, potatoes, brocoli, oats and barley and many other types of produce. There is even a combine harvister on the site. Fascinating but not at all disturbing. The property listing and pictures does not do thos property justice. The surroundings are actually stunning. With the beautiful mountains on one side and a view of Loch leven on the other side. The area has an abundance of activities for all ages, from water sports, to waterfalls and walks and high end shopping. The location has the advantages of a little town with shops and transport links to stunning countryside. The weather was kind was lots and lots of sunshine. We were very sad when the 10 days holiday came to and end too quickly.

Outstanding
This was hands down the best holiday cottage I’ve stayed in. It was superbly well equipped and clean with a friendly host. If you want somewhere quiet and idyllic then this is the place to stay. It’s located in the middle of nowhere but is a close drive to loads of places and attractions. Also well worth a trip to the local pub less than half a mile away

About the host

We moved to Pittendreich over 19 years ago, with our then young family. Now just frequent visitors, the children enjoy catching up on the latest home project, helping with fruit picking, cider making or just reacquainting themselves with home. Thankfully our youngest still enjoys mowing the grass!

Why they chose this property

We moved to Pittendreich in the late 1990's and found ourselves planting a new orchard and woodland before we had unpacked. This was the start of a long adventure. We are still unpacking but the orchard now produces gallons of cider and fruit for assorted jams, whilst the native woodland has transformed two former paddocks into a diverse habitat enjoyed by a vast array of wildlife. We're continuing to savour our lovely corner of Scotland and hope you enjoy your stay.

What makes this property unique

Situated on the northern side of Loch Leven, Pittendreich is a small hamlet of about 12 properties. The cottages are adjacent to the original farmhouse, tucked into the farmyard, with each property having french windows overlooking the patio and orchard. A short walk from the cottages we have a field available for guests to walk in and enjoy. Within 5 minutes walk there is access to local trails, and cycling is easy from the front door. The National Cycle Network and the Loch Leven Heritage Trail (around Loch Leven) adjoin the property. Kinross is only an 8 minute drive away, having a variety of shops. Excellent road and bus links allow access to major cities and towns; Edinburgh, St.Andrews, Stirling, Perth, Gleneagles etc. are all within a 45 minute drive.
