About this property

Sleeps up to 6 people. Access to the gite is over a patio area located across from the secure pool. The patio is equipped for outdoor dining and has a BBQ. The spacious open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area has a tiled floor with a comfortable seating area with French & English satellite TV, DVD, CD player and free wifi. There is a dining table with chairs and fully equipped kitchen with oven, induction hob, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The bathrooms and bedrooms are on the first floor: Both bathrooms have a shower, WC and a handbasin. Bedroom 1 has a king size oak bed with comfortable Ergoflex mattress, bedside tables, wardrobe, original timber floor and ceiling beams, complimented by a view out across the vineyard to the Canal. Bedroom 2 also has a king sized oak bed with comfortable Ergoflex mattress, bedside tables, wardrobe and features and views to match bedroom 1. Bedroom 3 is to the rear of the gite and is set up with twin beds, bedside table, timber floors and beams. The swimming pool has a security fence and plenty of sunloungers.

Our stay at Olonzac was excellent. We received a very warm welcome and the property was clean, tidy and exactly what we were hoping for. An excellent location , close to the Canal and Homps it all made for a wonderful stay.

Superb property and excellently equipped with everything you could wish for. Fantastic location

Three fabulous weeks in a wonderful location. So much to do in the area: walking and cycling along the Canal Du Midi, visiting the various Cathar Castles (and of course the medieval Cite de Carcassone), enormous and stunning caves and not to forget the glorious Mediterranean beaches. Three weeks wasn't enough. Wendy and John are on hand to offer advice and local knowledge. The gite is spotless and fully equipped to a very high standard. One word sums it all up : wonderful!!

Perfect!

We stayed as a family of 5 in the larger gite in August with children aged 4, 10 and 12. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed - Wendy was a lovely host and the gite was amazing with everything you need for a perfect holiday. The children loved the pool, which has security fencing - perfect for our adventurous 4 year old boy! The pool area is beautiful with plenty of sun loungers for everyone and is in the sun until late into the afternoon. The older two loved the English TV and the wifi for chilling out during the hot afternoons and we spent some great family evenings outside on the lovely patio area playing the many games available. The location is perfect. It's a short, enjoyable walk into Olonzac, with plenty of wildlife spotting to keep younger ones entertained! Olonzac itself is lovely with a fantastic Tuesday market, some great bars and restaurants and a lovely play park for smaller children. We enjoyed cafe de la poste for afternoon drinks and had a lovely meal at la citadelle restaurant, which served a good variety of food (including pizza for fussy children!). The owner spoke very little English but was very friendly and welcoming and did her best to help translate the menu! The canal is in view of the gite and makes for a lovely walk. My son loved watching the barges and even got to help with the locks a couple of times! Homps has a variety of places to eat and has a very relaxed, laid back feel. Perfect for warm evenings. One of our highlights was the swimming lake which we visited several times. It took about half an hour to walk (with children), but has a free car park which we also used. The lake is beautiful! The children enjoyed the inflatables which cost 7 Euros to play on for half an hour, there was a designated swimming area (with lifeguards), a water sports area (for windsurfing etc) and a cafe which served drinks and snacks (the food was lovely). The beach area is pebbled so you do need shoes to walk around, but for us the lack of complaining about sand from the children was bliss! For days out Narbonne and Carcassonne are only a short drive away and both very worth visiting, especially la Cite in Carcassonne. Wendy has supplied all the information needed to choose days out - there is so much to do in the area for all ages. From age 4 to 47 this has unanimously been one of our favourite holidays - perfect accommodation, beautiful surroundings and a great location - we will most definitely be back!

Beautiful gite

A wonderful renovation has provided a comfortable haven in a great location. Swimming pool, bicycles available for our use, and only a 15 minute walk to both Homps or Olanzac to shop for food, or eat out at a number of restaurants, added to our holiday experience! We loved walking or biking along the Canal du Midi, on the doorstep, and watching the entertainment of boats coming and going through the locks. The boulangerie, just a quick bike ride of five minutes, provided pastries for breakfast most mornings. Wendy is a wonderful host who made us so welcome.

Fabulous gite located in a very beautiful area

The gite is situated in the beautiful village of Homps with its many bars and restaurants, there is so much to do here from walking,cycling, visiting hill top villages, markets and night time entertainment at nearby Olonzsac (which is walkable from the gite) and of course a refreshing dip in the private pool at the end of the day. Our favourite day was borrowing bikes and cycling along the canal stopping for a leisurely lunch at one of the restaurants on the tow path. The gite has everything that you need plus more ! And John was there to answer any questions we had. I thoroughly recommend it unreservedly.

Initially we bought the property as a holiday home for our family, but quickly realised that we wanted to spend more time here, so renovated the old barn into 2 gites (one 3 bedroomed and one 1 bedroom gite) for holiday lets. We live next door to the gites, so we are nearby for assistance or sharing our knowledge of the area to enhance your holiday, should you wish it.

Why they chose this property

Les Arques Gites are in a peaceful location, surrounded by vineyards, yet within walking distance of two villages with several good restaurants. We are close to the Canal du Midi, so can watch boats navigate the nearby lock.
