My family and I had a wonderful stay at Kevin’s! It is such a peaceful & beautiful getaway, and the house is really special, clean and comfortable. Had everything we needed and we really enjoyed it. Also, was a really easy 25/30 min drive from both snowmass and aspen!
Such a special getaway- truly a slice of heaven and very accurate description. “Elevated glamping” as Kevin called it. The wall of windows is incredible
This is a unique property featuring a huge wall of windows with a gorgeous view year round. Watching the sunset over the summer plains of old Snowmass while reading a book was an unforgettable experience. Kevin is great and clearly loves this property and the area around it. The location was ideal for 15-20 minutes drives to see the whole area over a long weekend: early morning hikes to the Maroon Bells, lunch and shopping in Aspen, afternoon hikes with the dogs through Snowmass, and evening dinners in Basalt’s picturesque downtown. Take the scenic route when you can (Watson Divide)!A couple of things to know if you’re booking here: 1) It is advertised as pet-friendly and the cabin certainly is, but there is no enclosed yard. So you will only let your dogs off-leash here if they have great recall and if you don’t mind them running through long grass or near a road. If you want to go for walks with your dogs, you will end up walking down the nearby county road which is moderately trafficked.2) The property is more of quaint cabin in the woods than a luxury mountain retreat. There is no central air, so it is warm in the summer sun and relies on space heaters in the winter (there are many in the unit). The unit is showing its age and there are a few things that could be improved to make the stay more comfortable. The shower, open holes in the floor in some rooms, and a lack of locking doors might keep some travelers from feeling truly relaxed during their stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Painted Pony Ranch! The property and surrounding location are as beautiful and relaxing as it gets, while being close enough to the surrounding towns for restaurants/groceries/etc. Kevin is an extremely friendly and accommodating host. The place was equipped with everything we needed for a long weekend stay. Thanks so much!
We had a wonderful time great house and yard for dogs! Very good location to ski all around Aspen, would love to see experience a different season next time.
A unique home in a quiet country setting. The listing perfectly described all the features. We had a comfortable stay, and the dogs enjoyed the outdoor space as well.
Charming, rustic, clean, stunning area and exactly what we were looking for with our family and international friend! We loved the setting and farm feel. The goats and dogs added to the farm feel. Wonderful host and we felt very welcome on Kevin's property.
This beautiful home was the perfect stay for my friends and me while on vacation to ski and see music in Aspen. Kevin is an incredible host and such a nice person. If I'm back in this area of Colorado, I won't be staying anywhere else!
We loved our stay in gorgeous Old Snowmass and felt right at home in this charming property complete with goats and chickens. Our host was responsive and the house had everything we needed. Close to both Aspen and Basalt and more spectacular hikes than we could fit in in 2 quick weeks! Would love to visit again.

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
The architecture and setting of this home is amazing. It comes with 2 very friendly goats and dog. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it, if you are looking for something unique and off the beaten path.
Loved the kitchen and family room. Very spacious and well equipped. I think my dog enjoyed the vacation more than we did...running around outside and playing with the goats, dogs and wild turkeys!
My family had a great stay at Painted Pony Ranch! We loved the warm atmosphere, the sweeping views from the living room, and the close proximity to skiing at Snowmass…and the goats! The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were very comfortable, and we enjoyed having movie night and watching the Super Bowl on the huge screen in the living room. Kevin is a thoughtful host who took care of every detail!
Wonderful stay! I booked this property for an associate on assignment for our company. It was exactly as described and exactly what our associate had been looking for. The host was great to work with and very accommodating. We could not have asked for anything more. Our stay was even extended at the last minute. Again, a wonderful stay!

It was wonderful having you here! You're welcome back anytime!
The Painted Pony is in a beautiful setting. We and our dog enjoyed the property. We really like this location as it's close to Aspen, Basalt, and Carbondale with their gorgeous scenery and many hiking opportunities to burn off the calories from all the good food. The host, Kevin, is very helpful and we really enjoyed our conversations with him.

Thank you Charles! I'm glad you both enjoyed the unique pleasures of Painted Pony! It was a pleasure hosting both. You're welcome back anytime!
Property is just as described. No surprises.
We enjoyed Kevin’s hospitality, the dogs and goats.
We wanted a place to get away from usual plugged in lifestyle while not being too far away from it and this place did the trick.
Our 3 yo enjoyed the stay too.

About the host
Hosted by Kevin P Ward
I was raised overseas, attended Harvard, and worked as a creative director in NY for Apple , IBM, Silicon Graphics, and other early tech companies. On the NGO side, I designed the online face of RFK Jr's Riverkeeper and Waterkeeper Alliance. After many years on the East Coast, my family and I headed to the Aspen area. (Where else can you find wildlife, endless outdoor activities, and rugged beauty combined with the cultural and intellectual depth of a big city? ) Upon arriving, I founded the Aspen Science Center, focused on STEM education and outreach. ACES, our gifted minority summer program, physics BBQs, and Physics Cafes are well-attended institutions in the valley. Our paradisical ranch, close to the wilderness as well as the hustle and bustle of Aspen, lent itself perfectly to raising two wonderful, engaged, multifarious daughters, who are now off to college. Having enjoyed B&Bs while touring through Europe, I thought it would be fun to offer this unique wild/civilized experience to visitors ( and their animals). Let's see!
Why they chose this property
Painted Pony is the perfect vacation hideaway. You are minutes from world-class hiking, fishing, skiing, rafting, the X Games, jazz concerts....you name it, we are near it! The great thing though, is when you want serenity and escape from all of the activities, the reflecting pond, pastures, outdoor patio tables and furry creatures are waiting to offer a more serene style of entertainment.
What makes this property unique
I'm guessing there are not too many Airbnbs where you can get up close and personal with friendly goats, alpacas, horses, and donkeys--and enjoy fresh free-range farm eggs from our own bevy of feathered beauties! (They lay in the spring through early fall--once it gets chilly, they take the season off). It is a uniquely enjoyable experience. Hanging out with humans gets tiresome. Communing with goats? Never!
