The property is an easy drive to Aspen/Snowmass and is very country. The decor is comfortable and we felt very safe and relaxed staying here.

Awesome ranch experience for me and my family. Kevin was a great host and helped with any questions and/or suggestions. Our dog loved running off leash and trying to catch birds - which were abundant! Patio/outside area has ample seating and pond was cute. Didn’t get to experience the mini goats but maybe next time.. Rustic craftsman cabin with space to roam…

An Unforgettable Stay at Painted Pony RanchOur stay at Painted Pony Ranch was truly exceptional and far too short! Set on five beautiful acres surrounded by nature, the property is a peaceful little paradise. The home is comfortable, charming, and filled with so much character. It immediately felt warm and welcoming.We especially loved the hammock and beautiful outdoor spaces, where we could simply relax and take in the incredible surroundings. And having a truly pet-friendly property made it even more special. Our puppies had the time of their lives chasing chipmunks and exploring freely, leash-free, from morning until evening. Watching them enjoy themselves made our stay even more memorable.But what truly made Painted Pony Ranch special was Kevin, our host. He is kind, warm-hearted, gracious, and genuinely welcoming. Meeting him added such a personal touch to an already wonderful experience.Leaving was honestly very difficult. We wished we could have stayed much longer and will leave with wonderful memories of the ranch, the peaceful surroundings, our happy puppies, and the kindness of Kevin. We would absolutely love to return!

My family and I had a wonderful stay at Kevin’s! It is such a peaceful & beautiful getaway, and the house is really special, clean and comfortable. Had everything we needed and we really enjoyed it. Also, was a really easy 25/30 min drive from both snowmass and aspen!

Our stay was in early August 2026. The location was nice, but cabin had several flaws. The doors were confusing to lock from inside and we had to secure them with rope to feel safe. Host then explained how to lock from inside. Doors could not be locked from the outside when you left cabin. The door locking issue should have been indicated in the VRBO description. No A/C. There was a variety of other issues which made our stay subpar. Issues involving lighting, cleanliness, visual equipment, and items in disrepair. The property seemed neglected. Some TLC, cleaning, and repairs, would make a difference. Property has good potential. The Host was frinndly and responsive.

Wonderful stay in a serene location!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Painted Pony Ranch! The property and surrounding location are as beautiful and relaxing as it gets, while being close enough to the surrounding towns for restaurants/groceries/etc. Kevin is an extremely friendly and accommodating host. This is a unique property featuring a huge wall of windows with a gorgeous view year round. Watching the sunset over the summer plains of old Snowmass while reading a book was an unforgettable experience. Kevin is great and clearly loves this property and the area around it. The location was ideal for 15-20 minutes drives to see the whole area over a long weekend: early morning hikes to the Maroon Bells, lunch and shopping in Aspen, afternoon hikes with the dogs through Snowmass, and evening dinners in Basalt’s picturesque downtown. Take the scenic route when you can (Watson Divide)!A couple of things to know if you’re booking here: 1) It is advertised as pet-friendly and the cabin certainly is, but there is no enclosed yard. So you will only let your dogs off-leash here if they have great recall and if you don’t mind them running through long grass or near a road. If you want to go for walks with your dogs, you will end up walking down the nearby county road which is moderately trafficked.2) The property is more of quaint cabin in the woods than a luxury mountain retreat. There is no central air, so it is warm in the summer sun and relies on space heaters in the winter (there are many in the unit). The unit is showing its age and there are a few things that could be improved to make the stay more comfortable. The shower, open holes in the floor in some rooms, and a lack of locking doors might keep some travelers from feeling truly relaxed during their stay.

Perfect home for your stay in the mountains

This beautiful home was the perfect stay for my friends and me while on vacation to ski and see music in Aspen. Kevin is an incredible host and such a nice person. If I'm back in this area of Colorado, I won't be staying anywhere else!

Unique getaway in paradise

We loved our stay in gorgeous Old Snowmass and felt right at home in this charming property complete with goats and chickens. Our host was responsive and the house had everything we needed. Close to both Aspen and Basalt and more spectacular hikes than we could fit in in 2 quick weeks! Would love to visit again.

Cool and quirky

The architecture and setting of this home is amazing. It comes with 2 very friendly goats and dog. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it, if you are looking for something unique and off the beaten path.
