Magical!
I had the most fabulous stay! This is a unique experience. In addition to the beautiful room, make sure you take in the gorgeous gardens and take a drive in the lush countryside. The owners care tremendously (it’s their home as well) - their dedication shows. I will certainly be back!

A very different kind of B and B
We had a lovely stay over at Buittle on our way home from a holiday in Ireland. It was very comfortable and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. We were made to feel really welcome and invited to enjoy the extensive and atmospheric grounds. The castle and grounds are in the process of restoration so if you like everything perfect this might not be for you, but if you like a place with character and history we would highly recommend!

Beautiful nights stay
We took a wonderful drive out to stay at Buittle Castle. Communication with Tobias before our stay was appreciated and they were incredibly accommodating. James was a delight when we got there and really wanted us to enjoy our stay. Dinner was a real highlight, delicious and fancy in the great hall. The room was so cozy and the grounds were beautiful. I'm really glad we found this unique spot to stay!

Again, a lovely stay
We had a wonderful stay at Buittle Castle in the Munchies Room. The room is comfortable with loads of intriguing details. They also kindly provide a history of the castle. As we did the previous time we stayed, we had dinner in the Great Hall. Everything was excellent and memorable. I'm sure we'll be back.

Fabulous place to stay
Buittle castle is an old but beautiful castle. The rooms are decorated exquisitely the attention to detail is lovely.
Tobias is an excellent host so polite and charming.
We had dinner in the great hall although the room was a little chilly it was September the food was wonderful.
Would stay again if in the area.
Unbelievable experience in a wonderful ancient castle - not to be missed
Words cannot describe the atmospheric ambience of this ancient castle, you could almost feel the antiquity seeping through the venerable walls and furnishings. The seat of important lords/kings host to Mary Queen of Scots, 850 years of history, in a setting that looks and feels like nothing has changed.
This was our last stop on a 3 week tour of the area, and after staying at some wonderful places we were worried Buittle Castle might not deliver. We couldn't have been more wrong. From the booking (by the way book on the Buittle site not other booking sites as its cheaper and easier) to arrival, to checking out and everything in between it was simply amazing. Tobias, cousin to the current Barron and ancestor of the original owners, could not have done more for us. He not only made us welcome but also our dog and honestly nothing was too much trouble...from arranging evening dining to, vege breakfasts choices, getting the hot tub ready whenever we wanted it, showing us the chapel and local walks....just the best host of anywhere i've ever stayed.
We stayed in the Munches room, stunning, atmospheric and comfortable. The castle itself was just beautiful, the gardens and lovely walk round the river (with kingfisher), via the ancient Motte, and peacock all just added to the experience. The hot tub, looking over the gardens as the sun went down was wonderful.
Eating breakfast and very reasonably priced 3 course meal in the great hall felt like a huge privilege. The food was excellent.
We loved every minute of our stay and are so grateful to Tobias for everything. We really did save the best for last and i cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Unique location
We really enjoyed staying in the unique rooms. It was quiet, the room was spacious, and the breakfast was delicious. The medieval building is secluded and has a special flair, both inside and out. The owner is approachable and helpful.

Review
I was made very welcome on arrival, with straightforward explanation regarding heating, breakfast order arrangements, the gardens etc.
Breakfast served across the courtyard was lovely. It was also good to.meet the other guests there,
and to.learn a little history of the castle directly from Tobias.
I had little time to spend in the beautiful garden, as I had an evening engagement in Dumfries.
However I enjoyed viewing it in the early morning from my window.
I had a very comfortable stay and if I were in the area again it would be a great pleasure to return should the opportunity arise.

Charles waited up for us until 11 pm because of a delayed flight. The place was clean and comfortable and very accommodating. I would absolutely stay again.
