Bursting with character, boutique-hotel-luxurious and set in the heart of fashionable, arty Narberth, this town house with a rich history, dates from the 1850’s. It is perfectly positioned for exploration of Pembrokeshire’s coast, castles, and countryside. Tenby is on the doorstep. Folly Farm, Oakwood and the Blue Lagoon Water Park are less than 10 minutes’ drive away.
150 years ago, The Old Pharmacy was a working apothecary’s shop. The doctor-owner has beautifully restored it, sparing no expense. Alongside the original, early 19th-century oriel and bay windows, original fireplaces and open staircase are modern amenities: a newly fitted kitchen in an apothecary style (with top-of-the-range induction hob), a walk-in shower and luxurious, stand-free roll-top bath and a shady patio dining area set in a flower-filled garden. Melin Tregwynt blankets and Moroccan scatter cushions complement Georgian lounge chairs and a leather sofa in the spacious living room; heavy velvet curtains, Rennie Mackintosh soft furnishings and woollen blankets keep things intimate and cosy upstairs.
The house is filled with charming details and dotted with antiques, most relating to the building’s former life as an apothecary. There’s a kid’s bedroom with bunk beds, pill-capsule reading lamps and light shades moulded from an apothecary flask. A comfortable, top floor second double-bedroom scented with aromatherapy candles and furnished with an Edwardian lounge chair and huge cobalt-blue decorative floor vases serves for other guests. Original Victorian medicine bottles sit in the windows, old pre-decimal pharmaceutical scales on the mantle pieces, and pharmacological memorabilia fill display cases.
A locally sourced welcome hamper will be waiting for every new arrival. We are working on an illustrated and comprehensive welcome pack. This will give detailed, personally-researched recommendations — of all the best shops and restaurants in Narberth, and of what to see and do in the vicinity — from walks to the ancient burial stones of Pentre Ifan in Preseli Hills, strolls around Pembroke Castle and St. Govan’s chapel, and lazing on the gorgeous golden beaches, including Freshwater West as seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; all nearby.
