Ask a questionAbout Dr. Paul
At Cabot Shores, your hosts are Dr. Paul and Barbara Weinberg, Cosmo the guide dog and friendly staff. Barbara is an accomplished acupuncturist, vegetarian chef and gardener. Dr. Paul is a former 'road warrior', teacher and psychologist, who considers his doctorate to now be in 'adventure travel'. Paul can be found jamming on the blues harmonica and trombone, hiking, yoloboarding (stand up paddling) or kayaking with Barbara and Cosmo.
Dr. Paul purchased this farmhouse in 2001
Why Dr. Paul chose Victoria Subd. A
When we found the farmhouse, it was the 60 acres along the Atlantic and 120 acres in the Cape Breton Highlands that first drew us in. We were told to bury or burn it and rebuild, but we chose another alternative: to renovate with local spruce, hemlock and imported Douglas fir beams, and preserve the history and beauty of this beautiful, spacious Cape Breton home. In 2000, we renovated the 19th century homestead/working farm which once had horses, chickens, pigs, sprawling gardens and a sawmill. Dr. Paul and Barbara walked the land, re-creating trails once used by the Urquehardt family, who built and lived in this house. The farmhouse had been a place where midwives delivered babies and it was a home to many adopted children. Since then, it has become a gathering spot for travelers, families and friends who enjoy spending time with each other hiking, swimming, boating, and listening to local Celtic music and ceilidhs.
What makes this farmhouse unique
The Breton Cove Farmhouse is located on the Cabot Trail, near the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and many artisans, shops and places of interest. However, you may never have to leave the comfort and beauty awaiting you. With trails following through a meadow of blueberries and wild flowers, into an old growth forest, past a pond and to the ocean look off, there is plenty to explore on site. The farmhouse is both extremely private and conveniently located for further adventuring, and a great place to spend quality time with loved ones.
