About this property

Beautiful 16th Century farmhouse with large pool, located near Cortona,Tuscany

Welcome to Jasmina - our vacation rental, lovingly restored to retain its character but with a contemporary twist. Less than 15 minutes from Cortona, situated in the peaceful Tuscan countryside, the property adjoins our home, Villa Violina, a farmhouse of historic importance.

In a fabulous location for easily exploring Tuscany and Umbria, Jasmina also offers guests the opportunity to rest and enjoy a peaceful holiday by the large saline swimming pool set amongst acres of landscaped gardens.

Jasmina is a completely independent unit that is attached to our farmhouse. It provides a beautifully furnished accommodation where you will quickly feel relaxed and ready to enjoy your holiday. As the owners we are ordinarily onsite and are happy to offer help and advice during your stay, whilst always respecting guests privacy.

Stylishly decorated and furnished in shades of taupe and cream, the ground floor has a lovely triple aspect living room with fireplace, terracotta tiled floor and original chestnut beams. There is an LG LCD TV/DVD, Freeview and WiFi (20-30 Mbps). The kitchen has Italian marble worktops and ceramic double sink. Lovely antique table. Appliances include Bosch dishwasher and washing machine and a large Koning fridge/freezer.

Upstairs there is a large double aspect bedroom with queen sized four poster bed complete with cream voile drapes. Adjacent is its own separate bathroom featuring mosaic tiling and twin Italian marble basins. Additional twin bedroom with lovely wrought iron beds which can be made up as a double. There is an en-suite shower room.
Both bedrooms have stylish Daikin air-conditioning units to keep you cool during the hot summer months (metered and charged separately - if used overnight in both bedrooms the cost is approximately Euro 25 for one week).

To the front of Jasmina is a listed brick capana for al fresco dining with access to a Weber BBQ .

The Wi-fi is also available in the front and rear gardens.

Villa Violina is exclusively situated in 13 acres of private land consisting of large pine trees, 200 olive trees and 1 acre of private landscaped gardens with a 7 x 14 meter saline swimming pool. The pool is situated behind the house in the middle of the gardens and is open early May until late September. It is edged with travertine marble and surrounded by an antique brick patio. A large pergola provides shade and all outdoor furniture is of high quality.

Jasmina is ideally situated for visiting the wonderful regions of Tuscany and Umbria. Perhaps most importantly and the main reason we bought the house, is its proximity to Cortona, a less than 15 minutes drive away. It is an Etruscan town whose origins are older than Rome. Although small it is perfectly formed! Aside from its great architecture and historic importance the town is blessed with wonderful restaurants, gelateria's, coffee bars etc. The monasteries and churches are beautiful, the museums excellent and the festivals which take place throughout the year are great fun. Its close proximity means you can easily visit on a daily basis. Castiglione del Lago is also only 10 minutes away and offers a different experience with many restaurants and lake views.

For those seeking to explore further afield access to a major trunk road is an easy 5 minute drive. From there within 30-60 minutes are Montepulciano, Pienza, Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi, Siena and Orvietto to name a few.

Also of great convenience is the local railway station which is 5 minutes from the house. Here express trains can be boarded to Florence or Rome, enabling a day's sightseeing, whilst also giving access to Arezzo, Orvieto, Chiusi, Perugia and Assisi.

Jasmina is ideally located for many activities. We can advise on walks, running or cycling routes (local bike hire available including e-bike). At nearby Lake Trasimeno sailing lessons can be booked. Experienced? Yacht, motor-boat and kayak’s can be rented.

Villa Violina is on the wine route "La Strada del Vino", which links Cortona with Montepulciano. Wine tasting nearby can be arranged at La Braccesca (Antinori), Baldetti Avignonesi, Poliziano and many others.

A Idyllic Tuscan Location!
An absolutely perfect base to explore the wonderful Tuscan countryside and cities. We stayed for one week in Jasmina with our two daughters and couldn't have found a better villa. The pool was perfect and larger than expected! The villa itself was beautifully and luxuriously appointed and well equipped with whatever we needed. We simply didn't want to leave..... Our hosts Vicki and Steven ensured we were well informed and very comfortably looked after and have obviously poured a lot of love and care into Violina, creating an idyllic Italian retreat. We will absolutely return for another stay....there's just too much of Tuscany left to explore....

A beautifully restored house and grounds.
Our family of 4 enjoyed a very relaxing week in Jasmina. Vicki and Steven met us on our arrival and were incredibly welcoming and genuinely cared that we enjoyed our stay at their beautiful house. The boys (ages 6 and 10) spent most of their time in the very clean and roomy pool which was a very comfortable temperature, while we soaked up the Tuscan sunshine! The house itself was beautifully decorated and incredibly comfortable with sofas that you could sink into after a hard day by the pool. The kitchen contained everything that we needed and we enjoyed using the bar b q and eating al fresco under the sail canopy of our outdoor dining area. Cortona is just a 10 - 15 minute drive away and well worth a visit as it is a stunning walled city full of Italian charm and winding cobbled streets. I would say that the photos of Jasmina do not do it justice, as it really is the loveliest holiday home that we have ever stayed in and we can't recommend it highly enough.

Beautiful Tuscan farmhouse in excellent location
We had a fantastic Tuscan holiday staying here in Jasmina, a beautifully renovated farmhouse mixing tradition with modern convenience. Perfect location for making day visits to towns and places all over Tuscany and Umbria. The owners Vicki and Steven are the perfect hosts and were easily available for any advice. The house itself the perfect place to relax and if not travelling, very peaceful and extremely well kept, including the very large pool. Our 2 year old had a great time and was very safe playing in the large grounds of the house. If you want to explore southern Tuscany, combined with beautiful and peaceful accomodation, then I couldn't recommend highly enough.

Another wonderful trip to Italy
We were fortunate enough to find La Violina and apartment Jasmina. We found the location ideal to visit many of our favorite Tuscan and Umbrian towns. The apartment was all is was described to be and much more. It was neat, clean and well supplied. The grounds were beautiful, spacious and very well maintained. Luckily the owners and their talented dog, Rosie, were there. We arrived early and they recommended the restaurant Francesca, which was not only minutes away, but had excellent service and great food and wine. The owners, Vicki and Steve, were an absolute delight and it felt like we had know them forever. The area was so peaceful that it was the first time I slept all the way through the nights for a week! We will return and would highly recommend this property. Joanie and Helen

Amazing
I almost hate to write this review, because I am not sure I want to share this gem with the rest of the world! But it would be selfish to keep Jasmine all to myself! Even if it means in future years I have to plan further in advance to stay there. Jasmine really is a lovely slice of heaven if you are staying in Tuscany/Umbria region. It is perfectly located and Vicki and Steven are the perfect host if you are lucky enough to meet them. From start to finish we LOVED this house! I would have been happy spending my days by the pool, in the garden or curled up on the sofa and forgone the sightseeing. The house has warmth that embraces you from the time you enter! It really was a home away from home and there is nothing that I would change!! Well, next time I’m going to stay for 2 weeks!

Our love affair with Italy began in the 1990's and continues to grow. Now that we have both retired from our respective careers we have been able to enjoy more of our time in this beautiful country, getting to know its people, culture, history and many delights. In 2020 we became Italian residents.

Why they chose this property

It took over 5 years of searching before we identified and bought Violina for our home in Italy. We think the house is beautiful; a mix of brick and stone that has developed over the centuries. Podere Violina has been on the local maps for over 500 years and is classed as a building of historic artistic value; the equivalent of a listed building in the UK.

What makes this property unique

The restoration work of Violina is complete and so today it offers peaceful and extremely comfortable accommodation for those seeking time out in Tuscany and neighbouring Umbria. Whilst it is sometimes difficult to pull oneself away from the house its close proximity to Cortona is always a draw. Without doubt Cortona is a very special place and is a key reason why we purchased Violina.

The restoration is complete but the project is not. Each year we aim to undertake one or two projects to continue to improve the house and grounds (over and above general maintenance / redecorating etc). In 2013 the works were completed for the formation of a new olive grove in the grounds where a further 100 trees were planted. 2016 saw an additional 14 trees planted. In 2020 we restored the principal capanna, an outbuilding in front of Jasmina, giving guests a new al fresco experience. Plans for autumn 2022 include a third olive grove - our aim is to plant a tree for every guests that stays plus we hope to complete a solar panel project in the grounds to reduce our carbon footprint.

Our 'guestbook' for Jasmina is always open and we welcome further suggestions on how to improve the house from all our guests and to whom we say a big thank-you for all those who have supported us thus far.
