We had a wonderful stay at Locks Cottage with our group of 8! It was a charming, beautiful home in a lovely setting. The directions are helpful as the driveway entrance is small and easy to miss, but the directions are easy to follow and are exactly right. The location is central to several Cotswold villages, making for great day trips. Thank you for a great week!

A perfect location

This cottage is in a perfect location for a getaway. Access is down a farm track with cows to greet you along the way. The views are amazing especially the sunsets over the fields. There were 9 of us (5 adults and 4 children) and the cottage was big enough for us all to have our own space. It was clean and above all an interesting layout and decor. We had perfect weather so we were able to make use of the large garden. There were a lot of lovely walks in the area and Painswick is a delightful Cotswold town. I would highly recommend this lovely cottage.

An Unforgettable Stay in a Beautiful Cotswolds Cottage

We rented Locks Cottage and it exceeded all our expectations. The house itself was absolutely beautiful – full of character, very well maintained, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The views were stunning and truly captured the charm of the Cotswolds countryside, making it a joy to wake up each morning and simply take in the surroundings. The cottage felt peaceful and welcoming, the perfect place to relax and slow down, whether enjoying breakfast with a view or spending quiet evenings indoors. We had a brilliant time from start to finish and felt at home straight away. It was one of those stays that you wish could last longer. We would highly recommend this cottage and would happily return in the future.

A tranquil countryside escape

A charming and beautifully secluded property perfect for unplugging from the rush and stress of daily life. The cottage was full of nooks and crannies to explore but big enough for the whole family to feel like everyone had their own space. The perfect place to enjoy the beautiful countryside but still close enough to beautiful villages and places of interest to explore

Ideal choice for family gatherings

Locks Cottage is a beautiful property surrounded by rolling lawns, fields full of wildlife with an utterly vibe only punctuated by the occasional baaaaaing of sheep. The open plan downstairs has a very socialable set up of kitchen, diner and living room with lots of comfy seating, very good lighting and side tables. We stayed with our family ranging in age between 4 and 79, so three distinct sleeping areas were idea. All very comfortable with good bathrooms. The outside seating area is inadequate for 10 people and so is the hot water system. The Wifi was broken (no television either) but luckily one of our guests knows how to mend these things - and did! but that could be a problem for the non-technically minded. The freezer is also very small for so many guests. A very good place for family gatherings.

Brilliant place to stay

A fabulous venue for my 50th birthday allowing me to host several friends for a range of activities. The house is beautifully furnished, light, airy but traditional and comfortable. Lovely large living room and all good size bedrooms. Definitely off the beaten track - not really suitable for low to the ground sports cars!

Wonderful family get together

Locks cottage is perfect for a family get together. It has a great games room with a multi function pool/table tennis/shuffle board table and many indoor and outdoor games to keep children of all ages happy. There is a lovely sitting area for the adults to enjoy and the garden is lovely. Lots of stairs and mind your head on the beams. All in all we would definitely rent it again and are glad we rented an SUV as the track to cottage was challenging.

Well equiped kitchen...everything you'll need. Bedroom in separate part, up stairs from kitchen was small with no real window. It was obviously a garage, and they've put in a stable window, but hard to open and then couldn't easily close. Fabulous grounds, backing onto farm land, so very peaceful and rural. But...outside furniture poor, bad condition, very old and only 4 chairs and 2 loungers which were wooden and a little challenging. Very small table. In hot weather that we were lucky to have, we wanted to eat outside. Disappointed with that, but otherwise all good and we had a great family long weekend.

Lovely Cottage

I am so pleased that we found the listing for Lock's Cottage when researching somewhere to stay for a couple of nights on the Cotswolds. I now wish we could have stayed longer. Communication with Bolthole Retreats was great. Directions to find the cottage were very clear. Our party of 9 loved the location and the views. Everything was clean and set up nicely. The tweens/teens loved the game room. I would book this cottage again if I ever make it back to the area.

A short stay in the Cotswolds

We stayed in the cottage with 4 friends and enjoyed our time there immensely. The cottage and its surroundings were idyllic and the location was ideal for trips we made to Stroud and Cirencester. Walking down the valley into Painswick for lunch and returning via the Cotswolds Way was a really interesting walk. Things that need improving. Outside furniture was inadequate if there were 10 people staying. The dining table was poor and warped. No instruction manuals for oven, hob or barbecue. No tray in he showers for shampoo ad soap.

What a house

3 seperate families stayed at the beautiful cottage after not seeing each other for 5 years. The house had everything, the location so rural and beautiful and the kids loved driving through the field with the cows to access! It’s a brilliant house for seperate families with 3 seperate and distinctive areas with bedrooms and their own bathrooms. This was very important as it allowed everyone to have their own privacy, while enjoying the large social area of downstairs. The gardens were stunning and kids loved exploring, although they were sad to only discover the tree house on our last day! We absolutely loved our stay and would have no hesitation staying again. If I had to provide constructive feedback then the internet isn’t the best and didn’t cope with a few of us logging in, but you don’t come to this location to log on so this didn’t bother us in the slightest. There is far more to see and explore in the glorious setting! Highly highly recommend. Thank you for some incredible memories!

This was a beautiful home! It is very remote and hard to find from the road. It has very tiny stair cases so getting luggage up is difficult. The primary room is on the third level. My children enjoyed the lawn and playroom area. It was a great location to travel to all the different towns.

A family get together to celebrate two significant birthdays.

Locks Cottage did not disappoint. The house was beautiful with lots of character and decorated to a high spec. The house was a lot bigger than the photographs suggested and the views were stunning! I would definitely recommend staying here and exploring the beautiful countryside and local towns and villages. If there was one suggestion I would make it would that there weren't enough serving dishes and serving spoons.

An unforgettable stay

Thank you so much for our stay. Tom was a very accommodating host. We ended up getting snowed in on the the last day and he drove over 2 hours to help dig us out! And also let us stay for an extra night as we were trapped from the snow. Booked this for my Grandmas 80th birthday and she was so overwhelmed with how beautiful the place was. We felt so warm and cosy. The place was very spacious and the interior decorations were beautiful. Couldn’t of asked for a better stay and we hope to come back again some time in the future.

Great Cottage

Beautiful home. Super quiet. Very comfortable beds. Nice modern bathrooms. Kitchen is well stocked, but would benefit from the addition of a microwave. House is in good condition, but a few minor elements need work - small leak in roof, latch on bathroom door broken. Fireplaces are a delight, Underfloor heating on lower floor is welcome. Internet adequate, but a bit finicky as it wasn't working correctly on arrival. Driveway to and out of property is tricky, steep road can cause problems when muddy and wet. Overall we had 9 in the house and very much enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful

We really enjoyed our stay at Locks Cottage. Beautiful house and location. The only issues we experienced were spotty Wi-Fi and a broken water heater as only 1 person could shower before the hot water ran out. We would definitely return with the issues fixed!
