We stayed here for a week of ‘workation’ in September, working the weekdays till about 4 PM and then enjoying the pool, the views and the surrounding areas. The WiFi worked well for online calls and other work-related activities. There are different places to sit around the house, with plenty of shade. The pool is very nice, the views are beautiful and sunsets are great. The house is well equipped and we appreciated that things like olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and quite a few other spices were available.Paquita, the owner, sends a WhatsApp message when someone comes to take care of the garden or the pool and will send a few messages to check if everything is fine. Malaga and the nearest beaches are about 20-25 away by car. I guess the only less positive point would be that Cartama itself is not a very lively town, at least what we saw of it.

10/10, just flown back to Dorset UK this morning after a fantastic week away in Cartama, the villa is stunning, rustic but don’t let that put you off as the views are unreal! The Pool is a decent size for all the family to play in and big enough to do morning exercise swims. No other villas or properties over looking you so privacy is great and feels really safe in the grounds of the villa. A/C is only in the top bedroom and the down stairs rooms do get hot at night but there is fans and a breeze through the fly shutters at night. The road up the mountain is great fun, broken up tarmac/ un made road, it is a bit tight in places but we rarely had a problem with on coming vehicles, the kids loved seeing the farm that’s on your left on the drive up the mountain. 55 minute drive to Marbella 30 minute drive to Benalmadena and Fuengirola 20 minute drive to Malaga airport. Communication with the Host has been amazing and check in was effortless. Lidls, Aldi, Burger King and petrol station at the bottom of the mountain. Stayed with our 2 girls 4&7 and grandparents. 100% will be coming back.

Summer sun

We had a great stay in the mountains. Fabulous position and views from the pool area, and so many places to take in the environment around the property. Quite a drive up the hill to get there, but totally worth it! We watched the beautiful sunset every night.

Lovely place

The property has lovely views of the mountains and has a very good wood burning stove which we made good use of as we were there in February. Thank you Paquita for being generous with the logs. We drove towards Ronda to get amazing walks in the national park. Also highly recommend Santiago’s Kitchen which does excellent food.

A fabulous location to relax and unwind

Awesome property with lots of inside and outside space. Good size pool BBQ area Large terraced area with several sun loungers to relax and take in the sun. Lots of shaded areas if needed when the temperatures soar. Incredible views and great sunsets. We couldn’t fault it and the owners were amazing … Nothing too much trouble if you needed anything at all.

The villa was amazing, Sunnrises and sunsets fabulous. Clean, very well equipped. Beautiful swimmimg pool. Bedrooms got rather hot at night even though we kept all the shutters closed during the day, but it was hot temperatures.A great place to stay if you want to chill out, just a very narrow steep road up to the property........but then you wouldnt have those views otherwise.Fantastic communications throughout our trip.

We stayed two weeks in early July, 2 adults and a teen. We loved the large pool and amazing views from the deck. House was well equipped, kitchen was well stocked, perfect for our family. Very clean, private, and comfortable. We were there during a heat wave and took advantage of the bedroom upstairs with the air conditioning (bedrooms downstairs have ceiling fans). We were also very appreciative of the covered car-port, to keep our rental car out of the scorching hot sun. Paquita, the owner, was very responsive with any questions or issues, and helped to make our stay a really nice experience. Thank you again! We would definitely recommend this lovely villa.

This is our first visit to Spain, we found this property not sure of location. But wow the view and property were amazing, it was so relaxing, peaceful but you aren't far from any shops or areas to visit. We will definitely look at coming back. 10/10

Stunning views

Loved this house and setting! Quite a trek to get there but worth it once you see the views. Only negatives were that it was COLD and windy in Feb and the heating is really dependent on one wood stove in the LR. Also electric heaters in bedrooms to take chill off in pm and am. Landlady was very responsive and helped a lot with suggestions for local restaurants and sights. Lots of dogs barking (a la France!) otherwise very quiet and peaceful.

Superb Villa and spectacular views

Had 14 fantastic days in the Villa which is lovely and clean. The kids loved the pool one of the best Iv seen. Good communication from Samir and Paquita. The views from the Villa are spectacular and I could just sit and watch the world go by. Nice to watch the swallows fly over the pool, birds of prey and we were lucky to have a Iberian ibex appear on the property and watch it wandering about. The Villa is well equipped and has plenty of outside space/seating. Would certainly stay here again. Highly recommend

Just perfect! Highly recommend.

We were very sad to leave the villa after 7 wonderful days. The villa has all you need for a very comfortable stay, with a super pool to cool down in and breathtaking views. We wanted a relaxing and peaceful holiday and we certainly got it. We were easily able to communicate with Paquita and when we had a small issue with the hot water it was dealt with swiftly. I cannot make any negative comments as there simply weren’t any negatives. We would highly recommend booking this villa if you are looking to completely wind down surrounded by the mountains and blue skies.

Idyllic

Absolutely fantastic! Piquita was a superb host, really felt able to contact her if required (but everything was fab so not needed!) Sam who met us and sorted the keys etc was lovely and helpful too. The villa itself has everything you require and is beautiful but the thing that sets this property above and beyond is the pool and the stunning view! Could spend all day and all evening just enjoying it. No need to leave. So stock up the fridge and have some time away from the usual grind. Highly recommend!

wonderfully relaxing

Property was very nice. The outside and pool were the best. Must be half a dozen set of furniture for chasing or avoiding the sun. Very quiet set away from Cartama. Paquit and Sam were very helpful and friendly. We also had fun talking to the pool man neither of us having many words in common. He was fun too. The inside of the house was well appointed with all the amenities you would expect. Highly recomended

We loved our stay at this villa, it was a brilliant holiday for me and my partner. The views from the villa were exceptional and it was in a quiet location which meant it was easy to relax. The host was very accommodating and made it very easy for us to locate the villa by being taken to it on our first day. The villa was perfectly clean on arrival and the driveway made parking not an issue. There was only one issue. The villa is advertised as having air con, which it has but only in one room which is upstairs. This was fine for me and my partner but it maybe an issue for larger parties as it was very hot when we went and I don’t believe I would have been able to sleep in the other un air conditioned rooms. It maybe something the host may want to invest in. Apart from that, we loved our stay and would recommend it, the views from the pool were enough for us to want to come again.

Amazing terasse and views, ideal for inland trips

The house is quite high up a mountain over a small town with amazing views of Malaga and further North, the terasse is just fantastic when the sun is out, and the location is convenient for trips inland, eg. Alhambra, Zipline, Ronda etc, but still within 20 mins of the beach and downtown Malaga. Hosts were very kind and efficient in every interaction. House is rustic and charming, and it has everything you need, our only real issue was temperature. It was Feb. and 5-16C the first day, and even with the extra radiators and firewood supplied by our hosts it might have been difficult to stay warm, if the weather had not improved. However, this coolness is probably a plus in the warm season

Trip with Friends

Overall all went well. It was a bit of shock to drive to the house at the first time with a van because the house was located up on the hill. Also we had some problems with a smaller toilet and shower. Wc got stucked very easily and we avoided to use it. Also there was no hot water from smaler shover. Oven was also a bit of tricky. When we used owen and stow, we were not albe to use those at the same time. Othervise house was very nice and it was very nice to have a private pool. Overall I could use this house again😊

Stunning views but not much else

Getting to the place is a little challenging as there is room for one car and it's a two-way street. the house was great, so were the views but communication wasn't all that great. We had problems from day one; we ended up having to postpone appointments to have someone come and rectify the issues. It's a good thing I insisted in having the maintenance guy's # even after I was told by the owner's brother that it wasn't necessary... We ended up not being able to make coffee the first day as the gas tank was emptied, the TV wasn't working and had to be completely rebooted, electricity went out at 22h one night and had I not called the maintenance guy we still wouldn't have electricity... it happened twice where we had to find a grid in the street to turn the lights back on... Only people who live remotely know this! I was traveling with my 75 and 81 year old parents who kind of wanted a little comfort. And had I been the owner, seeing all the problems encountered, 1. I would have offered a little something in compensation but 2. mostly!!! I would check in on my guests? and see how they are? none of the above! and for that and other comments that I will keep to myself I give it a 2 stars! For Antonio the maintenance guy, who sent i one of his guys at 6h30 one day I give him a 10 star! as well as the view!

Thank you for your review - I'm so glad you enjoyed the house and the stunning views. I take great pride in communication, as reflected in past reviews. Regarding the cooker and TV, both were in working order, but I understand you had initial difficulties in working the cooker and the TV. My brother and our maintenance man, Antonio, responded within the hour to assist you. Although our first interaction was quite unpleasant and unexpected, Antonio kindly offered ongoing support, and I'm pleased you found him fantastic - as is the rest of the team. Being in a beautiful rural setting does mean occasional disruptions, especially with utilities. I’ve since learned a fallen cable in a neighboring property may have contributed to the electrical issue during your stay. I always aim to treat guests as I would want to be treated, but sometimes nature has its own plans. Thank you again for your feedback.

This Villa is very old, it is in the middle of nowhere and it’s up a very very steep hill, the views are beautiful but it’s not close to anything at all. The pool was very cold which was a shame because the weather was 30 to 32 and the pool was still very cold to get into. The sunbeds unfortunately are broken quite a lot of them we managed to find two that weren’t. It really could’ve done with a good clean inside and outside before we arrived I felt there was lots of ants everywhere and lots of bugs, especially as you went out the back door on the ceiling there was loads of like snail things stuck to the roof. We also did request that we were left alone and nobody to disturb us. The pool man came in which was fine. But the Gardner we were told was going to come in on three separate occasions and two of them he didn’t turn up which made us feel like we couldn’t really wander around in our swimwear. We needed to cover up which weren’t very happy about. Would I stay here again? No it was too old for me. It needs doing up. There was too much furniture inside too many personal things I wouldn’t of took children there because the stairs that went up to the third bedroom there was no balustrade and it would’ve been dangerous for children to go up and down there. You have to really be aware that we had two showers as there was only two of us and the hot water went because you are in the Campo. There was no Aircon either which I didn’t notice when I booked it

Thank you Kevin and Jane for the lovely message we received from you the day you left, "We have had a lovely time, enjoyed the peace, quiet and views" So I was quite surprised to have received this review as when I did contact you while you were there you said "everything was good" The Villa is clearly advertised as “a rustic mountain retreat 2km away from the village up a steep track also advertising The pool is cold as it is not heated” I am sorry that one sunbed was broken which we have now replaced, however there were a further 5 sunbeds all in working order. We pride ourselves on cleanliness and up together within the style of the villa. our cleaners work very hard to keep to our standard, inside as well as outside, The outside is regularly cleaned but being in the campo you will always get ants and bugs, it is part of nature. The Villa is well maintained by a gardener and a pool man, to keep within this standard unfortunately the gardener had to change his day of work within the time you were staying. The Villa is fully equipped but with no personal belongings, these are all items for all to use. The upstairs bedroom has an open staircase, and I agree that you would not have young children using it. We do discuss this with individuals when they are booking with families. We have two bathrooms the showers work well but not both together at the same time. The advert clearly says that there is air conditioning up stairs and that the rest of the rooms have ceiling fans. We appreciate all constructive feedback and always encourage guests to read through the full description before booking. We will continue to improve where we can, while staying true to the rustic, peaceful charm of the campo that so many guests (infact many returning guests) love. Kind Regards, Paquita

Tranquility and nature

The photos online don't do justice to this villa - it is a very lovely property in a really beautiful spot, high on the hillside above Cartama. The views are absolutely spectacular and the wildlife impressive: we saw eagles, quails and goats every day. One of the daily highlights was "goat time" when the goatherd brought his goats down the hillside with a tinkling of goatbells around 1030 every morning! We walked down to eat in Cartama on a couple of occasions - it's about a 15-20 minute walk and a nice way to work off your dinner coming back home up the hill. The pool was perfect - it's a very good size, although the location on the mountainside meant we needed to scoop out vegetation every so often. We found that the veranda was a godsend in the heat - our visit coincided with a heatwave and we spend much of our time eating, relaxing and generally chilling out on the lovely daybed and many comfortable chairs and in the evenings it was great watching the sun set and night fall from there. There are extensive patio-d grounds with sun loungers and tables to allow you to eat outside and in the shade at most times of day and the pool and gardens are very well maintained and really beautiful. Our only niggle would be that the upstairs bedroom was really too hot to sleep in during the heatwave that coincided with our visit, but we could all fit in downstairs so it wasn't a problem for us. There's no air conditioning but plenty of fans provided so we made good use of them! The villa is in a good location for visiting the coast and Malaga. We also visited the nearby lakes, or embalsas, really beautiful and about an hour's drive away at Ardales. Worth it for the swim in brilliant blue water. We also drove to Granada to see the Alhambra - it is a couple of hours away by car and spectacular. One of the nicest things about the villa was that we felt really well looked after - we had a couple of teething problems and the lovely Amelia and Jesus were absolutely delightful, as was Bernie the owner - they couldn't do enough to help us and made us feel really welcome. Thank you!
