About the host
Hosted by Marylyn Harding
We are not native to Derbyshire. We moved up from " down south " 23 years ago. After a hectic life in the motor industry we felt it was time to slow down and enjoy our lives. We love the outdoors and Derbyshire was the perfect location to find peace and quiet with so much to see and do. Walking and cycling the trails, discovering places to visit and things to see. We bought Robertswood then a B&B in need of attention. We had the Victorian style bar fitted, carpets, curtains and lots more beside. We enjoyed the guests company whilst serving breakfasts and evening meals. The bar was a joy behold. After 10 years or so of long days and nights, lots of hard work semi retirement was calling. Self catering became the obvious choice rather than selling up and moving away. We still enjoy being around for our guests and are always available to help out if required. Group photos on the front steps is a favourite, along with advise on the area and what to see and do.
Why they chose this property
Coming up from north London for many weekend get aways to escape we just fell in love with whole area. It is a calm and has a somewhat slower pace of life, but most of all the people are just so friendly, warm and welcoming. Where ever you go either by car, bike or on foot the landscape is stunning and so accessible. You could spent a lifetime here and never get fed up having nothing to do. And there's steam trains a plenty, one even runs in the valley below Robertswood.
What makes this property unique
Robertswood being a former gentleman's residence and guest house makes it very unique property. South facing looking over the Derwent valley, all our rooms are ensuite with amazing views. On the ground floor is a large kitchen, dining room and a very comfortable lounge and bar area. Wide stairs take you up to the large well proportioned bedrooms. Safe off road parking at the front can accommodate up to 12 cars.
